But would it sell? Something I've wondered. That is the ultimate question. 😎

They're remaking Math Fun. Ultimate Question? I mean really? 🤣

Hey Tommy, I just found a comment from a random Youtube user:

I think this is an interesting question: do you think the original Intellivision controllers were too complex, using so many buttons? Will the remakes of these games use less buttons?

EDIT: Oh wow! It looks like the user is coincidentally an AtariAge user... It's weird that in Youtube he speaks negatively about "the Amico fans" and in AtariAge he only posts in an Amico thread, but I won't criticize that because I believe in freedom of speech and that everyone should waste their time and lives as they like. ❤️🌈🎈

How lucky we are to be able to concentrate our energy in things that we like.

It's funny how when someone else posts other portion of  people qoutes(like Tommy's/mine) without knowing what was said before or after and what led to that . Get's a like or an added negative comment by this person. But when something like that is done to one of their quotes they  get their back all up.. None of them are fooling anybody or this community what their real intent is around our little corner of AA and the reasons they are hanging around these parts. We have never seen this many fake two faced people around here.  Anybody for Bacon or Taco's this morning... lmao...

About the original controller, In my opinion Most game never really utilized all the buttons. Plus most games were slow enough to use in game play...

For me I never really understand all the hipe over drift racing. But I'm more of a muscle car person.. Owned Several Z28  and remember the days of street racing.. We used to have people watching at several points up the road with CBs watching for blue and white..   But usual we would get a good couple hours before we got the warning to disband.. Good Times....

Drifters generally don't race. They get judged on their techniques and how close they can get to objects without touching. So it's more of a talent contest as opposed to a traditional street race competition.

It originated in Japan & their car manufacturers never really got into the muscle/pony car making, so it's mostly RX-7s, Supras, Nissan Z cars, A few Skylines/GTRs, Silvias (US equal 240SXs) and Corolla GTS coupes that do it. As long as it's a stick shift & RWD and roughly a 50/50 weight ratio, it's usually a good drift car. Mustangs are too front heavy. Not good for drifting.

A few drivers use 3 Series Bimmers as well.

@Tommy Tallarico any plans for A Boy And His Blob type game?

That'd be great. You could have the list of jelly beans on the touch screen and flick them towards the screen to feed them to blob

Yeah, there's lots of cartridges that don't use the keypad at all, or maybe for a third action e.g. hyperspace in Defender.  Others use it more for UI and less for action e.g. Utopia, Sea Battle, Treasure of Tarmin, NFL, PGA.  Others like B17, Sub Hunt, Bomb Squad, Space Battle, MLB, NBA really use the keypad as a set of action buttons and they have a bit of a learning curve.

But games like AD&D, Night Stalker, Deadly Discs, turn the intellivision keypad into a second dpad rather than a bunch of buttons.

LOVE that idea!!!  Really good one.  I don't think I've ever seen anything like that before... and would be cool to see all the different creatures/ghosts/folklore/hoaxes, etc.

Epic!!!

Here's my "interview" with Tommy. It's not really an interview. It's just two guys talking shit.

Yo!,

Thanks for the interview!  Was fun to talk to a fellow retro lover and of course... member of AA!

You should tag the video with the word Intellivision and Amico (other good ones are "retro" and of course... "Atari").  More people will eventually see it when they search.

Thanks again!

That’s a strange stretch you’re taking there. That’s not what I was implying. I think you guys are becoming a little too sensitive. I was simply stating a fact and early on one of the arguments Amico fans had about modern controllers was that they had too many buttons when a game in 1982 was utilizing  about 12 buttons. Nowhere did I imply anybody was a hypocrite :)

Whats negative is bringing in comments I made outside of this forum in order to cause some strange drama between members. That’s in no way directed at you mr_me.

Woah! Woah! Woah there "guy"... you should just "chill"... "bud".

Here, let me find you some tired old meme pic of a crashed train... or better yet... a yawning animal!  Oh no... wait!  I got it!!  BACON!!!!  Yeah... even better.

You don't get to comment back and give your side if someone quotes you.  God! It's so annoying!!

I mean... I like you... but you're just not presenting yourself in a very good light here.

Stop trying to derail this thread.

You best be careful or a mod may just come here and threaten to have you removed for making a respectful counter-point to someone who quoted you.

So... um... what kind of racing game does everyone want to see on Amico?

======================================================

That was an experiment.  I just wanted to let you know how you guys look to me over in the "other" thread.

