Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

You are so mysterious !! Lol ok so I will guess Pong and Burger Time !!

I don't think so.   Those 2 games were in my list, and I got only one.

So it's probably Pong and Cornhole.

By the way, Auto Racing has change a lot since the last trailer !

Also, I am guessing that Ecco and Night Stalker will not be in Tuesday's trailer.

Night Stalker we already saw two levels with gameplay, so why should we see more ?

And Ecco, probably not a launch title, it was just a teaser, so I don't think we will see more of it.

I am really curious for Skiing ( 7 levels ! Ski cross !?  😊  )

Curious about Astrosmash. Could have change a bit.

Also curious for Moon Patrol. Seeing different scenery is not something we have really been used to in the past with this game ! 🙄

It's a shame that Amico is not already in our hands, because with what is happening it is very difficult to find activities to do with family !

My son's school is closed for 2 weeks.  Events for more than 250 participants have been canceled, etc.

So it's really appreciate to have some teasing from you (like Auto Racing ) while we are waiting and "twiddled our thumbs". Thank you Tommy.

Was it that bad? I think he was misguided and full of malarkey himself, but maybe I'm not up on all the rules here.  Maybe he was too harsh in his rebuttal?  Personally, I agree that the industry is driving itself into the ground and not even realizing it.  They're doing the classic mistake of just making the same thing over and over but doing it faster and better looking. That will keep the traditionalists happy, but doesn't move the needle forward.

I'm really excited to see how this all plays out.

OH, and Tommy, I got my hat and coffee mug.  Wow!  Really high quality, and the color changing mug is really awesome.  Great job!

He made some pretty good points I thought to respond to, regarding mobile, entertainment, good art rising to the top, characterizations of the industry, perception of mobile..  I didn’t think the guy (..) and I were as far apart as maybe he picked up, perhaps missed some of what I was saying about a sustainable long-term model.  Which was a 6 am post so definitely could’ve been better crafted.  Anyway, I welcomed his rebuttal, it’s a discussion I’d like. Wouldn’t change many minds per se, but there’s an important conversation on gaming in there.

.. Also caught the personal insults.  If you want to skip ahead in an argument, go straight at the person making the argument.

So I held off.  My first instinct was to come back swinging on the personal slights.  I’d no doubt be kicked for far worse things said (my Italian New Yorker side would be beyond gratified, but most of you might just be looking for a “Well... that escalated quickly” GIF).

It just doesn’t further anything beyond egos.  Friendly reminder to step away if needed, keep it civil, stick to the points you want to make.  Jay runs a tight ship.

Considering @Guy has been permanently banned and jaybird3rd wrote his name between quotation marks, and also taking into account that @Guy is a "new user" that, coincidentally, only posts in this particular thread, with a suspicious first message that said "remember when Tommy said that we should chill the f**k out?", I would assume @Guy was somebody's second account.

Who's that somebody, you'll ask? Well, somebody banned from this topic, somebody who has shown in the past that he's unable to leave this topic, somebody obsessed with Tommy Tallarico, somebody obsessed with defending mobile gaming from our "attacks" and somebody with a great experience launching personal attacks thinking that the mods will not care because he's a subscriber. I seem to remember somebody like that with an avatar based on a Dreamcast dancing game, but I'm not really sure.

Not that I really care all that much, but I wanted to give my two cents before a real new user reads this and, as it happened before, thinks the mods are removing messages and banning users for no reason.

Back to the Amico: Tommy, that racing game looks totally Mashed/Drive to Survive. I'm looking forward to see the rest! 👍

If you didn't know they can track posts IP address activity. Not everything is some conspiracy. It would be like saying your account is just someone else's second account to drum up more positive comments (which it isn't).

Let mods do their job. Accusations are only going to stir up drama.

I got the impression the figure 8 race game with cars crashing from the teaser was a different game than auto racing reimagined. But maybe those are different modes within the same game.

How about some positive and happy news for the world right now!

Intellivision is happy to announce that next Tuesday, March 17th we will be releasing a brand new 3 minute gameplay trailer highlighting 22 games!

Almost half of which have never before been seen or talked about. Oh look! Here's one now!  1f642.png

That looks like some fine Super Sprint action there. Can't wait for Tuesday!

Shout out to @RetroAdvisoryBoard For his well crafted post about the Amico and the video game industry in general...its well worth the read.

