Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

I remember it's been said that people will be able to play the amico before they buy it. How is that gonna happen? I imagine having some kind of Booth or kiosk in a store would be expensive to rent out that space. Someone else can answer this if Tommy has already, I don't read this board that often.

When you do deals with retail partners those types of things can be negotiated into the deal.  Mall booths, different conventions, big sporting events, festivals, etc. are also all part of the plan.  Obviously with COVID a lot of those things could be affected.  No one knows where we'll be in Spring of 2021.  But we're perfectly okay to walk before we run.  We'll have at least a few years to bring it to the masses.  Soft launches are a part of doing business through COVID these days.

I know this has been mentioned already, but I gotta say I'm really surprised to find the haters in every single video, even during the live interviews that Tommy records.

Many of us here have preordered the Amico and, even if we don't blindly like/agree with 100% of what they do, support the console and want the team to be successful. For many of us here, the Amico is the only interesting console in 15 years... and we don't attend every single live interview! I rarely connect to a live interview, to be honest. And many of the haters do! It's incredible.

I just wanted to say this because, when I saw TonyTGD/TheGeekGetaway commenting on that live interview to try to have a gotcha moment (and failing), it was almost funny. I mean, it looked like some kind of parody, that situation fits better in a comedy movie with exaggerated attitudes from the characters.

Those handful of folks (most with confirmed multiple fake accounts) are obsessed stalkers and clearly have some personality and/or life issues going on.  They follow me around like puppy dogs watching, recording and reading every word I type.

Very flattering.

I throw them a few bones here and there just to ensure I keep their attention.

😉

(I'm kidding).

I guess Pat needs to find a new "hardware guy that knows about these things".

Ks1/Tony k is one of the original people who started turning me off the Amico all his homophobic insults and doing what we always complain they do using multiple accounts makes amico fans look toxic. I actually believe he himself is a hater doing it on purpose. People who support Amico don't want to call this out but I'm not afraid to say what we all know. And if you tell me they are not the same person then you yourself are being dishonest.

Doesn't it seem strange that you would be turned off to a video game console because someone else who you don't know has said things you don't agree with?

If that's the case... I'm guessing you may not have any video game consoles.

:)

I think its going to be difficult for in-person demos for awhile which sucks. Maybe there will be a combination of influencers and some in-person events. Covid has really upended a lot of things, especially the way people see and interact with newly launched products. Honestly, I don't see myself going to the mall or anything anytime soon with the current situation as it is. The company I work for is doing a lot more work with influencers and social media to drive product awareness and engagement, in addition to collaborating on curated content. We send product pre-launch to them and they do unboxing and demos, etc. This is more ramped up now with the pandemic.

Looks like Sony is doing some hands-on demos outside of the company, but mostly with gaming outlets. https://www.engadget.com/sony-ps5-hands-on-videos-182601211.html

You are 100% correct.

We've shifted a lot of the in person stuff initially over to more influencers.

Unrelated to Amico, Tommy: Did you know either Spencer Davis or Tony Lewis? Brutal day for the music industry.

I did not.

I meant turned off of the Amico community I've talked about that before. The actual game console is another story and that will just come down to the games.

Anyone else excited about the use of those LEDs on the main unit? I wish the original Intellivision had them! Imagine the original Astrosmash where the background was different for each level. They could have set the lights to the same color so your room would be bathed in it. Or the lights could have flashed the police car light colors of red, white, and blue when you got caught in Lock n Chase. If there's a game like Outrun the lights could simulate brake lights or indicators/blinkers/winkers. The more I think about it the more possibilities I come up with.

I think ingenuity like this will be noticed by other console manufacturers, especially Nintendo. It'll be interesting to see if they copy/adopt similar features in the future.

Also quick question to Tommy: are the games going to have accessibility options? I'm thinking like The Last of Us Part 2 has, e.g. by changing the color scheme to help players with visual impairment. And will games have customization options, like the option to turn off the dust trails of the falling rocks in Astrosmash to reduce on-screen clutter?

One last point about Ian and Pat: take notice about what they don't say. The last one they did about the Amico, they never repeated their claim that the machine doesn't exist. Looks like they're grudgingly accepting the machine is real. Tommy's a man with a good reputation and I'm sure he wouldn't want it tarnished so this is no sleazy fly-by-night scam.

