Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Recommended Posts

Will we see some special release games weather they be budget or free ish via a cross upc code promotion.  Say a cross as campaign with 7up for a new cool spot.   Or a McDonald's or Burger King characters based game.  M&Ms. Post/general Mills cereal characters.      Xbox did it with bk and have done crap but did get a decent game out of that line up   so much potential on that front.  Plus who doesn't want a new cool spot?? :)

Btw Tommy Pat and Ian didn't bring me on to intellivision ,I been following since May or June of last year ever since to first talk of a console.....  I do follow so e videos from them but I'm already on board with the amico they couldn't sway me away ;).  The retro stuff hooked me as well as this won't just be retro that will for sure keep me ;)

You bring up a really good point - probably not right away because the Amico needs to build a solid following to attract cross promotion deals. However it is kind of a game changer that the games are so inexpensive and development costs are low - so you could have companies offer free games in a cross promotion. Not sure if that would be beneficial for the brand but sure is an interesting idea. The Amico is such an "anti-console console" there are all sorts of new things that can come out of it's unique positioning, controllers and price model.

Those brands have characters that could turn into franchises.  Imagine a McDonald's  80s characters crossover Game with the Halloween themed cereals as a horror action adventure game that's multiplayer with platforming and puzzle elements. They could give away as a cross promo ad or sell cheaper than other games but with the abity to get a code in cereal box or Happy meal  or Burger purchase.  All sorts of cool potential that promotes the amico to families when also amico in turn promotea them as well..  so much untapped potential with characters we have grown up with for several generations.

Based on what i seen here yesterday, i don't think Pat has even seen your apology video and is ignoring you all together and will only respond to marketing info you release later. I do believe he made fun of my twitter comment of him riding in your Ferrari. And someone made a joke of you picking him up in a van. So i say forget those guys. Pat is a super stubborn person.

If this don't take you directly there fast forward to 14m28s

Pat is one of those guys that think gaming started with the NES and everything that came before is junk...i hate that attitude

Well, is he old enough to have any serious experience or memories with anything before the NES?  If not, it's not surprising he's biased.

I really really really don't want to be defending Pat, but in one of those response videos he did say he grew up on the 7800 and has no idea why people think he's biased against anything pre nes.

Look at what you guys made me do. I feel all dirty now. Yuck

You guys are (still) making this about Pat and Ian, instead of about the system. It's exhausting. This thing needs to do well (or not) on it's own merits. You don't like their opinions? The best way to combat them is to not talk about them.

I don't want to read about passive aggressive nonsense. I don't want to read about Bed, Bath and Beyond and armchair quarterbacking. Talk about the friggin' Amico.

I will mostly agree on the Pat and Ian issue - probably not necessary and I am part of that discussion, so part of the problem.

Totally disagree about Bed Bath and Beyond and marketing ideas and strategy. The Amico is a gaming console but also a product. No matter how great it may be as a piece of hardware if they can't market it or can't finance it or get great games made for it - it is done. One of the most exciting things about the Amico is the team and the business plan. I know that doesn't excite most people but it is as necessary as the actual box itself. Look at the Atari VCS, who is the team, what is the plan, what is the market strategy, where are the games coming from?

Feel free to start any Amico related conversions you like, I am sure people will be happy to chime in.

The Flashback exists for folks to do that now if they'd like (even though a lot of the emulation is crappy).  I didn't have anything to do with that product and although AT Games wanted to do a 2nd version of it... as soon as I became CEO I killed any potential possibility of that happening because we need our messaging to be perfect at launch and don't want to confuse the marketplace.

I bought a Flashback... or I should rather say I asked my sister to pick up one for me at a Bed, Bath and Beyond when she had to go to Ontario (the Flashback wasn't available in Québec). I think AT Games did a very good job with the controllers, but the rest of the system was indeed sometimes questionable (and how they forgot to put Skiing was beyond me). When I learned they planned to release a 2nd version I was certainly interested... until I learned that some the ******* guy who took control of Intellivision decided to stop this. I was pissed!

Of course, now that I know why this guy decided to stop AT Games from making an Intellivision Flashback 2, I don't think he's a ***** anymore. 😉

You know I am happy to point out AT Games (many) failings but they did seem to get the controllers right. I am not sure if that was Intellivision putting their foot down or AT Games stepping up, but the value of the Flashback to me is basically the controllers.

