Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Another push back? I pre-purchased this with intentions of getting to play it in April.  What does another 6 months get us anyway?  More launch games? some new incentive?

I wonder if I can turn off the fake NTSC scan lines.

I'd like to leave some things back in the 80s aside from parachute pants, big hair and New Coke.

Now these DO need to make a comeback!

Err... you do know how offensive that flag can be, right?

Craig McCracken is interested in having a video game made for his very recent Netflix cartoon, Kid Cosmic:

Haven't watched it, but it seems to be getting good buzz among the target audience. You interested, @Tommy Tallarico?

I can answer that now. Absolutely Fu**ing NOT!

Not every GenXer was swallowed by this GPK cult! Just stop with the "All us 80s kids liked..." stuff!😜

I agree. I never paid any attention to GPK.

And I collected Wacky Packs,Baseball and Basketball cards and played and owned every video game system made in the 80s. Barely even knew GPK existed.

Lots of great things in the 80s but not everyone liked or collected the same things.

Better a longer pushback to October than another interim pushback to summer followed by the inevitable pushback to October.  I applaud the realism and better launch window.

That said, if the date slips past 10/10/2021...  Not good.

One question I have is are there any games that are 100% complete ? I get the feeling that the delay is mainly hardware related but possibly software related ? I would have thought that some games would be complete at this stage. I have heard many games are 98 % complete but if they plan to launch with 30-35 games then some or many of them should be 100 % complete I would think 🤔

A quality Amico System with optimized store front, games, viable supply chain and completion of required certifications.

Alternative to waiting is an unfinished, non-certified (i.e. illegal to sell) hardware, higher production cost (due to higher part costs - and that is assuming all parts are even available) system.

My vote is for the delay.  Agree its not the news we were all hoping for, but unfortunately current reality trumps wants.

I just want a good product, if it takes an extra few months then so be it. I have said many times if I was tasked with developing a new console with a unique controller & an entire launch lineup I would have to change my UnderRoos. Being in business and having shipped products (although nothing in this league) I know how hard it is to put everything together. Intellivision, take your time, do it right and deliver me the fun, simple, family friendly machine Tommy promised at the beginning. That is all I want.

As much as I hate to see a delay, it is also understandable why.

When Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are bogarting the market and yet still suffering component shortages for their consoles, you know the new guys to the market are going to get the short end of the proverbial supply stick.

I was hoping for summer, but it certainly could be worse then October. On the plus side, with the additional time for the Amico to be tested and polished up programming-wise the likelihood of critical Day Zero/Day One updates should be hopefully reduced. How I loathe those, despite how they seem to be considered acceptable and normal nowadays.

Plus a larger game library available at launch is not such a terrible thing. That is part of what has me shaking my head at the PS5 buyers. Dropping around a grand (thanks scalpers!) for a console with a basically nonexistent title library; meaning you will likely be for some time using it for playing PS4 games.

For now it looks like my Atari, Intellivision and the PS3 get to entertain me for a few more months yet :D

It is a bummer!  But I get it...

I just hope that the Original Intellivision game packs do not get pushed even further back.

I understand establishing the Amico before muddying the waters with the 80's games.  Haters gotta hate.  SAD isn't it.

But maybe a super secret (pre-ordered) list can get access earlier than the general public?  As we would be the highest hit rate on purchasing these anyway.

Not in total volume, but demographic.

Updating my handle to 2020gamer sounded better than 2021gamer though.  LOL  guess I will stay with 1980gamer.

SHIT..  Just hit me how long I have been playing Intellivision!

Tommy and all of the Intellivision group, THANK YOU for your efforts and when you can get it manufactured, we will love it!

Now that Amico has established a working relationship with Topps, would you consider a Mars Attacks strategy game? Mars Attacks had shrink rays, freeze rays, giant robots, giant insects and world domination....what more could you ask for in a strategy video game?

There was another game console that was suppose to release in 2020 and was delayed into 2021. Playdate was supposed to be out a year ago, and now it should launch sometime in 2021. Honestly, I haven't heard anything about it or seen anything about its games, but it should still be coming. People were excited for it, and I guess they still are. Personally, I'm excited for Amico whenever it launches.

Okay, I thought you were talking about 2 different consoles.  But anyway, yeah.  I don't know what is going on with Playdate.  The last email I got about it was 10/30/20 I think.

Forget the $400 consoles, auto makers have reportedly cut back on car production due to chip shortages, and its much easier for them to bury cost uppers for their chips given their small percentage of the total costs that are required for build (parts, labor, facilities, etc. and especially given their $30k+ price tags) then for consoles with much lower cost and chips representing a higher percentage of the overall component cost.

The take away is that despite the low percentage chip cost (or more likely availability) required for build, the chip shortage is preventing auto makers from bringing their $30k+ products to market.

Hi Tommy,

Recently I bought something on Radio Shack (yep, they're still in business) called "InventrKits Adventure Kit: 30 Days Lost in Space."  I've always wanted to learn coding and circuitry, this item makes it into a fun activity, so with that I justified my impulse purchase.

https://www.radioshack.com/products/inventrkits-adventure-kit-30-days-lost-in-space

If something like this were offered on the Amico, I'd set my budget conscious aside (again) & buy it for my founder edition.

Arduino and raspberry pi have this sector covered i think

I was a fan on the Monster Trading Cards.

Anyone else collect those in the day?

Hey all,

As we have time to think about it now I wanted to throw an idea out there. I know Tommy will keep us in clips until the launch and I find myself ever more so thinking of collecting the physical when it comes out.

Tommy...you mentioned at one point I think about 12 physical games coming when the launch hits (hope I'm getting that right). Would there be a possibility of making like a super starter 5 pack? Now that you're back to releasing by the holidays...what if you had 5 physical games in a wicked cool package...say night stalker, bowling, bi-planes, Finnigan fox, and maybe some brain age type edutainment game...Retail it for $100.00 ($20 per game)

Can you imagine being the kid that gets to open 5 toys, that are also video games on Christmas morning all for less than the price of 2 AAA games anywhere else???

Now the reality for me as a NIB (New In Box) collector is that I'd have to have the 5-pack and then one of each of them separately.

Call it the "fantastic five" and hope Marvel doesn't mind ;)

Cheers All,

The Wren
