Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

If you notice those are always pretty much the same people who just in a comment or two earlier said it sucks, the games look lame & like Flash games (so they were never 'in') and if you read a bit farther they will confess the are basically butt-hurt over something Tommy said about their personally favorite console or something. Meanwhile Amico live chats just keep getting bigger, Reddit /r/Amico keeps on growing (more than doubled in size since last year), Intellivision YouTube subs keep climbing, and people who make videos about the Amico have their highest video views. I find it hilarious they are desperately hoping people will join in their staged 'walkout', they don't realize that people like what they see are are just patiently waiting for the console to ship. BTW they will be back posting next week about the next video even thought they are 'out' 🤣

Exactly.

I avoid reddit, but I imagine it's the same very small handful of cloak & dagger operatives with their multiple fake accounts.

Here's the funniest part for me.  Ever notice how often "that group" will declare how only lonely white men in their 40's & 50's are the ones interested in Amico.  They make fun of guys like OEB Pete, Atari Creep, Mike Mullis, RetroAdvisoryBoard, AnthiumTwoTales, TheRetroBro, GenerationalGamer, etc., etc., etc... (I could go on and on) yet completely miss the reality and facts that ALL of those folks are PARENTS with young kids.

Then watch most of the "haterz" complaining about those people.

Notice anything?

And without naming names...

They seem to be lonely men in the 40's & 50's typically unmarried and NO kids with nothing better to do than to bitch about a video game system on a daily basis that hasn't come out yet.

Project much?

:D :D :D :D :D

Immature impulse because they can't have it now.  Don't worry most will buy it anyway and Amico is going to be huge.

Nailed it!

They'll be the first in line to purchase... so they can complain about it more.

So in the end...

They bought it.

I win.

:D

Whatever the launch games are, I’m buying them all and hoping for the “press one button” to buy all. Also hoping I can Pre-order 8 controllers , any physical media and ALL the accessories available in launch with my FE so I can get everything in one box. I want it all !! 🤪

I like your style!!

I figure I’ll spend about $1,000 on launch. I’m ready and not really spending any money on games until then 😎

To be clear, the 35 games at launch would include the 6 pack-in games.

35 is our launch goal.

Good to know.  Darn, I thought the pack in games were counted as extra making it 41.

Ask Tommy Questions (paraphrased) - lots of great discussion & asides in each answer, well worth watching it all if you have time :

Do you plan to give a glimpse of Utopia in the near future?
https://youtu.be/Hv2-kFiDOCY?t=224

When the Amico launches will there be a "Amico Club" to get special offers, news, etc?

https://youtu.be/Hv2-kFiDOCY?t=333

If an Amico game needs an update after release will it automatically update?

https://youtu.be/Hv2-kFiDOCY?t=563

Did you ever find the winning name for the "Holiday App" mentioned in a prior interview?

https://youtu.be/Hv2-kFiDOCY?t=642

What games, if any, have you personally been enjoying outside of the Amico lineup?

https://youtu.be/Hv2-kFiDOCY?t=685

Before you pursued Intellivision did you think of buying another old game company or IP?

Who makes fun of me.... let me at them... actually my 4 year old makes better arguments about why Mulan is actually a princess and the best one compared to all those haters negative Amico arguments.  Also, I tell my daughter all the time Mulan is a warrior and not a princess.  She retorts with "Fine, she  is a Warrior Princess!" Argument won!

Okay now... I'm in my mid 50s and don't have any kids.

I preordered a VP one and I don't say anything... well much. 🤪

Don't we have to wait until the sales number comes in before we start calling it names?

I believe Tommy has told us it was a "Snapdragon" processor.   I don't think we've been given the specific one.  Yet.  It's hard to speculate it's capability right now. . Kind of like saying I have an i5 or an i7 processor in my PC. Or an Nvidia Card.  As a numbers person, I get it. I'd love to find out.  For me, and a good number of people here, it boils down to a few things:

1)Do the games play well?

2)Are the games I want to play on this platform?

3)Are the games priced right for what you get? (Both Digital and physical).*

3)See rules one,two, and three.

My answers so far:

1)They certainly look like they do. And look to be, mostly, my cup of tea. So YES.

2)Not just the launch games.. But the line up in the future..  And the Wouldn't that be somethingtm potential line up makes me say Yes!  I do understand that some may not hit the console. I am taking my chances here... But if a majority of the WTBS's that have been mentioned do hit.. Double YES!

3)While we don't have a price breakdown of the individual games. I've seen enough to know that the one's I do like, I can see me buying regardless of where it lays on that range. Others.. Depending on the price..  There are enough in the top tier to make the plunge. So that is another YES for me.

4)YES

* We already know the starting price of the console, so it's down the price of each game. And the value/collectable proposition for the physical media.

Totally agree with you, there are some really great looking games, but I was just wondering what the potential of the Amico is. Just a comparison maybe to a Xbox 360 or Wii U for example 👍😀

Totally agree, consoles are all about the games you prefer and the value proposition it offers to you, not the tech specs. You value portability or like Mario & Zelda and are willing to accept more of AA experience than AAA? Well then suddenly the Switch processor doesn't suck compared to the Playstation. Want to play AAA games with ray tracing in 4k and are willing to pay for it? Well you had better look to Sony and Microsoft and see which one has the games you prefer. Like older retro games and want a legal & curated library over piracy? The Evercade has you covered. Want 100% family friendly content or casual games with a guaranteed coop option to play with friends? Then the Amico is the best console out there for that. That is why Baskin Robbins has all those flavors. I am really happy the Amico is yet another console option out there because so far the price and features fit exactly what I want in a console.

It would also be good for devs to know this, so they can get a good idea of how they'll need to adapt their code for the new console.

That'll be tough to do with the low cost of the games! 29 launch games excluding the pack ins, even if they all cost the upper limit of $10, that's only $290. If you include the console that takes you up to $540 (plus taxes)...

I guess you can always buy a boat load of controllers! It'd be another $360 I think to buy another 6, taking you up to the maximum of 8. So that'd be $900 plus any taxes...

It has the same amount of RAM as the Wii U, so that usually gives you a rough idea of how powerful a console is. I think Tommy said it's slightly less powerful than the Wii U, but I could be wrong, and obviously it's not the emphasis of the console. Obviously it can be tough for small teams to extract all the power of something like the Wii U or Xbox 360, so it's probably more than powerful enough from that perspective.
