Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Recommended Posts

@Intellivision Master all kidding aside - if you could just get one Amico secret revealed, what would it be? There are several outstanding that I can think of:

The mysterious overlays mentioned for the phone controllers (and maybe regular controllers)

Physical media format(s) (this is probably several secrets because it sounds like there will be at least two forms physical media will take)

Amico box/packaging

The final pack-in game (or is it the final one?)

Final retailer announcements

Amico User Interface

Amico mascot

Am I forgetting any?

I seen it happen before but I managed to catch it this time - somebody tried bot bombing Pete's Countdown to the Intellivision Amico video. Fortunately just a little while later YouTube bitch slapped them out of existence. Just show the level of the 'quality individuals' who are trying to make a handful of people look like many.

Im glad this had gotten resolved.  Its pathetic how people will go to these lengths to paint a picture so people unknowing and uneducated on the subject to get people to think their way.

Its this type of approach that my grandfather took a bullet in ww2 to help end. Sad that its come back.

People often think im as radical in dealing with them but its different because I dont hide behind a fake persona and I use truth.

Sure we shouldnt give them any attention but then we also only let them have the voice.

The truth is, everyone is going to hurt you. You just got to find the ones worth suffering for.

I would choose all of the above.  Lol.  But seriously, if I had to choose one.  It would be the reveal of the final pack in game.

For me it would be learning more about the overlay for the phone/controllers. There maybe more than just some textured pads for a phone, I wonder if we will get customizable skins? If not at launch, I would love to see skin packs for the console & controller so different themes or your favorite sports teams. @CurlyQ amazing concepts can't all be custom production runs BUT controller/console skins would require a lot less commitment on Intellivision's part to produce. If Intellivision doesn't do it I bet some enterprising Etsy people will.

Something else that Tommy could reveal as an exclusive.  Is that he got the Tron or Star Wars license.  Perhaps he could reveal a new partnership or a brand new IP.

That is a good one, I wouldn't doubt there is at least one more IP to be announced. I think Tron/Star Wars/anything Disney is probably year 2 or 3 (just because, you know, Di$ney). Can always keep our fingers crossed however.

Tommy Tallarico (not a direct quote but close enough): "Hey, if you want a Canadian skinned Amico just throw a Canadian Flag sticker on it, and BAM! you've got a Canadian skinned Amico!"

Go to the dollar store and buy a buttload of stickers, rinse and repeat for whatever you want your Amico to look like or represent.

Maybe it's all just as simple as that :lolblue:

OR, perhaps Amico's R&D/Focus Groups could give you a better answer.

Lots of cool old board games being mentioned, so I thought I'd tease the game I have been working on this year which just so happens to be... a brand new retro style family board game. Its coming along incredibly well and as promised I will be sending Tommy an exclusive sneak peek,  likely some time next month, and who knows, if he likes it then we can discuss possibly keeping it exclusive to the amico.

For me,its physical media format first, then FE and retail box packaging for the Amico second.

To know both of those would be fantastic!😀👍

If you've ever wondered what it might be like if Tommy got drunk or took some magic mushrooms.....

Apparently Tommy has never taken a sip of alcohol or smoked a cigarette, which I find quite admirable.

While some of us are spending 12 hours in bed recovering from hangovers Tommy is up at the crack of dawn accomplishing things, receiving Guinness Book of World Records and getting shit done (he's a super sleeper).

Congratulations on your amicable Roblox settlement. ;-)

It has been quite a while since it was talked about but Tommy said there were a handful of cancellation but they have a standing list of people on the waitlist (which I suspect is just a sheet of paper with CMart printed over and over again ;)).

That is surprisingly accurate

The overlays/skins for the controllers are already revealed, i have seen all of the ”packs” (sports, animals, etc) that will be on launch, including the button/discs sets for the smartphones, is that still a secret?🤭

I've been playing a lot of my older game consoles recently, and something just feels... off.

In nearly every interview, Tommy usually makes the point that when you think about your best gaming experiences in your life, those were ones you shared with other people. The best experiences were when you played next to your friends. And that is exactly what is getting me about my older consoles. Golden Axe is one of my "comfort food" games, but playing it without your buddy next to you just makes it all feel flat. Even games that aren't so great (Altered Beast) are a lot of fun when playing together. Tommy is right. All the best experiences I've had with games were with other people. Modern games try so hard to replace that feeling by making you think you're getting that same experience, but the flashy graphics and long, drawn-out stories just don't make a good substitute. It's like going from eating healthy, organic food to overly processed food stuff with chemicals. It kinda seems the same at first, but the body can tell the difference.

On another note, I'm noticing that with the launch of the new Xbox, a lot of people are complaining about things Amico wants to fix. Things like "remember when you could take the console out of the box, plug it in, and it just worked?" or "remember when consoles would come with a game?" The funny thing is, something tells me that these same people would probably shrug off Amico even though it fixes the problems they are having.

I completely agree. I grew up with the original Intellivision as my first console and my gaming roots are all really social. I can have fun playing a single player game alone but nothing beats playing with friends and family. Even turn based games, like Burgertime or many arcade titles, is much more fun playing with others. My friends and I would definitely try to beat one another in games like this, and go for high scores for bragging rights, but we would also try to help one another on each other’s turns. There’s no such thing as bragging rights versus myself. Going for my high score is all well and good, but so much more fun when a bunch of friends/family are going for that high score also.

Hans is slumming it at the Monaco Yacht Club for his Pocket Gamer Connect Digital presentation. Not a bad place to get a temporary office!
