Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Yes.  That is the main reason we have the SD.  For more internal storage.

I personally would like this option so that we could play additional original Intellivision games that are not being sold in packs.

Not sure if TJ&E will be on launch.  That is the idea... but won't know til later in the summer.

Just watched the R-Type Final 2.  It's beautiful.

But if I'm being honest... our hardware wouldn't be able to pull that off which such a smooth frame-rate.  Just not designed to handle that much 3D and lighting fx at once.  We could probably get close if we baked in the backgrounds... but something like that is better suited for the powerhouse machines.

No rush for ToeJam & Earl, but looking forward to seeing those guys again. I wonder which of the other TJ&E games it will be most like. Where did the idea to bring those guys back come from? I certainly wasn't expecting them to ever show up again, but I am glad they are coming back. Now I've just learned that there was another game released in March, too. Crazy.

I had a feeling there would be no Amico R-Type Final 2. Oh well. Still have Switch version coming in the mail eventually.

We may show a little of it at E3.  Not sure at this point.  Not sure how many games will be playable at E3 as we don't know how many machines we're going to have.  I'm hoping at least 10.... but it's still WAY up in the air at this point.

B-17 Bomber might be a shock to the haters if you showed it at E3. I mean, it's a WW2 game where you drop bombs to blow up factories and airports and also shoot down German fighters who are trying to kill you. I don't expect a photo-realistic B-17 interior with you playing in first person running around the aircraft manning all of the machine guns and opening the bomb bay doors and dropping the bombs (especially since there were definitely more than 2 dudes on a B-17 at once), although that would be pretty awesome. It's kind of... not exactly the family-friendly Amico thing I generally think of. Unless you have like cartoon B-17 Bomber in the style of Battlefield Heroes or something like that. Not sure how much I'd like that, but I wouldn't dismiss it at all based on the art style. Wind Waker is perfectly fine.

Speaking of cartoon violence, how about Worms? Team 17 puts Worms on every system there is anyway except 3DS for some odd reason.

Did I hear TJ?

Oh... wrong one....

Although an AmicoSanta game just in time for the holiday season is a good idea.

AmicoSanta racing towards chimneys before Christmas is over throwing... err I mean gently slipping an Amico under all the good little kiddies Christmas trees.

And for the bad kiddies.... an 2020 edition Atari VCS.... I ran out of coal so improvised.

😋😝

So I posted the picture of Herzog Zwei here along with Skiing the other day, and I think that a Herzog Zwei remake would be really awesome. Thoughts, Tommy? Maybe too complex, though.

For a fighting game - something simpler like Clayfighter (with Earthworm Jim of course) or a 3D Arena Spy vs Spy like discussed before is probably better.

I can't see a fighting game like Smash with Running Man and Frogger. All the other characters are pretty expensive licenses or obscure licenses. It also sounds like a nightmare to balance and patch and plan. Otherwise it'll just end up really simple, with each character having the same moves with a different coat of paint. Seems a bit niche for this kind of machine too.

I like that idea!!  Didn't even think of that!!  Just added it to the game design!!

:)

Maybe all tokens are colored running men, or should I say running men of color, who "run" to the squares that match the dice roll.

I'll just paste what I wrote in the other thread here:

"I just got another idea. If Tommy can't get the rights to Sonic, or even if he can, I'd like to see a 2D sprite-based Sonic clone starring the Running Man. He could run through worlds based on the old INTV games. So like you know how Sonic 3's Ice Cap has the snowboarding part? Same thing, but with skiing instead preceded/followed by the same exploratory high-speed platforming as Sonic. Each world would have its own special unique gimmick, like Sonic. Multiplayer would be split-screen racing, time trials, or maybe score attack. Basically Sonic Mania but with the Running Man."

Any chance of this, Tommy?

Just saw this. Looks like a good idea, but I don't see any reason why Amico wouldn't be able to get something like Sonic or Sonic Mania down the line.

A game flat out featuring Running Man and focusing on him would be cool though.

