Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Today former president Keith Robinson would have turned 65 years old.  Keith kept the Intellivision dream alive for over 20 years as president and first started working on Intellivision in 1981!

He is sadly missed by the many people who knew him and worked with him.

Here's a really nice video that one of our supporters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia made and released today in honor of Keith's birthday.

Here's to Keith on his Birthday!  Everyone that has one, should be wearing their Running Man shirt!

Happy Birthday Keith!!

No I'm already having a difficult time want to throw down $500 on the series x to play halo infinite when they said you can play it on current consoles.  So for now I'm good with my 1 x. I will say if the series  s is focusing on streaming games then the 1440p makes sense because most internet cant handle full 4k gaming on the stadia.

Hell I just barely can handle online play on my 1 x with my internet.  I had to pay for 2 services so my wife and son could play all at the same time.  If your internet isnt fast enough and you have more than 2 people in your home playing this next generation is going to see alot of angry customers.

I think microsoft is okay with that.  These guys don't make a whole lot of money selling hardware.  They are happy when people spend money on the games wherever and however that is.  Online play is more about latency than bandwidth, low latency like you get on a pure fibre connection is best.  If streaming, bandwidth needed is only about 5Mbps for 1080p, about 15Mbps for 1440p, and about 25 Mbps for 4k, and more for high frame rate.   But latency is separate from streaming bandwidth and problems can often be addressed with packet prioritization with a good router.

Definitely the Amico will undercut the new Xbox Series S at $299 and the Xbox Series X at $499.  No doubt about it.  However, keep in mind that MS is (I believe) still going to sell the Xbox One S as the low end option.  It currently is $299, so I think it is fairly likely that if (and a big one admittingly) MS keeps on producing the Xbox One S, then we could very well see a price cut down to $199 and maybe lower.  Again, that this is a big if and some speculation on my part.  But, a $199 or lower Xbox SKU could prove tempting for some at that price.  Just my thoughts.

Not too sure I've seen people with fiber 1 gig down having problems on stadia.  Im playing games I have actually downloaded so no streaming and I'm seeing the limits when it go from hd to 4k. Streaming has to be even worse.

Just got an idea: how about a restaurant promotion for Amico? Something like Burger King (with that Impossible Whopper), or maybe Subway. It might make a cool kid's meal theme. And maybe there could be something for the grown-ups to munch on!

I agree, currently 4k and streaming dont go together. One of the reason these streaming/digital gaming machines are 1080s.  To be honest , 4k and 8k for gaming is kind of a waste, diminishing returns have kicked in, and to be honest the small jump in gaming clarity and so forth just isnt worth the potential hit to FPS IMHO. Sure in the next decade 8k running 120fps will be easily doable, but to be honest in the US, our tech infrastructure is so bad, I dont think we will be able to stream anything close to that reliability for several decades. The internet in the US is kinda sad.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but Tommy, I hope you guys are documenting everything on video as I for one would LOVE to see an Amico documentary when the console is a success. I think it would be a fantastic story :)

Exactly, internet speed is not the issue.  Any hiccup in that connection causes problems.

Tommy can you just send me my console now I don't want to wait any longer.

Well, as long as Tommy is making a mail run, I suppose I can take a moment to send my address to Intellivision HQ, too. I’d hate for him to stand in line to mail just one package.

Please, no USPS, though. Might not actually receive it until April 2021.

I've posted this before, but it seemed appropriate to post it here again today ...

I'm so glad that Keith and the others took the trouble to record this.  Here's hoping that the Amico version can successfully recapture the magic!
