Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

speaking of that same store I was in it's funny there was an older lady probably in her 70s she was buying a PlayStation 4 she was asking the employee if they had any puzzle games like the witness. the employee also being an older woman didn't know and she was helping her try to find one. she suggested how about the Nintendo DS? and the lady was like no I want to be able to play on the TV screen. and then I stepped in and I said yeah it looks like there's mostly just war games and then I asked do you have the internet? she said yes and I told her how she can probably download some cheaper puzzle games. I think the Amico would have been good for her because she had no problem with downloading games from the internet but the in store selection was lacking. I don't know if she would pay $250 but she was willing to spend $200 just for some puzzle games on her big screen.

Thanks for sharing.  Perfect example of the type of folks who probably purchased a Wii back in the day and now their only TV option would be looking at a used PS4 and going through 3,000 games (not an exaggeration... look it up!) in hopes of finding a few games she likes and understand (for which the salesperson couldn't even think of).

The situation you described has been happening all over the world to hundreds of millions of people for the past 7 - 8 years.  We are looking to fill that gap... and more!

I honestly think that's a drama. The only reason I bought a Game Boy and a PS1 in the 90s was because I didn't have the Internet to download thousands of games. I hope no teenagers are suffering to buy a machine these days like I did (I saved 6 months for the PS1!).

It builds character and they appreciate it more!

:)

It has probably been asked and answered already, but bear with me. Will we be able to preorder extra controllers prior to release of the console?  What color will the extra controllers be?  And have you given any thought to an additional 4 controller charging stand?
Thanks for answering my questions, Tommy.  At my age the only ones who show interest in obtaining my business are funeral homes😬

Yes.  And ALL colors will be available!  So if you wanted to get the Graphite Black Amico and buy extra GTO Red controllers... you could.

Because you can charge the controllers via the USB-C port, we put the charging station on hold for now.  Gotta get the console and everything else perfect for launch.  It's on our short list of add-ons.  Maybe by Christmas 2021.

The drawings we have are super cool.  Basically looks like a little tiny Amico (including the LED's!).

Another question that has already been asked but I can't find the answer, is there going to be a bubble shooting game on Amico? Something like Bust-a-Move or Snood? Seems like they'd be a perfect fit for the controller.

It's on our to-do list for the second wave of games.  Should be ready by next Christmas.

I would rather say that people who had or have a wii would be very attracted to the Amico system,

Our massive amounts of data, research and focus group testing tell us the same thing.

Folks who had only ever bought a Wii console are all very excited about purchasing an Amico 15 years later.  They had zero interest in getting a Switch.

Once the TV commercials begin for Amico, maybe J. Allard can be in a couple of them.

J prefers to be behind the scenes.  He's told me many times that he has no interest in being in the spotlight.

Everyone has so much respect for J.  Super smart & talented guy.  Such amazing insights and experience.

@RetroAdvisoryBoard's post is so informative that I'm pretty sure it's even offensive for some people.

All of his posts and thoughts are like that!  Such an incredible and smart guy who really thinks through everything before he says it.

I always get excited whenever I see him post something as I know it's going to be super informative and well thought out.

I don't think so.

That would also be a little tough for me considering I'm a big supporter of animal rights.

I understand that games like Duck Hunt are all in good fun.  So there may be something out there that could fit.  Just nothing on the plate right now.

Shooting extremely huge spiders in Night Stalker or rats/snakes in Cloudy Mountain is one thing... it's "fantasy".

Hunting for ducks or deer is something different (for me anyway).  I understand my views on this subject are not the norm.  It's just a personal thing for me.  A "hunting" game would be tough for me.

Robots, dude!  A fantasy planet with exaggerated, cartoony robot critters hunted by goofy redneck robot bumkin hunters.  😄

If you haven't already, boot up the Playstation VR and check out "Wanted" in the Playroom to see (what I believe) is a fantastic example of how a game designer can mold what would normally be violent activity into a cute, carefree romp.   "Wanted" turns a classic western saloon gunfight into a family friendly game my entire family absolutely loves (parents 30s - 40s, kids 6 - 14).  Seems like that type of transformation could be a universally pleasant way to keep the fun factor front and center without compromising any moral/ethical beliefs.

