and you arent an entry level gamer and so you arent the target demographic

Maybe true but that applies to the series x as well. Just to match my current storage I would have to spend $1200. Also there is alot of people that play games the are on going. Not a play finish and delete type of game. Plenty of parents are going to see the $299 price and quickly hear their children complaining theres not enough storage.  Thats all I'm saying.  My sons friends and the these teenagers are in for a rude awakening. Because they all play games that never end

The new series x and s requires you to use their proprietary drives to play the games. Those are $219 for 1tb

Are they not selling the new consoles at a loss? They gotta recoup that money somehow.

If someone has kids that quickly fill up the Series S's 512GB SSD, imagine how fast those kids would fill up the Amico's mere 32GB of flashstorage.
Go add up your install sizes for Fortnite, Apex, and Battlefront 2.  You're nowhere near 512GB

https://www.finder.com/xbox-one-every-game-installed

Here are some key stats from the above website.

Total GB of Every Game: 3666GB

Average Per Game: 10.24GB

Average Size of major publisher game: 16.9GB

Total install size of every indie Xbox One game: 440GB

Average Size of Indie Game: 2.6GB

So you could install every Xbox One indie title (lots of quality couch co-op games in there for $5-$15) and still have room left over for a couple of "AAA" titles before you needed to offload stuff to a cheap USB 3.0 drive.     And what "casual gamer" or little kid needs to have more than 100 indie games AND two AAA titles instantly available at the all times?  A kid who needs more than that and can't wait the two minutes it would take to copy a new AAA title from a big external drive to the fast SSD is not a kid who needs a bigger SSD, it's a kid needs a lesson in values and realistic expectations.

huh? where you buying your memory at?  1tb or even 2 TB of memory is dirt cheap these days. The Xseries is 200 more than the Series s. I would also think microsoft will give players options for cloud storage.

But the Microsoft proprietary expansion drives are $214 per drive so standard drives while cheaper can’t play the games only store them

they make the money up in years 3+. This stuff gets real cheap to make as the tech gets older but the retail console price remains pretty stable. They may lose money early but they make a killing in the later years.

How much room does the Xbox interface eat up of that hard drive space? Most of the videos I have seen say that the next gen games will be bigger in size and most people think around 3-5 games will be all you could have on your system at one time and to add space is $216 for the propriety hard drive for 1TB of added space unless you want to copy games back and forth off an external hard drive but not be able to play games off the hard drive.

As far as the Amico memory with available space after UI will hold 30-50 games with max games at a size of 1 gig per game and when extra space is needed a micro sad card is all you need which you can get a lot cheaper than$216 because you won’t need as much extra space

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... But what about the cloud? Maybe they want you to use the Series S with that, reducing the storage needs?

Sure but I can tell you when l went from my xbox one  to the X it made me have to pay for a 2nd service. Now I know many have better internet speed but most in this country dont especially in rural areas

Sure but whats the point. The whole idea is to have it be a faster experience.  Its not faster if you want to have a nice library of games. And your limited to moving games around all the time.  Then you know what happens next? That dreaded message right after you loaded that game pops up. "Update required"

Exactly...

My guess is the lower priced model is being introduced to steer folks toward xCloud.

I think Mr Softy cares less about hardware this generation(and future generations) and aims to become the Netflix of video game content.

I find it interesting to learn (after all these years) that many people had thumb-fatigue issues with the original Intellivision controllers "raised lip around the disc".

Personally, I never experienced any issues with the lip. I absolutely loved the OG Intellivision controllers except for one thing...

the tiny little side buttons. I will admit, they could have been designed A LOT better.

After the absolute enormous amount of hours playing Astrosmash as a kid. I am still in disbelief to this day that I do not possess a permanent side button indent on my index finger. lol

Speaking of fingers, can anybody give a rough estimation as to how many times the fire button is actually pressed during an epic Astrosmash run?

I to this day with my intellivision dont have any issues with the disk. But as for astrosmash and those pesky side buttons I had to resort to auto fire. My side buttons are freakishly stiff.

I was never a fan of the auto fire mode. I guess it's ok in the early game, but when things get frantic in the later levels you really need the timing and accuracy of manually firing to really excel in this game, imo.

Here's something that I've never seen before...

They also remade shark shark and night stalker.

Here's a couple of unofficial astrosmash remakes.

I'm excited about all 3 new systems coming out for different reasons. (one of those being the Amico).  We can sort of count the rumored Switch Pro as 4. But three confirmed.  And yes, I do consider the Amico as a new system. It will have new games along with remakes of older ones. (Retro Re imagined). I know that I'll be spending more money on storage.

Adding to your your numbers:

Remember 512GB doesn't equal 512GB of usable space. You end up with 465GB after just formatting. (give or take a little).

1 new AAA title like the new COD uses 140GB.

Also don't forget there is space that is "reserved" that Microsoft does not let you use. Depending on who you talk to it is around 120-130GB.  There is half of the space of your internal drive.

You still get quite a bit of room for indi type games. But moving forward with new AAA games. Not much else.

We won't even go into trying to build an external drive system that can hold ALL of the Xbox games. We still don't know the average size of the new games. Going by the above numbers, 2x18TB drives almost covers it and an external storage option would be about $1400.00. That is using Spinning 3.5" drives. To keep the speed up and go the SSD route,  the costs go totally crazy.

For the new Xbox, using the proprietary drives to keep the speed up, is kind of up in the air at the moment. But I know that price will come down.

If I were to install 350 games on the Amico would be less than $200.00. This is with using a 1TB Name Brand SSD. With little or no loss of speed. We know that games will be between 512MB to 1Gig for AAA titles. So plenty of room to grow.

For the Sony PS5 doing something close is kind of an unknown at the moment. But I would suspect more to the Xbox side than Amico.

There is no "install" option for the switch. (That could be fixed with a firmware update). So you would have to go all digital. BOOOOO. Right now.. The only option is a Big ol' Micro SD card. Right now about $80.00 would get you a name brand card off of Amazon. sized at 512GB.  I don't count those cards on Wish and other places. :)

I can see myself buying all the new systems eventually. AND having fun with all 4 (or 5) . I already enjoy the current gen line up. Full disclosure. I play the PS4 more than the Xbox One. Mostly for VR. I look forward to what that will bring in the upcoming generation of games. And the switch rules all as I play that more than the other two. I can envision playing the Amico just as much as the Switch. Especially if it scratches that nostalgia itch. Plus I'm intrigued by what new things we'll see.  Looking forward to it all!!!!

How about a music type game on Amico, where you play as either Tommy or Steve Tyler?   You can use the Amico controller as a mini guitar, lol.  But seriously, there could be a certain color on the controller and console that lights up.  Depending on the color, you would then press a button on the controller in order to match what's on screen.  Kind of like with Guitar Hero.

Just wait until we get the Guitar expansion!

Oh, wait... I wasn't supposed to mention that...

I've never heard of fatigue issues using the disc.  However, if you had an INTV2 like me, those side buttons are murder on your fingers!