Nah, LEDs sux, especially when they are in time to the music or gameplay. Nobody is going to want that, think it adds to game play, is just cool or is going spend extra money just for that. That is why I run my personal rig blacked out. 🤪

As someone who's only 3 months older than Pat, I almost feel the need to say sorry in the name of my generation. Nobody wants this, nobody is going to buy that, nobody liked that other thing 40 years ago. How can you say that, man? I used to say things like that in like, 1998? When we were both 18?

And this is coming from someone who's not particularly interested in the lights.

Maturity is something that often times comes with age, but doesn't depend on age. Realizing that people are unique & have different tastes & needs, requires you to think outside of yourself & your little bubble of like minded friends. Clearly I fall into the loving LEDs camp, but I appreciate all blacked out PC builds too. I like Moon Patrol better than Break Out but I was just watching a video by RetroBro where he said he likes Breakout better - who right? We both are - for us. Is Amico right for everyone? Of course not. Is it not for anyone? Of course not, I am living proof because it is right for me.

Thanks for pointing out how ridiculous this absolutism stuff is.

From Good Morning America today.

Something folks will not need to worry about when playing Amico.

We all know that hardcore gaming has unfortunately created a toxic community for some people.  Also shown in the way certain folks continue to harass us.

Still confusing.  But to each is own.

I think you'll find that the overwhelming majority of normal folks are very cool and positive to be around.  Most of the YouTubers nuke all of those negative hateful stalker posters (on both sides)... so maybe stick to those channels and you wouldn't need to worry about it.  And quite frankly... ONE person who you dislike is on the side of Amico?  So that turns you off to the entire community?

Again... I'm confused.  Feel free to explain more.

Yeah.... when people see this in action they are really gonna love it.

Will be interesting to see.  Too late for PS & Xbox, but Nintendo could do something similar in 3 - 4 years when their new machine is out.

No.

For folks worried about Astrosmash & Missile Command being too busy... I used very high levels and mulitplayer to record in the trailers because it's more exciting and shows off what Amico can do.  All of those games start very slow and it's not cluttered at all.  Especially in one player mode.

At this point, no one should ever pay attention to anything they say.  They are clearly biased and have an axe to grind based on ego and jealousy.

That's one way to look at it. but the only other ones I see using that type of language he uses is the Darius truxton crew. I wish none of that was in the amico community. It took the fun out of it for me. Now amico YouTube is almost unwatchable. There's a couple that's still pretty good.

I can't think of a sub-community I'm part of that doesn't have "that one guy", or a few far more out there on their own limb than everybody else.  I wouldn't let a hyper-advocate dissuade interest in something any more than I'd let a fixated naysayer speak for my concerns or disagreements.  Neither make "their side" look particularly stand-out, but then again neither speak for a side.  Their antics are unattractive to most viewers.

I look forward to April when the machine launches.  All of the sideshow, the relentless whatabouts and pursuit of drama; all of the "bombshell" videos that, frankly, I have a hard time discerning from manufactured flak cranked out to waste people's time, fall on deaf ears.  The only thing tangible that emerges is whether people play and enjoy the machine and its games.  That's it.  If it's at all an enjoyable experience to players, then the system will grow a normalized community who make videos and share and invariably bury the fringe with the cringe-worthy slurs and attacks.  If it turns out to not be enjoyable, then you and most everyone else will move on.

I tend to enjoy a good bit of Amico content, but then again I've resorted to filtering out a lot of what seems suspect to me, and ignore a handful of repeat offenders, until their periodic name change.  I'd rather enjoy the things I like and not be bogged down by those eager to prove the old adage, "This is Why We Can't Have Nice Things."

In 3 - 4 years, Microsoft is going to purchase Intellivision for an undisclosed amount of money to make their Xbox brand more family friendly. In related news, in 4 years, Tommy purchases his own private island. ;)

That brought up a vision of a Microsoft Amico... when it breaks, you get a 'multi-color ring of death'.

“Yeah, my console crapped out, but doesn’t it look impressive with all those flashing lights around it?”

And the thing is, this whole post is FAR more probable than anyone even can imagine....Just wait and see.....  LOL

They certainly find new ways to embarrass themselves.

They are the first people I ever saw complain about the LED lights.  And Ian not being able to make a connection between 20 years lighting experience of touring Video Games Live and the importance of lighting is hilariously dumb as it is naive.

These guys are literally coming apart at the seams with each and every video.  And the faces they make and the physical body shaking that occurs shows how incredibly biased they've become.

But I get it.  It's entertainment.  They are feeding their audience what they want to hear and the comments section reflects that.

Not so sure that they would have interactive lights on their next console, but I’m pretty sure they will have a very different controller, color touch screen for sure.