This is a pretty cool time to be a gamer.. All these super powerful boxes coming out. A laptop manufacturer tells the world that their $2000.00 Laptop will be more powerful than your $500.00 brand new console. I would certainly hope so. It seems like a new iteration of the same, but more powerful, stuff. Now with Backward compatibility! (An old Cartoon of Bloom County comes to mind about the Banana Jr.). Not sure what other new cool new features are being touted right now. Don't get me wrong, both (maybe all 3) updated/upgraded consoles sound great. Looking forward to all of them! But it does sound like the same thing, but prettier.

Then there is the Amico:

Just saw an interview with Tommy. Another one? Yes. He gets around. This is from a few weeks ago. Stressing the fun family (SAFE) play. Loved the exclusive info about tapping your friend's console with your controller( utilizing RFID) and instantly making all of your library available to play while you are there.  OK probably not INSTANTLY.. But close.  Not to mention the cool carrying case for the controller. And I'm sure there is more hidden stuff that Tommy is not telling us. MORE to come I suppose.

Like I said, it is pretty darned cool to be a gamer.

Now More info on TRON and TEMPEST please.. :)

Herzog Zwei is a great game but in the spirit of using a 2.5d engine, I would love even more to see a “Return Fire” remake or sequel.  What a fantastic game on the 3DO (and I think later on PSX), I found it to be really easy to get into yet still have enough complexity to keep the interest going.  It was one of the LAST couch coop/vs strategy games I’ve ever played and the Baron was an awesome dev (I wonder if he’s still around?).

Tommy: I know you aren’t a fan of split screen games but here’s hoping this type of game finds a home on your console.  Soooo much fun!

Your post got me thinking.. What was the last good Skiing/snowboarding game that was a blast to just pick up and play? They've become more skiing/snow boarding simulations now. Not just pick up and play. Not that I mind those. Just like there is a place for Gran Turismo sitting right beside Ridge Racer on the virtual shelves.

*** Here's to hoping the Skiing game will have a Randomizer level so we can have a new adventure each time we play *** Along with all the set courses, of course.

Random Fire (and RF Maps o' Death) were amazing games!!! YES!!!!! Yes it was on the PSX as well.

I'm going to toss in a random game I hope gets updated for Amico when I post stuff.  Tommy can feel free to confirm or deny any plans :)

Random hopeful update: Zaxxon.

Some more questions for you, Tommy. First, R-Type. I know it has not been started yet, but what is the vision for it, if you are allowed to share that much? Enhanced arcade port? Something with polygons like R-Type Dimensions? What about R-Type Final 2? I got to play a demo of it at Tokyo Game Show. There isn't much of a game so far, but it looks nice.

Been a couple of days since I read this, so happy belated BD Tommy. Get better!

Anyhow... FINALLY!!!! Someone with REAL taste in games appeared in this thread!😆

Seriously though, glad to see another R-Type fan in our midst! 🤗

The only one of that type of game I had fun playing was Wave Race for N64. Even it's sequel on the Gamecube lacked in the fun factor.

I think you'll be happy with R-Type Final 2. It's extremely impressive in person, and the Youtube videos don't capture this. Too bad Amico R-Type Final 2 is probably not realistic, but I hope Amico R-Type is as good or better than Dimensions is.

Tommy,

Will we see any of these games on the Amico?  Of course it depends on licensing.  But if possible it would be cool to have all 4.

Buck Rogers (top down or side scroller)

Flash Gordon (top down or side scroller)

G.I. Joe (action platformer)

Godzilla (1 on 1 fighting motion controls)

Hi Tommy...love that this is coming along. Got our Intellivision shirts from the store. Wondering when we can start using our Golden Tickets that came with our t-shirts and if we use the Amico Club App...how so...do you think Intellivision can make a "how to" video and post it?

Cheers :)

I know so many people are excited for reimaginings of classic old games, but I think I'm now more excited to see what new original games come out for Amico.  What new classics are going to be created?  Indie devs have come out with some really interesting things over the past few years and I can't wait to see what they come up with using the new controller.

ommy,

How about a Marble Run game on Amico where you have to guide the marble through different obstacles using motion controls.

I'd rather have something like Marbula One Racing.  Its shouldnt be so cool , but watch the video and tell me its not cool
