Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Recommended Posts

Those are my shots, Tommy. I can't drift, but I've ridden along with a few of them. It was a blast!

Never played Afrika, but it sounds interesting. There's this PC Engine japan only game I was thinking of (I can do without the big nose), but the hunting game idea jCalder8 had would be epic.

How about a drifting game?

Great idea!

Anyone play Absolute Drift Zen Edition on PS4?  I pretty much only play driving games, driving sims, etc. on modern systems.  I loved the way this game looked, sounded, and felt.

If the Amico can pull something like this off...so much fun.

That looks super cool!  I'll add it to our list to reach out to the developer.

Excellent!  I am already imagining driving with a disc, it never occurred to me how much better it would be than the stick.

This is hilarious.  I'm an engine builder, I build racing 2-strokes for snowmobiles and whatever else someone wants to put one in.  I don't really even think about gaming much until after 10 every night, and my stupid hands and forearms are so worn out I can't really hold controllers for more than a half hour or so anyway.  Suddenly I'm wondering if I should start some long-overdue physical therapy, so if Absolute Drift makes it's way to the Amico I can actually enjoy it-and all the other games, too, actually.

I have serious priority issues.

Thanks Tommy!

as i said before i am looking forward to an updated Horse Racing game on the Amico..me and my dad used to play Horse Racing together all the time and he would get a kick out of the 3 furlong races where he would coax out of the gate and kick my butt (never told him i let him lol)

we were in the harness racing industry for many years and we had so many friends that loved that game and still to this day talk about how they would play it all the time and some even said they would keep stats on all the horses lol

the thing is there has NEVER been a harness racing game on a console and only ONE harness racing PC game (Harness Racing Manager)

which is amazing because just about every genre has been covered from plate spinning to break dancing and yet no harness racing game lol

now i know there are some areas of the country that have never had a harness track or seen a harness race but where i'm from in Illinois

it has always been pretty big and there are so many people that i know that would buy an Amico instantly if there was a harness racing game

now i know that would be a niche title but maybe thoroughbred and harness could be combined..just throwing it out there

Better yet.... How about a photography game. Like hidden wildlife or catching somebody committing crime?

I like your ideas!

But would it sell? Something I've wondered. That is the ultimate question. 😎

This gets my vote, something either like Pokemon Snap or Afrika from the PS3. I'm sick of hunting games how about some where you appreciate nature

You may be planning a re-imagining of White Water, but you could do a mash-up with this game for the 2600, Raft Rider. Moose, beavers chucking in logs, gold to grab, maybe a bear or badger in POVish style. Good forest, river and animal scenery. Not the best graphics or game play, but I like the trees and animals.

I think I may have asked this in the wrong thread, do you have a prototype motherboard yet?  Or are the demos running on a PC or Mac?  Maybe an Android powered ARM thingy?  I love looking at PCB designs. :)

Hey Tommy, I just found a comment from a random Youtube user:

image.thumb.png.ecf5112646be4583972c396ec4808ab6.png

I think this is an interesting question: do you think the original Intellivision controllers were too complex, using so many buttons? Will the remakes of these games use less buttons?

EDIT: Oh wow! It looks like the user is coincidentally an AtariAge user... It's weird that in Youtube he speaks negatively about "the Amico fans" and in AtariAge he only posts in an Amico thread, but I won't criticize that because I believe in freedom of speech and that everyone should waste their time and lives as they like. ❤️🌈🎈

How lucky we are to be able to concentrate our energy in things that we like.

What part of my comment is negative?

And here is the full context of the comment. We were discussing “Cloudy Mountain” and how many buttons the game uses.

Not sure about Amico fans but my main complaint with modern controllers is not too many buttons, it's that they're left-handed.  The Amico controller being ambidextrous fixes that.

It's true in some ways Amico is the opposite of the intellivision.  The Intellivision was the more expensive system with more advanced controls, more realistic graphics, and more involved gameplay.

Edit:

The negativity perhaps is where it was suggested Amico fans are hypocrites.

That’s a strange stretch you’re taking there. That’s not what I was implying. I think you guys are becoming a little too sensitive. I was simply stating a fact and early on one of the arguments Amico fans had about modern controllers was that they had too many buttons when a game in 1982 was utilizing  about 12 buttons. Nowhere did I imply anybody was a hypocrite :)

Whats negative is bringing in comments I made outside of this forum in order to cause some strange drama between members. That’s in no way directed at you mr_me.

Do you really feel that eating the weaker competition, including several endangered fish, to grow larger and become even more of a carnivorous bully is in sync with modern sensibilities?

The game should be about eating the plastic micro particles which are polluting our oceans, which will turn you into a larger, but mutated, fish who can now eat straws, and then plastic bags, and then discarded Atari VCS's. The more you eat, the more you clean the ocean. The last stage should involve you eating an entire illegal salmon fishing vessel...

I mean, large fish do eat smaller fish. That's how it works.

There was a series of games I loved for the original Xbox called Fatal Frame, which was like a first-person shooter, only instead of you shooting weapons, you had only an old vintage camera with a mystical ability to capture images of ghosts. It was a very scary series of games, set in Japan, where you explored creepy places and when ghosts appeared, you could fend them off by capturing their image with a camera. Very cool concept. I know that's not the type of game that Amico would carry, but I thought the concept of using a camera as your only "weapon" was a cool change from traditional first-person shooters.
