Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Question,  in regards to the input lag, could you make a version of Amico with more lag? I'm certain some in the YouTube community would benefit from it. 😏

On April first, that could be hilarious !

Tommy : "So welcome everyone for another demonstration, an almost finished version for this game."
Tommy trying to begin playing, but a lots of problem occurs ...  "Sh..   What's happening with this f ...  game ! It's not just lagging, it's unplayable"

etc, etc.   A lot of cool ideas could then happens ! You know, april 1st for April fool's day ... !

Amico on fire, John Alvaro coming with an extinguisher ! lol

John saying "I told you not to use a Banana Pi ...! " 😂🤪

That could be so cool. lol   Tommy could make it on his own channel.🤣

@Tommy Tallarico

Looks like the games will be limited on the Evercade because it doesn't have a touch screen.  It seems to be a pretty neat little system, but limited by the controls and how they will be mapped.

So for my suggestions... Based on what looks like SNES style buttons/d-pad style controls...

Armor Battle,

Space Battle,

Auto Racing,

Air Strike,

Skiing,

Triple Action,

Mission X,

Thin Ice,

Loco-Motion,

Sharp Shot,

SNAFU,

Star Strike,

Slap Shot hockey

Super Pro Football,

Maybe a few more after that as well... Gaming stuff that doesn't use the keypad?

System really limits the Intv games.  But at least they'll be a part of it!

Yes!  Make a family friendly game called "Household Chores".   The point of the game is to have one spouse/character asks the other one on the pixelated couch to take out the trash.  Then YouTubers can count the number of the number of video frames between pressing the disc and 3 days later when the virtual spouse finally gets off the couch.

Certainly PINBALL!

If the buttons can be mapped?  Sub Hunt

If Mission X and Locomotion are on the list...  Bump n Jump

Again.. Button mapping,  But I think Hover Force could work.

Christmas Carol could work very nicely.   Unless "Christmas" has a copyright issue!  ;)

Have you been spying on me and my "honey, can you take out the garbage" habits, because it seems like you are 😳 And if you are, can you gab that bag of garbage just outside the door and toss it in the trash can, oh and go ahead put the can on the curb, they are coming early next week - thx

@Tommy Tallarico Non Amico related question. Which game that you worked on are you the worst at playing? Just occurred to me that you've worked on some pretty challenging games. So which one challenges you the most?

Lady Bug is probably my favorite Colecovision game.  Can I say Colecovision here?  LOL

I was thinking about Gauntlet.  Your first choice put that idea back in my head!  Four Player arcade game, so a good co-op choice too.

QIX!!!!!!!!  Love it!  Yes, re-imagined and a great sound track would be awesome.

Marble madness is such a cool game.  I don't think I have ever had a home version of this?  But I used to play Gyroscope on the C64 BITD.

I guess I will add 1 or 2.

A re-imagined SPACE BATTLE could be cool.  With a Battle Star Galactica license this time around!   By your command.

A re-imagined Sub Hunt.  one ping only.  Had Hunt for Red October for the C64 also...   Darn,  Need to get a C64 again.  I guess I can wait a little longer for my Amico!

Had a friend with Coleco, but we didn’t play it much. Only game I remember (which was fun) was a 2D top down space racer. Was fun with trying to manage the “drifting” required. Believe there were obstacles, guns and a mode where the two players were tethered. I have always loved space drift games.

Can you picture splitting the 1080 screen in thirds. [][][]

RED BLUE and GOLD squadrons could each have a third of the screen for battling the cylons.

Or All squadrons could engage in the same battle in full screen.

I don't know how well splitting the screen would work?  I always hated the top/bottom split on the 4x3 screens.  But I would like to see a proof of concept.

If were adding a mode for multiplayer (as an option as the original version must also remain), suggest adding one squadron and keep it to two players (and split screen when one player is in battle), allowing each player to manage 2.

Man, the excitement of even talking about the potential future of Amico and Intellivision has been worth the price of the pre-order deposit.

Not sure if this is coming to Amico.  I would like to see Space Battle re-imagined too.  I did hear Tommy say that Star Strike will be on Amico.

I think this calls for a new unofficial prelaunch amico mascot.