:D

There was a series of games I loved for the original Xbox called Fatal Frame, which was like a first-person shooter, only instead of you shooting weapons, you had only an old vintage camera with a mystical ability to capture images of ghosts. It was a very scary series of games, set in Japan, where you explored creepy places and when ghosts appeared, you could fend them off by capturing their image with a camera. Very cool concept. I know that's not the type of game that Amico would carry, but I thought the concept of using a camera as your only "weapon" was a cool change from traditional first-person shooters.

Fatal Frames were great. Had a good feel to them and was different for a survival horror game. Story? Eh it was the atmosphere that was cool.

Here are my thoughts on the subject.

The original Intellivision having so many buttons in the early 80's (and the way they were utilized) was pretty revolutionary at the time because it gave an entirely new way to play and control games on a home video game console.  And of course... having the overlays really helped.  Was it more complex than the simple Atari joystick and one button... or the hundreds of paddle game consoles that came before it?  ABSOLUTELY!!  But at the time... it was pretty revolutionary and something that moved the industry forward in terms of what was capable for game design and input/controls for a home console.  Complex yes... did it turn off certain people because of it?  Absolutely.  I can remember my grandparents playing Poker & Blackjack... and that was it.  Maybe they tried Skiing once or twice (at the coaxing of my mom).  They wanted to try because it gave them a different kind of "play time" with me as opposed to the regular card or board games we would typically play.  But in the end... the technology for them was too complicated.  Such a shame... I would have LOVED to have more memories of playing video games with my grandparents.

The thing to know about Amico and the controller now is that those 12 buttons have now been replaced by 1.  And that 1 "button" can be seen and read with the information/input.

The Amico controller is much easier to use than the original.  Not only from a feeling standpoint... but from a multiple input device as well (motion controls, lit up buttons & disc, speaker/microphone etc.).  Those are all things that make the gaming experience more easy for non-gamers.  I only wish my grandparents were around to help me "test" the new system.

😥

Wow!  That's awesome!  Those must be really hard shots to get because of the motion, etc.  You a Canon or Nikon guy?  I've always been Canon.

Fun Fact:  Intellivision CFO Nick Richards was a national drift racing champion!  Owned his own team as well and competed (and won) at the very highest levels.  He was also the national Porsche Cup Champion in 2008!

He is a super successful CFO who sold his last company for over $150M.  Racing and fast cars have always been a hobby and passion.  If any of you watched the Jay Leno's Garage show, Nick is the one we all point to when Jay asked who the best driver is!  Nick & I actually met in the Ferrari Club a number of years ago.  If not for meeting Nick... I don't think Amico would exist.  He's the "money" guy and one of the best I've ever met!  (and he's my only friend who can beat me in car racing).

:)

Those were shot with a Nikon D5200 mostly at 1/1000th sec. But to get the wheel motion (like on the BMW shot) I had to stop it down and shutter priority at 1/20sec or longer. I was learning that day. Manual focus is usually necessary.

I'm brand agnostic. I have shot most brands. I chose the Nikon system because the hand grips fit me better than Canon, but there's no discernible difference in image quality among the major brands, except for Leica and Hasselblad.

Lately I've been favoring Panasonic Lumix m43 format6 because of the size and weight of their equipment & glass.

Controller:  We know the Amico is primarily targeting those 3 billion casual gamers.  But as Tommy has confirmed and as we’ve seen from the announced games (and even that awesome night stalker video), it will cater to other types of gamers too via some more hardcore games.

so I don’t know about you guys but I’m presuming not all games will have 1 or 2 input “buttons”.  If the game demands an intellivision style overlay system, and an RPG would certainly fit that category which the touch screen would be perfect for it, then I gather they will use it.

I don’t think it’s a bad idea to get some of those questions in but personally I’m surprised people seem so stringent and question something like this.  Not every decision is so absolute you know; there will surely be exceptions to every “rule”.

Regarding the original's use of the 12 key pad on certain games, we should keep in mind that Intellivision's release predated Mac's GUI system by 5 years and that's just the way it was done before 1984.

I use the Lumix as well!  Great and compact 4K if you can get the damn focus to... well... STAY IN FOCUS!!   Any hints or secrets you can share?  It's the camera I've used a few times to shoot some of the high quality video (that you'll also see sometimes get out of focus!).  :)

The other Intellivision Entertainment co-founder David Perry is an amazing portrait photographer!  Check out his Instagram page:  https://www.instagram.com/davidperryphotography/

He has a few Hasselblads!  And some incredible lenses.  Also Canons and others.  Different cameras for different types of scenes (as I'm sure you know!).
