Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Recommended Posts

Hey, Tommy, I was just wondering:  Will the Amico be available on Amazon US, and if so, will it ship to Israel?  For some reason, Amazon UK almost never ships here.

I know that Tommy has been trying to acquire the rights to Activision’s Pitfall.  Instead of Pitfall, what about George of the Jungle?  You have not only George, but Shepp (his trusty elephant who thinks he’s a dog), Ape (who speaks like an Oxford professor), Fella and Ursula (Wives?), Tooky Tooky bird and an evil hunter digging pits to try to capture George. Boa constrictors hang from trees like vines.  With this cast of characters you could easily rival Pitfall Harry.  And if the game is successful, you could do a companion game with Dudley DoRight (wouldn’t that make OEB Pete happy?).  You know, with a handlebar mustache and top hat and cape evil Pete might make a good Snidley Whiplash stand in (hmm).

Here's an interesting overview of @Intellivision Master's stats since he joined Atari Age:

- 2016: 4 messages across different Atari Flashback topics.

- 2017: 0 messages

- 2018: 0 messages

- 2019: 21 messages across different Atari Flashback and Atari homebrews topics.

- 2020: 1,464 messages, all of them in the Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A topic.

It kind of reminds me of Blancmange's cover of the ABBA song The Day Before You Came:

On a slightly more serious note 😉, maybe an updated version of Jill of the Jungle would be good on the Amico.

I have LOTS to catch up on here!  Will make some time early tomorrow morning to answer all the great questions.

In the meantime...

Wishing everyone a safe, fun and HAPPY HALLOWEEN from your friends at Intellivision!

If I may add a small correction.  I looked back at my posts from last year.  There were 22.  So, that makes it 1,463 messages in the Amico Q&A. 🙂

@Tommy Tallarico, will Moon Patrol on Amico transfer turns at the end of each level to prevent one player from making a run across several levels, or only end someones turn when their buggy is destroyed?

Also, the app on IOS has variability in the number of saucers available on each run. Will the version on Amico retain the variability or will it be more a set number of saucers?

Have you fellas been talking with The Tetris Company lately? Seems like an obvious choice for a casual-centered system!

Pretty sure this one has been confirmed, and believe it will be at least 4 player

There's From Below, a nes homebrew, kraken meets tetris game, I think would be good on Amico.

It would need some changes though, such as being able to push down the tentacles with the weight of the blocks. I would also have the kraken spin your blocks so you can't control them easily as they're coming down.

You could add a few things and have fun with it, such as maybe having the kraken spit ink onto the screen so you can't see all your blocks.

Going to go backwards with answering questions today in case others have answered previous questions already for me.

Our VP of Biz Dev is Phil Adam.  He's the guy who did the deal to get Tetris out of Russia with Alexey Pajinov!

If you watch most Tetris documentaries... you'll see Phil.  I'm also good friends with Alexey & Henk (the person who Phil showed it to and made BILLIONS!).

Henk's daughter is running the Tetris company now and we have a lot of dear friends there.  They even came to my Video Games Live show when I played 2 nights in Hawaii (which is where they all live and work).  Henk's brother came on stage and we did a Tetris give-a-way.  We have more than a few close ties.   I'll leave it at that.

Anyone know what Alexey's favorite game of all time is?

Lode Runner!!

Imagine Tetris creator Alexey doing some new level designs for Lode Runner?

Wouldn't That Be Something?

:D

Here is me, Henk & Alexey backstage at one of my Video Games Live shows.  I believe this was during a big show we had at E3.

You can't play it back and forth like that.

The 2 mulitplayer modes are...

1.  Co-op.  Up to 4 people can control a part of the vehicle (jump, shoot up, shoot forward, vehicle speed) or any combination of.
2.  Versus.  Everyone takes turns trying to get as far as possible while everyone else is trying to stop you (as the enemy ships).

Saucers are all the same on the app.  They just look random because of the their patterns and the way we are triggering them.

A souped up version the rumors say?   Even more out of the realm of who we'll be attracting.

We'll get Pitfall eventually!  And we'll get David Crane to do it!

Yes.  It will be on Amazon U.S.  Not sure about shipping to Israel.  I'll need to ask our sales folks about that.  We'll be all over Europe as well though (including online), so if UK doesn't ship... maybe countries in Europe do?

Tommy, at one point you mentioned releasing 1 game every 2 weeks (so approximately 26/year).  Of those, how many can we look forward to being reimagined games?  Having loved the old Intellivision games, I’m hoping to see some of those reimagined titles for 2021, even if the games aren’t quite fully developed yet.  I’m not necessarily talking launch tittles, but going beyond that.

Initially about 20% - 25% of the library.  We need to see what people are most interested in and buying... and we can adjust accordingly.  So if there is more retro interest initially.... we can slide and adjust for Christmas.  If more board/card/puzzle/dice/thinking games are the majority... we can adjust for Christmas.  If kids/educational is hot... we can adjust.  If Spots/Recreation....   you get my drift.

:)

That's the really cool think about our eco-system and the way we've set it all up.  Because it doesn't take years to make a game... we can see what folks at any given time are liking... and do more of that within 6 - 9 months!

And then change it after that as well.

Certainly not in 2020.  Probably not 2021 either... but 2022?  Possibilities for sure!
