Independent Amico Discussion Thread

With televisions today, they expect you to connect your headphones to the television's audio output through bluetooth.  You can probably get blutooth adapters for 3.5mm headsets.  Newer consoles have headset connectors, headphones and mic for online play.  If in the future they add online play for Amico a headset will likely connect through bluetooth or usb.

You just reminded my that my monitor has a headphone jack on it. I don't know why, but I always forget about it. I don't have a modern TV, though, so I don't know much about them.

Having a jack in the controller wouldn't be great for any game that uses motion. Cords would possibly get in the way. 😟

PS4 has motion controls and a headphone jack. I can't name any games use it, though, and I am not sure if there are any.

Wii U definitely has motion control games that make use of the gamepad, and that has a headphone jack.

Not saying they won't get in the way, but it's been done before.

You don't flail the Wii U gamepad around like you would for some wiimote or amicomote games. For instance, how would you use the headset if you were playing a Wii U game that used a wiimote instead of the gamepad? However, some people don't see themselves flailing any controller, at least for games they'd use with a headset.

Yeah you nailed what I was thinking. Simple tilt type controls not a problem. More motion for a game like bowling or cornhole there would be more of a problem.

Fatal Frame/Project Zero. Part of the reason that I never fully enjoyed this game, actually...

I think you can plug your headphones into the gamepad and then use the Wii controller. It's been a LONG time since I've used the Wii U though, so I may be wrong.

I can see flailing the gamepad around being less than ideal.

I suppose if you are careful or strap the gamepad to your body so the cord doesn't get yanked or tripped on.

So for a heavy motion game you would need to hold both to maintain your headsets? 🤔

I don't see a huge point in headsets anyways for this. Online isn't even a thing yet for it, and having them on in a party game would be kind of isolating.

Yeah, you have to do 180 degree turns and stuff to defend yourself from ghosts while holding the huge-ass gamepad, and you literally have to use it since no other controller is supported. Super awkward!

No, just set the gamepad down next to you on the floor or on its little stand thing. I'm just thinking of this from a practical perspective since I prefer headphones for better sound quality and because my walls are so thin that I can literally hear the people that live next door talking at a regular volume through the wall. In fact, they are talking right now. I don't really like playing games at night because of this without headphones.

In this scenario, I would expect someone to be unconsciously moving around their non-dominant arm while not really paying attention to it, which might be an issue .

So, with the Amico, you would plug the headphones into the console while flailing around the controller?

They are going to be really confused when they start hearing you play cornhole inside the apartment. 😁

Yep! My headphone cable is also 2.5 meters long and I also added an additional 1 meter extension so the weight of the 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch adaptor doesn't break any more headphone jacks. I won't have any problems with short cables for sure.

I'm sure they are already confused as hell since they keep hearing variations of SEEEEEEEEGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA every day! The T. rex in Jurassic Park is one of my favourites! I do try to keep the volume down as much as I can, though that isn't hard since my monitor's speakers are not so great.

👍

Hopefully IE notices many of the other consoles have a jack

HDMI and Displayport carry audio signals. So it's common for monitors with an HDMI or Displayport input to have an audio jack. Also, there are several Dell monitors that came with an optional soundbar. The monitor had a power connector and a minijack to connect that soundbar.

Yeah, my monitor (ASUS MX279H) is interesting because it has built-in speakers. They are not exceptionally great and fairly quiet (PS4 BD volume is pitiful even at 90%~100%), but they usually work. I always forget about the headphone out port, though.

Since you constantly have to hold it in front of your head, a headset is not a big problem unless the wire is very long (like yours apparently). On the other hand, having a long cable would make it possible to perform Wii Bowling-like motions with the headset connected to the controller (since your arm stays quite close to you unless you're Dhalsim), but most people use earbuds so I doubt designers would add a feature that only caters to a few specific cases.

I'd rather have the 3.5mm jack than the motion controls. They are played out. They might be suited for a VR experience, but not for regular gaming. I certainly don't need any more waggle control games in my life.

The amico has usb ports on the console and the controller.  Headset 3.5mm adapters could be supported for those that don't bluetooth.

Motion controls will likely be a big part of their marketing.  We'll see if it's more than just a gimmick in their games.  And there might be around fifty games available by Christmas, many of them might not use motion control at all.

With any luck the jack is not in the middle of the back of the monitor, since it often mutes the speakers if a jack is plugged in although not always the case.

It is, and it does. It also really doesn't want to let go of anything that gets plugged into it.

I think motion has place especially for games like bowling. I loved Animaniacs Ten Pin Alley which doesn't use motion, but I think Wii Bowling is slightly more fun due to the controls.

Every game? No, but some will be appropriate and more fun.

I think they will push the motion for their recreational games for sure. That would be an appeal for Wii lovers looking for something new.

Hard to say real precisely, but I am guessing 35-45%.

80% sports and rec, 30% of edutainment, 30% of board games, etc. (dice), 30% new IP, 30% of re-imaginings
