Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Definitely not mediocre.  More like... the most important thing (for the particular audience that will be watching tomorrow).

Looking forward to this, 2020 sucks, but the 1980s is saving my sanity, between intellivision making its big comeback and last week the go-gos (the entire 80s lineup)are back with their first new song in decades , the 80s are saving me baby.

CNET is streaming it live and one of the biggest newspapers in the U.S. will be doing something with us as well.

Thanks Tommy for taking the time to answer all of our questions. No worries from me a day is only a day. And you want to get it right.  Look forward to it tomorrow.  Carving out a hour and 15 lol for this. Party on Mr Tallarico 🤘

That can be done by video and save the dev effort to make the mobile version of the game.

We are an Android based system so it's very easy for us to convert.  We actually do it in-house so we don't need to bother the developer.

Only a small handful of games we can do this for because most games need a controller with a screen and a TV (Including parts of Moon Patrol!).

But we feel it's a nice bonus.  Especially when it's free to everyone and builds excitement for the game.  Lots of folks really enjoyed it.

Noticed two things about the new Moon Patrol update ...

1. Major graphics update - cool.

2. I suck at Moon Patrol

It's definitely harder with the phone controls.  Way better and easier with the Amico controllers!  And we have special "levels" that can only be done on the Amico controller.  Not in the demo.

See, for me I found the 1st Moon Patrol demo to be dull.  I didn't much like the visuals.  It definitely decreased my interest in this particular title (to be fair, I don't really like the OG Moon Patrol much either). The most recent video clip for Moon Patrol showed a lot more and brought my interest back up a bit.  It'll be interesting to see where today's demo shifts my interests.

So, what did you think?

I'm having a blast with the new demo.  But I keep dying, lol.  I wanna beat the level if possible.  It's hard playing on a phone.  This demo is addicting however.  It's all about the fun.  I was using the button option, maybe the tilt option is easier.

Glad you're enjoying it!!

Tommy,

Will the full game of Moon Patrol have an option where you control the vehicle at all times?  In the demo the vehicle keeps moving even if you don't slow down or speed up.  It plays like an on rail shooter.  Did the original play the same?  Hopefully we can move the vehicle on our own in the full game.  It might make it easier to play.

Like the original it is a forced scroll (that you can control the speed of).

Not sure anyone has mentioned this yet about Tommy's quick little video but I did like that he said they would be showing 20 games, 10 or so that we hadn't seen yet. That's great to hear. Let the speculation begin as to what they are.

Yeah... I can tell you that the focus of the video is on PEOPLE and REAL GAMEPLAY.   Not cinematics or expensive logo renders.  Not corporate speak or bullet points.  Real people and developers from around the world talking about real things and why they are so happy and excited to be working on the system.  You've all heard me drone on and on and on and on and on about Amico for about 2 years.  "Wouldn't It Be Something" if a lot of people who have been working and playing on the machine for over a year be nice to hear from.  And how about REAL gameplay running from the REAL machine.  No cut scenes, no fake promises, no flashy logos.

One of the things you'll notice will be the quality and style upgrades on the graphics that you've known for the past year.  Look at the original small clip of Moon Patrol we showed last year and look at the demo today (as an example).  The same will be said about ALL the games we've shown in the past (a few of which you'll see tomorrow with their "upgrades".  You'll definitely be seeing a few "prototypes" stages as well for some of the new stuff.  But again... the theme of this is to show real people (who work at Intellivision or who are developers for Intellivision) showing off their passion and their games and why they love it.

Lots of other super cool stuff in there (and yes... I talk about the launch towards the top of the show).

Will be interesting to get your feedback on the event once it takes place.  We have SO MUCH information still yet to come... and we do need to save a lot of it... but if you're looking for cool new games, better graphics, understanding the inside passion for the product... then you will all be pleasantly satisfied I believe.

Yes. That's Moon Patrol. Faster, same speed, slower, jump, and fire. Good Ol' Moon Patrol!

I really like the Amico Moon Patrol so far. The worst part is the annoying mobile controls, and that problem will be solved with the Amico controllers.

Exactly!!   :)

Moon Patrol runs awesome on my phone! 60 FPS at all times! Is the Amico gonna have this kind of performance for the full game? That would be awesome :lust:

Absolutely!!  We'll be showing a LOT more of the game tomorrow and it's on running off Amico.

