Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

I'm not sure where it started.  But yeah... if I had to guess... I'm assuming it was with Sony and Microsoft as they had zero experience in the game industry but all the money in the world (because of other products/companies they own etc.) to buy into it.  Very different from companies like Sega & Nintendo.

We're seeing the same thing happening with Google & the Stadia right now.  Google has spent HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of dollars to create the infrastructure to what they believe is the future of gaming.  Eventually I fear... everything will move to digital.  The only thing we all may be buying in 7 years from now is a controller to hook up to the internet.  Will be interesting to see if Google's gamble will pay off.  I'm guessing that they will not do well this round.  Whether or not they keep taking the loss until it's ready for folks to abandoned what they know.. is anyone's guess.  They certainly have the wallets to do it.  But will they have the patience?  I think they'll keep trying for at least the next year or two.  After that... things like shareholders, ROI (Return on Investment) and account spreadsheets start to matter.

Will definitely be an interesting next couple of years in gaming and hardware... that's for sure!

well when that happens i'm out i hate streaming games

Still working that out.  There are positives and negatives for this and something that could be added down the road.

One of the big things that sometimes throws huge timeline wrenches into a project is the addition of "feature creep".  Trying to do too much all at once.  Currently we have the avatars under the feature creep category as it is something that isn't needed for success... but something that could be a cool addition.  More often than not, the feature creep type of stuff won't make it in the initial launch of the product... but could easily be implemented down the road.

yup adding too many features is what delayed and killed the Intellivision III

Re-post from Facebook, thoughts?

.........

So I have a marketing idea. Call me crazy.

At some point this summer, Intellivision will have a reveal of something, no? A trailer with more game details, more gameplay, some scheduled reveal. It's been a drip release of new content, so assuming that continues for 6 mos.

(Assuming we're no longer in self-isolation) What if, from across the globe, some of us who are willing to do so, can pull in a group of friends, or coordinate with local fellow members here in this group or other groups - we film clips of us together for watch parties for that particular Amico reveal... just a cell phone on a $15 tripod, let Intellivision do the edits or source it out amongst several of us. Intellivision then has footage of hundreds (thousands?) of us reacting to the reveal if we want to share that (I guess up to guests/each other if we want to share).

Each viewing party can have some quick 3-4 second quip, "Hey Intellivision, You think Brooklyn's not gonna give you some love? Fugheddaboudit!" "Chicago loves Amico!" "Hey Amico, Montreal veut etre ton ami!" "Hey Amico, Los Angeles checking in, let's play already!".

It costs us basically nothing, shows massive grassroots interest in Intellivision.. probably several of us could meet up for an afternoon, which could be kinda cool.. imagine if they could then show THAT footage on Ellen or the Today Show? As someone might be inclined to say, Wouldn't That Be Something? [Trademark may/may not be pending]

I agree. That’s exactly why some products get delayed and delayed or never come to market. Add this feature , Take away that , tweak that etc can go forever. There is no such thing as perfection. Do the best you can and lock it down and save the rest for Amico 2 !!

I know Beauty and the Beast re-imagined will make it's way to the Amico. I hope they plan on doing Tropical Trouble re-imagined also. One of my favorite games.

I don't know if yous guys remember the "Satanic Panic" from the late 70s/early 80s.

You know, the subliminal messages played backwards on heavy metal albums, Dungeons & Dragons was a gateway to Satan worship, Disco led to "Hommasaxshul Depraaavitee", etc.

This game came under attack from some of the "Great Tribulation" types back then, because simply uttering the word "Demon" conjured up evil spirits to make us vote Democrat.😲

Ahhh a certain actor got a good role in a DnD Satanic Panic movie - Mazes and Monsters. My mom had me see a Dr. at one point when I played it like 2 times.  If you haven't seen this.. I'm sure it's somewhere on the interwebs.

Tommy you are promoting this stuff!!! Get those demons off me!!!

How will physical media work on the amico and will the pack in games be physical or digital?

Full disclosure on physical media is being saved for the summer/E3 live stream in June. The six pack-in games will be on internal storage.

with regard to marketing, the virus I would think makes it a little challenging as to when they now push the campaign out as they have to know how many units they can produce for Q4 before they adjust their marketing budget. They do have some heavy weights in the game biz on staff so dont expect some grassroots type marketing campaign, when they start the marketing, it will be very professional and likely very well done.  The issue is, you dont want to spend your marketing wad if your only gonna be able to produce 50k units for q4 which will likely sell with or without a major marketing campaign. So they may decide to keep their powder dry and hold back most of marketing until they can actually produce and move units.

Was the 3 supposed to just be another refresh of same system or something new?

Reposting to this for the below reason as I just got to it. As I read through this thread I took note of pages with videos so I could come back and watch/listen them as time allowed.  Speaking of which, was the video on page 1 taken down?

Anyway, the purpose of my post - I started this video with my AirPods on while I started dishes.  This busted me up laughing, but at the same time a little “creepy”

So AC, since you seem to have a knack at predicting future events, you taking the over or under on my prediction of total sales for Amico?  Hint (not that you may need it), My predicted number is a lot...

Just curious as to what part you thought was a bit creepy???

You guys still maintain the rights to the original watercolor box artwork for Mattel Electronics/APh games?

If not, what about tons of Running Man figures.. "Better with Friends"

The air puffer from Buzz Bombers.. "Play It, Don't Spray It"

Just the Dragon from Thunder Castle on a dark green shirt would be cool.

What about having an image of the Amico console on shirt/mug?  Or perhaps an image of the Amico controller on a shirt/mug.  Also, for a character what about EWJ merchandise?  I assume we won't see that until we get closer to the games release.

Other ideas for shirts and mugs:

  • Intellivision Amico Together Again
  • Wouldn't That Be Something

The part that you state that the listener is probably washing dishes while listening, cause that is exactly what I was doing when you said that.
