Another question to add - Sim games. Not just Utopia and that "Let Them Trade" game.

Any Tycoon games? Potential city builders? Theme Park games? Sim Theme Park? (Maybe Rollercoaster Tycoon type game)? 👻

If no - could see some cool potential with integrated maps/plots of land on the controller, using the touchscreen to zoom in on coordinates on the city map, etc. Maybe tap to place buildings.

  • 3:08:07 No fighting games right now - they're button mashers, mostly violent.  (Amico isn't looking at button mashers).  Funny fighting games like Clayfighters could be an option.  Wouldn't be first round to reach everybody.

I didn't like what I heard about the physical media not being like boxes on a shelf.  Call me Mr. Boring but I like my boxes on a shelf.  Please don't let the games come in the form of dust collecting clutter like Amiibo.  I am NOT someone who likes collecting that sort of thing.  I like nice, neat, orderly boxes.

I'm thinking he means they will include different things like posters  and what not

The talk of Plimpton and references to the family. . .that is so awesome. . .he's a guy who is close to disappearing from literature history. Most under the age of 35 probably haven't a clue who he is. He was a culturally significant writer from the last quarter of the 20th Century.

Mad Magazine's gag lampooning his attempts at playing with professional sports teams, with him swimming across Lake Erie, strolling through Times Square in the middle of the night (this was the 1970's), and spending a week with Jerry Lewis. . .absolutely hilarious.

Would love to see hologram Plimpton.

I hope physical games from retail stores are not only codes included in the boxes and you need to go online to get the games. That would suck.

From the sounds of it, you won't be getting plain boxes.

I would be ok with pretty cards one can easily transport in a wallet and collect in some kind of binder!

I love manuals (I used to always read them before playing) but I guess they're not needed for most Amico games anyway...

Having the touchscreen work similar to an analog stick for movement is pretty cool.

In some ways it's better than an analog stick.  I wouldn't want to use a thumbstick for breakout or warlords.

Lunar Lander is another good example.  If you remember, the arcade game had that massive analog thrust lever.  But it wasn't self-centring, it stayed in place so you can accurately adjust main engine thrust.  You could map that function to an analog thumbstick or buttons but it's nothing how it should be.  I can see the touchpad working nicely here.

Curious how the new Night Stalker controls.  Can you run in one direction and shoot in the other?

Hey Tommy have you thought about maybe allowing people with golden tickets the first shot at founders edition preorder?  I need that wood grain so bad I’ll be disappointed If I miss out.

R-Type?

No!!!!! No to R-Type right now! Intellivision's design team isn't ready. Do the trial runs with Moon Patrol & Astrosmash, hone the skills with Demon Attack & maybe uh' Laser Gates or Solar Storm.

R-Type should only be attempted when IE designers know Amico like the back of their hand and can push the little console to it's limits with something so beautiful, it'll knock Ori & The Blind Forest off of it's perch as the most gorgeous 2D game in the world. And it should play better than any previous versions, including the Arcade games.

Anything less, then I will barge into the IE lobby and scream and pout that "you ruined my game" and a crying 55 year old is not a pretty sight. And you'll have to call the cops on me!

I didn't think the wood grain model is limited to the founders edition.

Ok that would make me more optimistic. It isn’t clear to me what is FE vs regular retail.

If you're thinking of getting a Woodgrain Amico try to get the FE one. The $50 dollar gift certificate alone makes it a better value over just the plain limited edition. Tommy dropped yesterday the limited edition Amico's would probably be around $279. The founders is $299. Regular Amico's would be around $229.

Founders includes:
Limited to 2600
Early access to the console
Numbered & signed Woodgrain Amico
Numbered & signed 3D running man lenticular poster
$50 Gift Certificate/Metal Golden Ticket
Founders Embroidered Patch
Founders Writing Pen
Earthworm Jim Soundtrack

I'm not sure there may be another item as well. It kinda got cut off when Tommy was announcing stuff yesterday. Made a mistake. It's a founders pin not a writing pen, oops.

Look at 40:48.   yes we had a lot of scoop, and Thank you Tommy, it was really a great video you did. ( You looked a little tired at the end, but it's understandable ;) )

Look in the text from fans watching live. We recognize Smash JT ! And we know he tried the machine !

I really love when he is writing :" My favorite part for Amico is something not many people are talking about ! That CIRCLE PAD on the controller is WAY more advanced than you think " 🤩

Hey Tommy,

About cornhole and similar games: In Spain we have something called "petanca", very similar to bocce, the Italian version. Every freaking country seems to have each own version of this sport, so I wonder... no, I demand you to please include every single version in the Amico game. That would be... well, different. And cool too!

