did you go online with your Atari 800xl? getting a modem for mine changed my life in the mid 80s :)

Nope. But I did for my 520ST in 1987. It was a Hayes 1200 baud modem I bought at The Computer Bug up in Hadley,Ma. I think it was like $150! Good times on the Pocket Protector BBS.

just shows their ignorance to the industry.  The whole reason Im here is because of the devs, including Tommy.  Its a who's who of industry greats if you actually, you know, know the history of gaming.

I think their just skeptical of anyone releasing something new in the same market as Nintendo,Sony and Microsoft. They grew up on Nintendo, hate Sony and own Xbox now. Don't worry, I've invited them over to play once I get an Amico.

Smart man!

I love my ST, but I wish I did the same. I would have saved tons of $$....I spent so much on my ST in 1986 just to realize I needed the tools (programs) the Amiga had. Switched to Amiga in 1991.

Are they fairly hard core gamer parents? I see a number of online e-zines that cater to gamers are leaning towards the P&I side of things, going so far as suggesting families might be better off getting a Switch, Wii U or Wii. I understand kids love getting used, second hand items for Christmas presents.

Both Xbox guys, just like me. Both play mostly single player games. I don't know if you'd call them hardcore. Hardcore is so difficult to define nowadays. 😕

Would be great to walk into (love to do this, damn pandemic) Barns&Noble and see the Amico on the cover!

I did the same. The Amiga was easily the best computer I have ever had for its time. Bought it in 1985 with 512kb of ram and monitor for $1800. Also had one at work using it for database and cad. My workmates always came in my office and made fun of its mouse. No real computer used a mouse. 😃

Over 50 is old, which is bad in general  to people under 35.

It's even worse to hiring managers.

Yes. Of course age discrimination doesn't exist! Everything is wonderful in our free market lives.🙄

Trust me: these two are hardcore gamers, even if they are parents. Tommy is marketing for their parent side, but he can't do anything if their Nintendo brand loyalty and preference for solitary experiences wins over.

Ok! Then it's official! Everybody who liked Lion King or sang Hakuna Matata is GAY... even in the shower!😜

I mean, I'd just say "You got me" if I listed titles like 'Shaving Ryan's Privates', 'Drill Bill' or 'I Know Who You Blew Last Summer'.

Good ideas. I just don’t like losing a life by using hyperspace and appearing beside an asteroid with no time to get away from it. I believe this happened in Defender as well. It’s SUPER aggravating as makes hyperspace more luck than skill. Some type of shield would fix it. Either replacing the hyperspace function with a shield like Asteroids Deluxe, or as you said, having some type of force field for a short time after using hyperspace. This is something to seriously consider please. Your thoughts Tommy ?    😀😀😀

Love that idea!

It reminds me of Astrosmash ! lol

I hardly ever played Asteroids, I didn't like the control and the graphics. (Today I understand it's a nice touch to add the retro graphics to the reimagined game)

There are two possibilities in my opinion.

1) Used a shield, which loses more and more of its effectiveness when used. (Until not able to use it anymore)

During contact, the vessel should drift a little from its trajectory because of the collision ( depending of the size of the asteroid.)

2) By using hyperspace, when we reappear, the "force field" used should destroy everything within a small given perimeter.

(witch give us half a second to react)

That's my 2 cents ! 😉

We are working on something very similar!

Tommy,

Any update on Snafoo?  When is the new merchandise going to be in the IE shop?  The 25% off coupon expired 4/30.  But you said you would extend that if the new stuff wasn't ready by 4/30.

Yep!  Been rebuilding it!  Hopefully will be able to show you the new version over the next few months.  Went in a completely different graphic direction after we weren't happy with the current direction it was going and then did a few focus tests to confirm.  Really LOVE the new style.  Less hardcore/serious looking and more fun/funny/family looking.  A perfect example of us having the dedication and commitment to ensure quality.

We are behind on the new merch stuff.  With everything else going on, it's literally at the very bottom of our "to do" list.  Sorry.  It will be coming at some point... don't worry.  Was hoping to have folks free by the end of April but too many way more important things kept popping up.  But don't worry as we will absolutely turn the 25% off coupon back on for the VIP & Founders folks when there is a slew of new merch up.  We plan to do it all at once (not one item at a time).

Thanks for your patience and sorry for the delay.

Tommy here's a question.  If the Amico becomes a big as we all think it will he. Do you think its possible there will be a AmicoCon every year?  Lol. Like Blizzcon

Id be down with that.

That would be pretty awesome!!

I'd LOVE to get to be that big!  I really LOVE this idea and hadn't really thought about it before.

I'm going to add this to my Vision Board immediately!  Would be so cool to have everyone here come out!  We'd have a special AA Forum party!!

Would be a really cool family experience weekend too!  Would be really unique I think!  Love this idea!!

p.s.  I know that when I went to the Portland Retro Game Expo a few years ago... that @nurmix had met up with a bunch of folks from here and I remember seeing an Atari Age area at the show!  It was about 6 months before I started posting here (was only a lurker before that) so I didn't go up to anyone at the AA booth and introduce myself unfortunately.  And although I wasn't able to hang out with Paul (Nurmix) and others that night (I believe they went out to eat) because I had to work on my big presentation the follow day... I DID get the awesome opportunity to meet a few of the folks in here.  I can't even remember which of you I met because I only remember your faces and not your handles from in here!!  I definitely remember meeting @Lathe26!  Who else met me in Portland that week??

Yes, cuz Steve Buscemi and William Macy are such gorgeous hunk bods. 🤣

My 3rd was The Fugitive.

Gimme a break! There were only about 25 movies available in the first 2 months. LOL

My GOTO 1st new movie media experience has ALWAYS been The Fifth Element!  It always seems to be the demo they have and play (the Diva singing/Leeloo kicking ass scene).  DVD, Blu-Ray, Ultra 4K, Ultra 4K w/Dolby Atmos... I literally think I have probably 10 different versions of that movie in every and all formats (even the Europe versions as they had different extras).  Tin box, alternative covers, etc., etc... it's the only movie that I have in ever single format and will buy new every time there is a new version.

Others like that for me is Raiders of the Lost Ark, TRON & Tombstone.  Could watch those (along with The Fifth Element) multiple times and still enjoy them.  All the Rocky movies, Lord of the Rings & Star Wars are up there as well (for multiple versions on different platforms).

Some excellent choices there!  Original TRON, Legacy, or both? 🙂

HA! You need to be less cutting edge.. I still have Raiders and Empire (Can't find Star Wars) on CED! Video Records, they will be the next big thing! I also have a few different version of the Original Trilogy on Laserdisc! 3 discs each movie. You had to be committed to watch something then. I played them a little while back and it was very nice not seeing Ewoks blink. :)

Looking forward to the next announcement!