My wife Susan won. Super excited and we've been battling at Moon Patrol since I got her to download it about a month ago. She’s been trying to get the high score to help win the prize for me because she knows that I’m such a big supporter (but, she gets the bragging rights 😁).  Her winning just shows that Amico games are truly for everyone as shes not typically one to play video games, but quickly got hooked on Moon Patrol.

SO GREAT!!!  I knew it was you (Kevin & Britnee showed me your e-mail) but I wasn't sure you wanted folks to know so I kept silent.

:)

I absolutely LOVE that a casual/non-gaming woman WON the Moon Patrol contest!  How cool is that!?!?!   And like you said... just goes to show how we could potentially change the landscape of what a "gamer" is in the living room (similar to what the Wii accomplished 15 years ago).

I believe that is one of the big reasons why a certain handful of obsessed folks hate us so much.  You can see the disdain in their words and thoughts when it comes to mobile or flash games.  Typical elitist snob attitudes.

In their biased minds mobile is BAD and LAME, Flash is BAD and LAME.  How DARE anyone try to come along and put that type of content on a television in the living room where folks of all ages and skill levels can play and have a good time.   HOW DARE WE!!!!!!!!!!

:D

They would much prefer that Amico is a failure and that casuals & non-gamers NOT take part in their hobby.

Really wacko thinking... but it really just shows the kind of mentality these folks share.  Really sad, bothered and lonely people whose side hobby it is to try and get as many people to dislike us as possible.  Even going as far as constantly lying and spreading misinformation (because literally every "theory" they have is so easily dismissed making them look even more foolish).  This one wack-job follows me all over the internet and leaves replies on every single post I make (where he isn't already banned) and then will leave negative comments on anyone who posts positively about us.  He consistently threatens me by saying he's never going to go away and that I'll never be rid of him.  Poor little guy has a bad case of Tommy Derangement Syndrome and doesn't realize that he's stuck in my marketing web of awesome.  These folks can't stop thinking about us and giving us attention.

GOTCHA!!

🤣

Thanks!  When all this separation stuff ends, we’ll have to do dinner and have an Amico Party.  We’ll get her interested; after all, IE’s done all the hard work.  Think We’re about 40 minutes south of you.

Lets do it at my house!  I'm about an hour or so south of you guys!

This is a quiet week with not too many news (that can be discussed in this forum), so I figured I'd open a controversial poll/thread which has potential: Atari 2600 Vs Intellivision: Which one was better?

I voted.

Anyone want to guess which one I picked??

:D

Well that's okay.  I understand.  I just thought it would be neat seeing him in a commercial talking about Amico.

Atari Master likes Atari 2600, lol.  But Intellivision Master likes Intellivision.

Your message reminds me of @1001lives/@LordRayken and his love/hate relationship with the Amico debating with himself. 👉👈 Good times!

By the way, he has been busy this summer creating a 30 minute video which could be described as a love letter to the Virtua Boy.

I hope it was to get rid of the 25% tariffs ;)  Though I will miss all that manufacturing it brought us.  :rolling:

Tommy,  don't take focus off the Amico, but you can buy Friendly's for a SONG right now.  So Sad.  Just saying...

I think Intellivision Collector mentioned something about a coin for Amico.  What about a ring?  It would be cool to have a gold ring with Running Man on it.  Not real gold of course.  But perhaps the ring could be an added bonus for the FE.

Another suggestion for the IE shop.  An Amico calendar.  Each month can show a game image and also give a fun fact about that game.  Puffy has to have his very own calendar, lol.  Each month he is in a different location and wearing something different.  For example, in the summer, Puffy is at the beach wearing a hat & sunglasses.  In the winter he's is his log cabin and has on a sweater.  Lol.

So @Tommy Tallarico i thought of something while watching lateat @OEB_Pete videos.  Recent ask tommy was about pre ordering games.  You were like maybe we should do something special.   And you said maybe do 24 hrs acess before  release day.

I thought of  something to tie into a previous suggestion from one of the oeb podcasts.   I think i started it in the comnents lol and you mentioned possibility.   A rewards program.  So what if  on digital and physical pre orders you got maybe a few bonus rewards points .

To be honest many preorders i do tend to just be to pre download a game since im probably at work. But if a reward program comes to be.... bonus pre order points would totally encourage more people to pre order.

Just a neat idea to toss around  that adds to your value proposition
