Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Recommended Posts

I just learned that the original Tapper arcade cabinet has actual beer tap handlers, that used to have Budweiser stickers on it on the first versions.

You move the guy with the joystick on the center, which apparently can't do diagonals (which is better in this case), and you serve the beer pressing either of the handles (again, I assume the only reason for the left handle to be there is for left-handed people).

Yo @Silverbot!

Welcome to the fun!!

Question for you... where did you first hear about Amico?

What interests you the most about it?

Thanks!

Hi Tommy,

I first herd about Amico back in March, I was on YouTube and the first gameplay video of Night Stalker appeared,I was blown away by how good it looked and sounded. I’ve been following OEB Pete and the Amico videos you do with him ever since.

I’ve been playing video games since 1976, and the Amico brings me back to the good old days of gaming but with a modern twist. I hate having to update a game nearly every time I want to play it, paid for loot boxes, don’t get me started on them. I cancelled my PS5 order so I can make sure I can get Amico on launch day. For a guy just over 50 I feel like I’m a kid again at Christmas.

Hi Tommy, I’m new here to the site and was wondering if you could answer a few questions, I do apologies if they have been answered before.

1. will there be some sort of gamer profile so you can have a gamer tag?

2. Amazon here in the UK have the white Amico for preorder, do you know when the black one will be available to preorder?

3. will you be releasing Whitewater by Imagic for Amico?

4. I think Marble Madness would be a good fit for the Amico, just add more stages as well of the arcade ones, make it 4 player, the screen on the controller could emulate the trackball when you slide your finger over it. Any way just an idea.

please keep up the good work, I’m very much looking forward to playing Amico soon.

Since Tommy likes root beer, there should be a Root Beer Man game on Amico.  I made a post a while ago about Pepsi Man and that Amico should have Coca Cola Man on it.  But Root Beer Man sounds better.  Lol.

How about Root Beer Tapper?  Classic game!

That’s the one I first played, with the Budweiser logo.

Marble Madness would be great on the Amico! I could see the casuals really loving it. I've often wondered about the trackball, if the disc would be good for emulating it, or if the controller could have an attachment of some kind or even something like a joycon that deattaches, changing the disc to a trackball (or even a dial for breakout).

I wonder if they have ever considered a stylus for use with the touchpad.

I think the touchpad can emulate a trackball better than the disc. The disc functions more like an analog thumbstick.   See the Amico Missile Command video.  Will be interesting to see how paddle games are handled.

With the retro re-imagined games, specifically shooters like Astrosmash, they begin slow and easy.  What if in single player there was a mode like bullet time where the whole game is slow for people who aren't good at shooters but still want to enjoy the game?  Perhaps make bullet time a power up?  Maybe you're in a level of Astrosmash and can't beat it but with the power up, victory is yours.  It would be beneficial.

Intellivision Astrosmash is programmed to get harder when you're doing well but can actually gets easier when you start losing.

Okay, I didn't know.  I never played the Intellivision version.  I played Astroblast on 2600.  I think the 2600 version was the same in terms of difficulty.  Of course I'm hoping the Amico version will have an easy mode for single player.

Yes I know of that game.  It can be on Amico.  But what I was talking about was a platformer type game where you play as a root beer can or mug with arms and legs. And a face too. A character that is kind of like Cool Spot.  In the game you would run around in 2D/2.5D and fight enemies by jumping on them.  Similar to Super Mario Bros.  Anyway, I don't know, it sounds silly but it could work.  Lol.

Had to get the correct intellivoice speech in here.  Intellivoice actually wasn't packaged with a cartridge.  The Amico B17 remake should be a good one.

What would be a Kick is if the Amico physical version would be a mini Intellivoice with an even mini-er B-17 Cart.  Like what New Wave toys did with the Dragon's Lair arcade. If you haven't seen it.. See below..  The laserdisc even has a sleeve!

New Wave Toys on Twitter: "Dragon's Lair x RepliCade Presale is live on Kickstarter! Mini 12 inch PlayScale replica that Looks, Plays and Controls like the original 1983 Dragon's Lair arcade machine!

PS -

I for one don't care how large the file would be, I'd still like to see Dragon's Lair on the Amico. Adding more storage to the Amico does not break the bank.

I don't know, good question.  I get my 8 hours every night.  I wish I could be like Tommy and only need 4 hours.

But are they 8.. In a row?!?!?!  :)

Or even do the C64 SpinDizzy.  That was a very good game as well.