On the Amico side, just like the Intellivision retro scene kinda languishes a bit from lack of availability of those highly customized controllers - when the Amico becomes a retro system, I think those controllers will be much sought after (unless the Amico Mark VI has backwards compatible ones or something). Maybe the cell phone app will save the day with people running retro Android versions and side loading APKs. The retro community always finds a way.

Yeah pat is a big fan of the 7800 and colecovison and Ian’s favorite console is the 5200.

Except for the pin outs. They were wired incorrectly so if you want to use them on real hardware or with USB adapters you need some adapter cables from Nurmix.

True, was more referring to the 'feel' which seems to be pretty close to the original (at least for me). See I was trying to be nice to AT Games and look what you did ;).

And so what if they do prefer post-NES systems? I dare say most people do. The original Intellivision is forty years old. 40!!

Yup...40 years old and still awesome.

Yes you can get packs of the overlays, the flashback console - but those darn controllers are what is most needed. Saw some Dollar General Intellivision Flashbacks years ago sitting on the shelf at like half off and didn't get them - still kicking myself to this day. Quite frankly my initial interest in the Amico was just for a modern version of the controller. Playing OG games just isn't the same without them.

Yeah I picked up a few of those to horde the controllers and sent one set to Nurmix for the dual action mod.

The Atari 7800 is still post NES

When Pat was complaining about the grip on an intellivision controller he was actually explaining holding the colecovision controller where, for two button games, you're forced to have a thumb on one button and finger on the opposite side button.  Holding an intellivision controller where you have two action buttons on the same side is different as you can use either two fingers or one thumb, whichever you prefer, and hold the controller more comfortably.

I find a lot of younger retro video game fans/collectors, mistakenly look to the colecovision to play golden age arcade games.  They really should be looking at MAME emulation instead.

I can't imagine playing Intellivision AD&D, Deadly Discs, Night Stalker, B17 Bomber, Baseball, or Basketball with an Amico touchscreen.  It's too bad there's no more flashbacks.

He's seen it... he clearly follows our every move.  He even references SmashJT's latest video in the Twitch video you just sent (I don't follow him at all so I only hear this crap when others bring it to my attention).  He completely contradicts himself.  A viewer asked if he's seen my response video... he says "No, why would I?".  Then he goes on to reference some of the stuff I said in the video and a bunch of other videos that have come out after that.  It's not that he hasn't seen my video... he just can't really acknowledge it because it shows the truth of how wrong they were for saying I attacked them from the get go and that I can't take criticism.

In the few minutes I could bare to watch that video... I found a few things to be interesting...

1.  He says I have a weird obsession with him and Ian.  Yet from the links that people have sent me, they are the ones that have literally brought me up in almost every single podcast they've done over the past few weeks.

2.  Doing an interview with someone a year before a new console is released is "ridiculous" to him.  That's totally fine... totally his call.  I just personally think that kind of attitude is "ridiculous"... but again... he can do or think or feel however he wants.  Don't care at this point.  I felt I took the high road in my response video.  I feel good about my actions and have no intention on sharing any information with those guys at this point.

3.  He refers to anyone who wears an Amico shirt an "unconscious shill", "having no foresight" and "no ethics".  So that makes folks like SmashJT (who originally didn't like the idea of the console), John Riggs, Metal Jesus Rocks, Kelsey, Thryst and RGT85 all "shills" because they are YouTubers who got and wear a video game t-shirt of something they like.  So to review... if you've seen and played the console and like it... you are an unethical shill with no foresight... compared to someone who has never seen or played the console, refuses to talk to the creator of the console and can't even remember how much the console costs.  Gotcha.

4.  This next one is a bit disturbing in my opinion.  He states... "I miss the days of the Chameleon drama... that was the height of our podcast, the height of our Patreon, the height of our views!"

After hearing that... I kinda get the feeling that maybe he feels he can make money off of bad mouthing me and Intellivision.  Have fun.  In the end... the more he bashes and brags that him & Ian "know the market better than anyone" and "know what consumers want"... when the system is released and its a success... the more it proves how little they actually do know.

All good.  I'd prefer not to talk about them anymore... so many cool and positive things to talk about instead.  :)

Absolutely!  We are working on a few different ideas right now.  One was to bring back the old Kool-Aid promotion!  (except with a better game!)  :)

If he really said that... then it's sad how little he actually knows about the retro game industry considering the 7800 was released a year after the NES in the U.S. and 3 years after the Famicom in Japan.  :)