I wonder if we'll get T-Shirts with the modern game designs?  Perhaps show a screenshot of the new Night Stalker on a shirt.  Like showing the maze and everything.  That would be awesome.

Don't forget Puffy!

:)

Question is... WILL he make an appearance during the event tomorrow?

I can't believe no one put him on the Amico Event Bingo card!!!

:D

I agree with this. I would also love to see a polo style shirt with the running man logo instead of the "Polo" or "Izod" logo.

- oh and a non weathered running man hat; like the pink one, but in black, navy blue or red.

We added those non-weathered hats last month.

We have Pink, Black & White:

Certain Canadians that are on an Intellivision focused podcast and have bought many Amicos seems like an addition you might want to make to that list. I have already asked Paul to hand build Amicos for Rick and I but with the qualifier that he must do so while wearing the Amico furry mascot suit. Thanks in advance.

You're definitely someone at the top of that list!  I can guarantee you that!

The Intellivision YouTube channel shows the Amico event for 12:45pm ET on 8/5.  I thought it was 1pm.  That's cool, 15 minutes early is great.

It will be changed to 1pm eastern.

You've taken a lot of heat today from the usual knuckle heads on YouTube but I have faith in you Tommy. I know the wait will be worth it and I've made sure I have no meetings tomorrow at 1.

Bring it paesano!! Like the Leafs brought it to the Jackets today!!

Definitely going to be showing and announcing some cool stuff.

Knuckle heads!  Hahaha!  Haven't heard that one in a long time.

5 people with a total of 50 followers and the same 5 people commenting on every video claiming that there is more than 5 people.  10 when they use their fake accounts.

Then of course there is the "guy" who keeps promising never to speak about Amico ever again and then constantly does.  He even sent me a PM to make a truce/deal with me... which I did, but within a week he lied.

Looks like we own their spare time.

Hope they at least checked out the Moon Patrol demo today.

🌑👾🚀

They clearly need a little more positivity in their lives.

One things for sure... they certainly love feeding my so-called narcissism.

🥰

Not so much heat. Six sad lonely people making videos for each other (and I mean only each other) and lots of Dorkalicious subscribers likely wondering why he's back whining about Intellivision Entertainment after saying he was done. Used to be three lonely people, but dragged in three more banees from AA to pretend to be making videos.

Nailed it!

(they love when I say that).

I like the visuals a lot more, for sure.  I didn't get far enough to see some of the more hectic gameplay from the last video (which might not even be in level 1).  I'll try again tomorrow.

Amico is the system that brings enjoyment to everyone; even the Haters

HAHAHAHHA!!!   So true!

They enjoy bashing me daily and likewise... I have a little fun at their expense as well sometimes.

But yes... because of me and Amico... we are bringing them enjoyment.

Woo-hoo!!!

😍

Great news but will there be more than just arcade style games and more fully fleshed games like a 3D mario type game or a Sonic or Castlevania type game? Cheers

Not really any free roaming 3D games.  We'll let the more powerful and established systems handle that.  Lots out there already.

We're focusing more on simple to learn mechanics, fun with others (no matter what your skill level).  But we definitely have some cool 2D platformers... might even be showing 1 or 2 of them for the first time ever... tomorrow!

...stand by...

well, I preordered the purple one, looking forward to supporting a video game console made by a video game company that actually looks like a console instead of a dull block intended to "fit in" with an entertainment system

Thank you for your support!

Can't wait for you to check out the event tomorrow.

I came home from work hoping to catch up on the official event here, but discovered it's delayed until tomorrow. And unfortunately I have a 3 hour meeting when the revised event goes live. Hopefully this thread is active during it so I can frantically refresh my phone during said meeting....err....multitask and answer emails 😏

Amico club app is going to have to wait...my phone is on its last legs and my new one doesn't come for 2 weeks. The videos shared of the Moon Patrol demo look great though.

Sorry for the inconvenience we caused.  :(

The good news is that you'll be able to rewatch the event as soon as it's over and gets posted on YouTube.

So you may not want to read the spoilers beforehand!   :)

Hope they are able to check out the event tomorrow.

Strange that they have so many subscribers but only about 50 views on every video.

I have a two part question for Tommy:
Do you think the overall makeup of Amico YouTubers is somewhat reflective of the people who will buy the Amico?
...and if so...
Do you plan on aggressively target marketing to Canadians named Pete?

(I'm not being serious, however 1/3 of this panel below consists of Canadians named Pete)

I make Canadian Pete's in my basement.

:D
