Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Recommended Posts

Yes its a really great game and it plays a with this typical R-Type feeling :). I have the Switch version and it plays fantastic in Handheld Mode also. I played R-Type 1-3 so many times complete till the end and still love these games. Rigid Force Redux a very good game without copying the gameplay from R-Type. Great that you can move the Drone around the ship. Thats something completly new in this genre.

Sounds like a perfect game to really shine on Amico!

I had Hans in Germany already send an e-mail and I guess he's really good friends with the CEO of the company that published it!  So hopefully a good chance we'll be seeing this on Amico.

This doesn't let you off the hook for designing an actual R-Type game. 😙

That was mesmerizing!

See what we could do with a Theme Park sim game and a touch screen/disc controller?

Cue my begging... or I'll play a banjo! 😈

Wouldn't That Be Something?

I love it! "Shooting rabbits with an elephant gun!"

It looks like the tank is about to blow itself...

... That was my inside voice, right?😇

We actually have something similar in the works... except with clowns and other circus folk.

:)

The bearded lady? The 3 armed man? Full body tattoo guy? World's fattest woman?

I'm not sure you can get away with m**get tossing.

Hi all, brand new to this forum. In my constant quest for more intellivision Amico news a very knowledgeable Italian directed me here to learn more. He actually has alot of knowledge about the Amico that regular people wouldn't have but he won't reveal secrets to me. :(

A bit about myself , I'm a very casual gamer. I owned an intellivision II back in the early 80s and loved the crap out of it. Since then I've "gamed" very sparingly over the years although I do own an Xbox One currently (my kids play it waaaaaaay more than I do)

I'm so looking forward to the Amico because of everything Tommy has been saying about it. Family friendly, games for all skills levels, couch co-op and bringing people together.

My actual name is Michael but I go by Zee on forums due to my last name and an old high school teacher that gave me the nickname "Mr. Zee". I'm from Canada and it should be Zed but let's be real here, Zee sounds better :)

Looking forward to the launch!

Welcome. We're all a friendly bunch here... except me.

Thanks. I find it weird that I'm talking intellivision on an "Atari" forum though lol. When I was a kid I used to look down on my cousin who owned an Atari 2600 cause I had better graphics. The original console wars/fanboi fights lol

Exactly! And Emerson named their Arcadia 2001 game Tanks-A-Lot instead.

Even Shark! Shark!'s copycat PC game 20 years later "Feeding Frenzy" was a better name.

I personally like, and also liked back in the days, the simple straight Mattel Intellivision game title names. Trying to be funny with the names can become ridiculous really fast and also there are a lot of not native english speakers out there that can eventually not easily understand this.

Through a programme on the Austrian cultural radio Ö1, I came up with an interesting idea.

The topic of the program was:

"What will the world look like after the Covid-19 crisis and how will we live? The doctor and psychotherapist Martina Leibovici-Mühlberger is looking for possible answers."

One aspect of this programme was that through social (physical) distancing we could get in touch with our relatives, friends, work colleagues via video telephony, but that of course for humans this is not the same as direct contact. People need direct contact with others.

Of course the Corona situation is a setback for the development of the Amico. But it could well be that especially after the hardships this crisis brings with it, the longing to play together at the same place is especially strong. So the Amico, which fulfils exactly these needs, could be the ideal game console for the time after the Corona deprivations.

Provided of course that the Amico is known and easily available at that time.

Okay, maybe I'll let everybody in on one secret, since the banjo stereotype is an outdated reference to a 50 year old movie (before Jon Voight had that convertible & sold it to George Costanza, and before Ronny Cox lost his eyeballs in Total Recall)... We usually listen to dance music nowadays. 😅

Yeah, what an outdated stereotype! As a certified hillbilly sh*t kicker I can confirm it is EDM all the way today baby!

That’s the right attitude back then (said by a huge Canadian Colecovision fan who loved to show off his colecovision to his Intellivision roommate :) )

Since Tommy is pretty limited in what he can say about Fig.co/Republic due to SEC regulations on corporate officers and investments, I thought I would give an quick update. Bottom line is it is going amazing well considering unemployment is at record highs, the S&P 500 hasn't recovered from it's Feburary drop off and the only thing certain right now is uncertainty:

BORING STUFF IF YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT Fig.co/Replubic DO: For anyone not familiar with IE is doing on Fig/Republic, they are 1) offering pre-orders with a $100 refundable deposit - similar the VIP pre-order offering - so I won't be talking about that anymore and 2) they are offering an investment opportunity for small to medium sized investors. Unlike your typical crowd funding site where you pre buy some product, if you invest in IE's Fig.co offering you will NOT get an Amico even if you put in $1,000,000. You are investing, like buying a new stock offering on Wall Street. The difference is that companies like IE are not publicly traded so you can't call up your broker and just buy some IE stock. Traditionally investment in privately traded companies are presented in 'rounds' to well heeled investors. For example, I think the *minimum* for IE's offering was $250,000. What firms like Republic do is bundle smaller investments amounts (say down to $500 minimum) into these larger investment blocks typically found in a 'round'. People investing still have to answer financial questions to qualify themselves and there is a cap you can invest based on your income/assets. Again, nothing like a traditional crowdfunding site at all. This is a heavily regulated financial service business with red tape & requirements.

It is probably a good time to mention this isn't investment advice, all investments involve risk and you should never take investment advice from some yahoo on the Internet - do your own research and make your own investment decisions.

LESS BORING STUFF: Fig investments have been steadily growing and are now at $3.84 million (this is the investment funds only, the $5 million number includes console pre-orders, and once again, I am not including). That is up $100,000 just from Friday. While that is probably only 10 to 15% of Intellivision's total funding (my guestimate, *not* official numbers) that is still a substantial amount of additional investment and could help drive things like additional staff hiring, the new support center in Utah, maybe a few additional games and/or IP licenses, and so on. All good news if you are excited for more games, getting Grover instead of @Blarneo as the Math Fun mascot, more console features/accessories and having a company with good support for the console going forward.

Really?

It doesn't have to be humorous, just clever and unique.

If Mattel made a clone of Atari's 'Dodge 'Em', they would call it "Alleyway of cars scooping up raised pavement markers while avoiding oncoming traffic".

Well I'm going to fire up my Service Games creation of the world's creation first book of the Holy Bible; miniaturized edition, to play unrecognizable in nature Japanese blue character with spikes on his head and wears sneakers.

R-Type is still one of the most known Shoot em Up for all gamers so I think as Tommy and Intellivision still have the license they will bring an R-Type on Amico system even a new R-Type Game will arrive next year on Switch, PS4 and Steam. So lets hope Intellivision will make a R-Type Delta (PS1) to 2D Port. Even the developer of Rigid Force Redux I think is a perfect programmer for an new R-Type or a Port of an older one :). Another series along with R-Type I would love on see on the amico is the Thunderforce series from Sega. M2 made awesome ports of the third and fourth on the switch but a new one would be so awesome cause Sega`s last try was with thunderforce 6 was not a very good game.

EPN likes like me the Thunderforce AC a bit better then Lightning Force but both are so awesome games :)

Yeah, I know. HE's assured me it'll be fantastic when they get to it, but they haven't started it yet.

I've been harping on this game for 2 years... and also secretly disappointed they chose the much less fun and almost boring Moon Patrol as a launch title instead.

Yeah! That's right @OEB_Pete, I said it! 😜

R-Type Final 2 (awful name) will also be on Xbox One, which will be the version I'll buy.

I think Intellivision will make their own custom R-Type so that's good to look forward to also.

Sega now owns Technosoft, so a new Thunder Force would be up to them.
