This is concerning.  Are they going to be able to provide quality games as the pack ins?

One that is subjective. But it also appears that they might not be liking how some of them are going which probably means they don't think they are as fun as they should be.

Everything the CEO says could be considered official, I suppose.  Skiing was the only pack-in named in a press release, perhaps making it more official.  And they certainly have the right to make changes to anything they announce.  In the Q&A thread, it was said that one of Astrosmash or Frog Bog would be a pack-in but not both.  Seperately announcing Astrosmash had eliminated Frog Bog as a pack-in.  Anyway they have dozens of games in development, some of which might still be early in development.  Lots if time to determine which are the best ones for packins.

That's what I thought also.  But when he started naming and hinting the five pack-ins, they became two sports/recreation and three retro titles.  Now we'll have to wait and see.

This is what was said back in January...

I love that you mentioned his favorite game was SNAFU.  It's one of the reasons I am also including THE NEW VERSION AS ONE OF THE 5 PACK-IN GAMES!!  WHAT?!?!?!?

BOOM!  Consider that an AtariAge TT Q&A thread exclusive.  :)

I was very careful and did a TON of research and focus testing on what the 5 games should be.  Needed them to all be different yet still appeal to everyone.  Some use the motion controls, some the touch screen, others just the simple d-pad.  They all have different styles and are all super fun to play with others... even up to 8 people.

4 of them are games that everyone here knows.  1 of them is completely brand new and never done before... but a fun activity that people all know about and enjoy.

...This suggests 4 of them are remakes. There might be two sports/rec games but Skiing falls into both a remake and sport. I would guess the other game is Cornhole or Horseshoes.

There are a bunch in development and I wonder how many of those they own? They can't put Moon Patrol, any of the Atari games, or anything not their IP as a pack in without giving a part of the console sales to those IP holders.

How did you reach that conclusion?

They have lots of old Mattel titles, sports titles, and all new games IP in development to choose from.

Auto Racing could be one of the retro title pack-ins; forgot to list it among the others earlier.

Sorry...I meant to imply filler and not specific title names.

Tommy Tallarico specifically said he wanted the five pack-ins to be looked at as games that add considerable value to buying the console.  The fact that they are reconsidering one of them supports that it is what they intend to do.

There are: BiPlanes, Night Stalker, 'Slot Racer' game (assuming it isn't tied to hot wheels or something), Shark! Shark!, Armor Battle, & Auto Racing are the ones we've seen footage on.

B17, Frog Bog, Cloudy Mountain Crown of Kings, Baseball, Bowling are in development or expected to be released this fall.  They have at least forty games, maybe more, in development.  Not all will get released right away.  They've short listed seven of them for pack-ins.  Everything that they've said about Astrosmash, Snafoo, Frog Bog, Night Stalker, Bowling, and the Gamescom trailer could still be valid.

How many people and how much money do you think is needed to develop 40 games from the ground up?

I believe Tommy said the average was like 150k to 200k per title.  I can't seem to source it but it was on a podcast that he was interviewed like last week or the week before. Don't quote me on that but I know it's in that range.

I know developers put the blame on Wii motionplus and the Wii U gamepad dev kits being a PITA and unpredictable for the broken nature of many motion games. I don't know how much of that was true. Hopefully, that's gotten itself worked out in the past five years and with IE participation in the game programming and testing.

Motion games are fine when done correctly, like Metroid Prime Trilogy on the Wii (aside from the fact that that's the worst version of Metroid Prime because they removed almost all of the sequence-breaking). Then there are times when it's just annoying, like peeking out of dumpsters in Metal Gear Solid 4. If it's done well, it can be fun. It's all up to the devs, but I am glad that Intellivision is working with them to ensure quality.

If it's really Cornhole it's rather "a fun activity that American people all know about"... It won't prevent Amico to succeed - I even said before that focusing on the US first is the right thing to do - but it may be a good idea to change one of the pack-in games in Europe, or just choose a more universally known game than Cornhole. Of course I assume it's a simple game you don't need to know beforehand to enjoy, but I don't see it attracting casual gamers here (at least in France - maybe Germans love it ^^).

Do they play horseshoes in France?  I can't say I've heard of cornhole either but that doesn't really matter, as long as the game is done well and uses the motion control properly.  It was also said that it is "completely brand new and never done before".  That can't be cornhole?

Maybe SNAFOO is the one I'm not happy with.  :)

As I've mentioned... the only OFFICIAL one is Skiing at this point.

So to expand on @jaybird3rd's question then...  how did you reach the conclusion that we would put any "filler" as ANY of the pack-in games?!?

Wouldn't I want just the OPPOSITE?!?!

What are the pack in games?  The various articles I have read was that the named pack in titles have been rolled back to one? ⛷

and I am not going to search through hundreds of posts.  I was asking for details much like the other posts

I don't think I'm aware of any cornhole video game. Pretty sure there was an arcade horseshoe game.