About the negativity part 1 (the first comment on the video): Crinn Cashin is not the user who assumed you had kids, that other user is BRNexus7, who replied to your message on the first Haytham Gruxton video and will apparently be offended for life because you dared to reply to his attacks on Twitter. Crinn Cashin, however, is an interesting person himself too: under the name of a manga character, he uploads videos where he, simultaneously, sings All that She Wants and Kiss from a Rose, smokes, drives, swears and screams to other drivers. He also uploads videos of squirrels. Sometimes it's good to know more about the person that you are debating with on the Interwebs, it can help you understand whether you need to take their messages seriously or not. 🙊🙈🍹

About the negativity part 2 (the nature of hardcore gamers): It's interesting how Sony and Microsoft fans are mostly ignoring the console, as expected (the first reply to your Twitter EJW announcement the other day was "what is this Amico thing? Is it some kind of meme?), but the worst attacks have come from hardcore gamers that love Nintendo (see the CUPodcast and its fans). It's like, instinctively, they know the Amico is competing on the same market as the brand they love and they feel the need to help their team win the fight. Fortunately, some Nintendo fans, such as 1001lives, are approaching the console with an open mind.

About using your games in other Amico consoles: How is this going to work exactly? How long will your friends be able to play your games after you connect your controller to their machines? Will you be able to use your controller after loading the games or does it need to remain over the console to play the games?

Thanks for the squirrel videos.  It really does put the whole "hater" thing into perspective and who we're dealing with.  It really does.  Appreciate the links.  Still good for me (us) to respond when we see stuff though as it allows other 3rd parties to see another side which typically gets them to want to do a little more research.

I think the super haters (resetera, 4chan) are hardcore Sony & Microsoft fans.  I agree that it's coming from the Nintendo area the most as they tend to be typically younger and more immature overall.

In regards to the controller and game sharing.  The second my controller is disconnected from your machine (as I will need my controller to play my own machine at home) the game will not be able to be played... although it will stay on the hard drive (in your menu... but unplayable) for a week (if the user doesn't delete it themselves).  Still some really interesting and AMAZING news about this feature that has yet to be revealed to the public.  Will be revealing it at E3 during our press conference.   :)

I will admit , I am a pretty hardcore Nintendo fan. Have been for 25 years. But I also own an Xbox and Playstation, and think that new hardware is exciting if it's not OUYA... I used to think Amico was crowdfunded and was something like that Coleco Chameleon but I was willing to research. I learned in college people hate research... But worse than hating it, most people don't even do research to begin with. Everyone seems to think any new hardware now is OUYA or Chameleon... and it's like OUYA has cursed everyone who attempts to make new hardware. OUYA has left lasting damage on the industry on many levels and so did the Chameleon for Retro gamers. It's really a shame. Without those two I wonder what Amico would look like to people? It's very hard to have an open mind because of these what I would call "blights" on the startup industry. As if it wasn't hard enough dealing with the perception only "The Big 3" can make game systems or gaming toys/hardware.

People have decided that games are a certain way and can only be made by certain people , experience has conditioned them to see things one way, rather than being open to the idea that things could be different. From anyone, not just Amico. That is CUPodcasts biggest problem, next to just wanting to be negative for no reason. They would have said many of the same things about NES launching in 1985 if they had their CUPodcast then, I bet.

Yeah... the whole Ouya thing really screws us in a number of different ways.  Not only from a public perception standpoint... but even more importantly for us... an investor stand point!  Julie and her crew over at Ouya not only raised around $8 million on Kickstarter... but an addition $40 million through institutional/VC investors!  All the biggest ones came in.  After getting burned like crazy... anyone who was invested in Ouya is not interested in talking to anyone at a new console... no matter who you are or what your product is.  We've been battling this from the beginning... but of course... working through it.  They don't call it HARDware because it's easy!

😁

I agree about the CUPodcast... as I mentioned... it's easier to just go negative on something.  I think their biggest issue in talking about Amico is that it's clear that they see a post and you can tell that they are doing research in real-time as they are talking about it.  They start forming personal opinions before getting all the info required to form that opinion.  I've been told by many folks that they are kinda known for not researching enough and are hardcore Nintendo guys (I don't know much about them... only what I've been told).  But that's okay... they are entitled to have their own style for sure.  They attract the type of folks who enjoy that kind of on-the-fly approach... which is perfectly okay.  Doesn't really sync well with the way we operate as there is SO much info out there and you really need to talk to me to get the bigger picture.  Amico isn't something that you can just explain in a press release or a few sentences or 2 minute trailer.

I think you'll see that as more info starts coming out that Pat & Ian will start to come around.  They still don't really know half the stuff about the console (which I know they would like) and because they refuse to speak with me about it... it will take them awhile for it to all sink in and realize what we're doing and why.  I actually somewhat enjoy the challenge of converting detractors as I am very confident that we have something special and unique... but most importantly... something that many many people want.  And a lot more than the 5,000 units Pat predicted we would sell.

We won't have a booth on the floor (as our big public reveal isn't until June at E3)... but we will be doing meetings, etc.