Introducing ......  Shilly Lag

Can't argue with unbiased science... unless additional unbiased science proves earlier unbiased science to be wrong, which does happen. As I greatly appreciate the care put into unbiased lag testing at places like RetroRGB and firmly believe in and support what Bob does over there, seeing some random dude on Reddit claim that an unreleased system has 10 frames of lag without doing any actual testing just makes me laugh at them. While it's entirely possible this is true, well... we'll see. As long as it doesn't affect the system badly, it doesn't really matter. The Sega Genesis Mini and Mega Drive Mini has 3~7 frames of variable lag, for example, and that's been proven (by Bob over at RetroRGB, for that matter). People who are not me seem to love the Genesis Mini, so yeah.

Anyone else find it funny that those find-any-“reason” (regardless of reason) folks bag on Intellivision for unfounded (and nonsense-icle) millisecond lag conveniently do not mention Amico’s lack of hour long, day one game patch downloads?  At 35 games at launch, thats a lot of milliseconds!

It's a fantastic question.  Thanks for asking.  We have a really great account system that is uncomplicated and easy (yet powerful).  I can't really say much more about it at this point but just know that we are aware of the Wii stuff and feel that we have come up with a pretty cool and modern solution to cover all of the complex bases that need to be covered in the "pirating" world we unfortunately live in.

Many thanks Tommy for the answer. Curious on how the "home screen" and "store" look now. Appreciate your time.

Something that comes to mind, perhaps not for the everyday consumer, and you don't have to answer this one, but how strong is your IP protection globally? Do you have everything made in China? Or only certain parts? The last thing you need is for some knock-off to show up on Alibaba or other sites. I would hope the "secret sauces" that make the Amico work are kept with you. I know all companies do business there, but there's a risk to that.

Thanks Tommy - part of my issue is that channels you mention I should follow feel disingenuous and exaggerated. OEB Pete’s goofy faces in the thumbnails are not helping on that front.

As for the official channels that trust was broken when I saw the clip where you mention putting weird things in to mess with your haters and generate negative reactions.

I’m not interested in misinformation in official videos for the sake of the lulz. It makes the people that want to support it feel like suckers if they don’t know what’s real and what’s not.

Best of luck in your endeavor, I’ll see myself out, thanks for replying.

just let me know your YouTube username and you shall never see my face again :)

hahaha great!🤣🤣🤣

Reading some of these comments....What kind of people log into chat rooms to comment and watch videos of things they dislike?  What a crappy way to spend your precious time. Go spend your time with something you enjoy.  Funny part is, I bet every single one will buy an Amico the first chance they get. Then probably come back here to talk about how horrible the system is as they log in hundreds of hours of play time just to look for things they can complain about.  Sad existence.

Anyway on to why almost all of us are here.  Looking forward to the release date announcement.

Good to know.  Perhaps I misheard what you said in the Amico podcast.  For some reason it looked grey.  Like you said the camera made it look grey.  But in the office tour video I did see the brown lanyard.  Then I was happy.  😀

See and now I'm digging the grey with the woodgrain and gold.  Here's to customization!

Space Armada has always been included in the intellivison collections.  And Keith was very conservative about these things, not to mention Mattel's lawyers.  A space armada alien was even made the cover of the nintendo ds edition.

Lets just say I have first hand knowledge that the folks in Japan were not happy with Space Armada being on any platforms.   :)

This article about Sony's quarterly report says a lot about the current situation -  Sony is losing money on the PS5 (of course not a big deal if you got deep pockets) and although they made over 4 million, they can't meet production for the demand. You know with Sony's resources and everyone being stuck at home, they are doing everything possible to make & move units, the capability just isn't there.  I am not sure how Microsoft is doing on the XBox X Series XX, er X? but I am assuming they are in the same boat. Basically 2020 was a soft launch for both of them. The consoles & games will really start arriving this fall (hopefully).

If we had that kind of bank account we'd be selling Amico for $199 out of the gate.  :)

Here's an original idea: why not reprogramming the original Intellivision games that don't support single player for their re-launch on both the Evercade and the Amico adding a single player option with a good IA?

INTV already did that in the mid 80's with most of the SUPER PRO versions.  :)