I'd add to that each year i see more and more folk identifying themselves as casual gamers opposed to hardcore gamers. I see less consoles being sold in general to 10 years ago and more and more Mobile is picking up steam. Myself i buy less and less AAA titles and more and more Indies...and its the Indies that are really stealing my heart...things like Cuphead, Gris, and Ori are just works of art. Amico's model allows family's to play together and the price point of $10 means you can put a new game on the console every 2 weeks without threatening your budget.

Cheers All :)

Really RetroAdvisoryBoard! You already have the script all you need is a cheap/free video editor (heck even PowerPoint can make videos) and drop a slide show of the consoles and maybe some Amico clips in there. Less than $50 will get you a decent mic (Yeti Snowball is pretty good) and away you go. PM me if you need any advice / help if you are interested in doing this. I work with a lot of this stuff making tech trainings and can get you started at least.

Thanks GrudgeQ (and Intellimission who suggested the same).

I do have Premiere Pro and Davinci Resolve, some practice using either, I kind of casually brought up back in Dec that I was working on a video response after the latest CUPodcast segment.. It’s been slow.  Reworked a script a few times to de-emphasize their take, and address more broadly the Amico’s disc.  38.5 minutes of audio, several hundred clips trying to match the points as I’m rarely on camera - making that an estimated 1 hr 05 min video.  ...On a disc.  🙂  Working on onscreen graphics, sourcing clips, a few charts and designed graphics (teaching myself Illustrator for that).. It’s coming along, but that type of video is edit-intensive.

This however is more a talking-head type video - mostly opinion and statements, not reference or instructive, really doesn’t need much visual - maybe a few reference clips, graphics re: publishers.  9-10 minutes of audio by my dry runs, shouldn’t need too much adjustment.  I’ll record when my kids go to bed tonight.

Thank you for the encouragement though.  Really.

Is there going to be any use of the pressure sensitivity function being used as the throttle with the auto racing game? On paper it sounds really cool but just wondering if you guys have experimented with it.

Not familiar with that game.  I'll need to check it out.

I can't believe you are not familiar with Star Raiders!  Overall, it's similar to Space Spartans which I prefer because of the voice in the game.  I always loved to hear the startup "Intellivision Presents....SPACE SPARTANS!"  Shortly followed by "Hello Commander, computer reporting."

So having been on an intense job hunt these past weeks, have I missed anything?  I confess to skipping 45 pages of posts.

Probably a meeting with him soon ? 😊

Yep, it's Auto Racing; check out the name of the image in the URL!

I was wondering the same thing about the steering controls, as well. The Amico disc is also pressure sensitive, so I wonder if that will be used in some way. I don't exactly enjoy pressure sensitive button/d-pad controls thanks to MGS2 and 3, but I imagine they can probably be done well. I don't know of any other PS2 or PS3 games that actually use the pressure sensitive buttons aside from Top Gun Combat Zones and the Metal Gear HD collection, though, so my experience with pressure sensitive buttons is limited.

Rogue Squadron 2 and 3 on the Gamecube as well as the Gamecube version of Top Gun Combat Zones used the pressure sensitive shoulder buttons, but those shoulder buttons have a huge amount of travel, and the Gamecube L and R have way more analogness (not sure what else to call it) than the PS2/PS3 d-pad and face buttons.

Tommy, I just noticed that the resolution of this picture is 2560 × 1432! Is that the game's actual resolution?

No.  All games are 1080.  But I have a 4K laptop so I screen grab at 4K & 300 dpi to ensure quality on higher resolution machines.

Same with the new trailer.  You'll be able to pick 4K if you'd like.  Even though the material is 1080, if you have a 4K screen, monitor, laptop the 4K version will look a lot better and less compressed than the normal 1080 version.  I did a few tests today on this and it looks much better if you can afford the bandwidth or are willing to let the 4K version load.

You will see Night Stalker & Ecco.  Different video from the other one... and for Ecco... and longer running shot that shows something interesting about co-op.  :)

No Ski Cross in Skiing for the trailer.  Still working on getting the camera angles just right.

4 levels for Astrosmash now!!

Correct.  The figure 8 game is different than Auto Racing.  We will show that game in the new trailer as well... AND we're doing an extended MEET AMICO video on that game also.

We showed Auto Racing in the Gamescom trailer as well... which is probably what he was referring to (as it has changed a lot!).

:)
