Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Recommended Posts

Nothing tells me the Amico is meant to be a shared, social gaming experience like the Amico console carrying bag, controller carrying bag and, of course, the two included Amico controllers.

Here is a bit of an in depth look at the Amico console carrying bag (NOTE: I believe Tommy said these were production, or close to it, but obviously small details could change)

First here is the front side of the bag, with the Amico blue logo. The main bag area is about is about 13 inches (33 cm) wide at the widest point and about 11 inches (28 cm) tall (about, because it is a padded, soft sided bag so the size depends on how much you do or don't squish it). Notice the padding pleats, they are all around the bag to cushion the contents:

Also the iconic Running Man makes an appearance on the lower right side - this also shows a closeup of the (nylon?) outer shell.

Note the long shoulder strap is removable and there is a double zipper design:

The clip on shoulder strap can be adjusted between from about 50 inches (127 cm), down to around 28 inches (71 cm) long

IMG_1713.thumb.jpg.93cda8be2adc1b661001d533245fd2e6.jpg

Inside the bag is a large main pocket and a side pocket (nearly invisible on the right - it has Velcro keeping it closed) for cables and such:

IMG_1693.thumb.jpg.93184141c1b055557efb593031af985e.jpg

The side pocket open inside the main part of the bag:

IMG_1700.thumb.jpg.e9b317fab64e122ee1c459c6964d1ea0.jpg

Note the inner material has a baby blanket like finish to help prevent scratches

IMG_1701.thumb.jpg.7f226198e10968d1da0b8008f54f2cde.jpg

On the flip side of the bag are two controller pockets. Note more padding pleats & the Amico blue pull tabs for the Velcro holding each one shut:

Overall the bag seems really thoughtfully & well designed to safely transport your Amico and controllers.

Yes!  I originally picked the blue color for that reason and then after we did some market research and focus group testing we realized it was definitely the best choice for the market we are going for.  And retro too... cause it reminds us of Tron!   Hahhaha!   ;)

Yes.  There are 4 different colors of lanyards.  The standard Glacier White & Graphite Black Amicos will come with the light Amico blue (& black).  Galaxy Purple with purple (& silver), GTO Red with red (& black) and Vintage Woodgrain with brown (& gold).

When I purchase extra controllers, if I wanted to, can I change the lanyard colors?

Don’t worry I hear Tommy is working on the Amico Death Stranding Edition, it contains every Amico console in every color, all the physical games and three dozen controllers all in one easy to carry case ;)

I was going to get a second power cord (hopefully via pre-order) as I wanted to be able to move my Amico between the Living Room and another room; with the above, realize I’ll need a 3rd for when I take Amico on the road.

That is an excellent idea, most things are pretty easy to get out from my entertainment center but the power plugs/cords are always buried behind.

Yea, was going to just get 2 Amico’s (and with it have 4 controllers) but my LR entertainment cabinet is full. Thinking it may be time to ditch the Mini-Disc player...

I know! They put so much design into the carrying bag you would almost think they actually had a fun, multiplayer game console you would want to share with friends to put in it - obviously the most elaborate scam ever! Next thing you know Tommy is going to sell 1 million Amicos just to sucker in more investment money into his scam - this guy knows all the tricks! 🤪😂

Wow you got a mini disc player like the Sony from the ‘90s? Seems like it needs a fitting spot on the retro electronics shelf to me.

Yea,  by “ditch” I meant more take it out of the cabinet, not sure I could part with it. I even kept my old amp when it dropped a channel, but it was such an awesome sounding 7.1 integrated amp, I cant part with it; even though it doesn't support HDMI.  It sounded better then my current Yamaha flagship receiver.  Maybe its time i get it fixed, hook it back up to the mini-disc player and set them up in the garage :)

Hi folks,

while I read most of the posts here I only post something by myself occasionally, but now I once again have two questions for Tommy that recently came to my mind:

1. Will you mark all the games that were specifically designed for the amico from the ground and have no other versions on any other systems with something like an "only for" as other companies do? From a customer's perspective I would really appreciate this as a valuable information as it would indicate that the whole design process was done with the amico system and your game design philosophy in focus. That doesn't mean I would not buy games that exist on other systems in a non-amico exclusive version, but for me those "only for" games would more easily be an instant buy. Will you also specify your exclusivity promise one day in the future by saying something like: About/at least x% of our annual game releases will be total exclusive for the system with the rest of the releases being amico-unique  versions of games that also exist somewhere else. I think it would give the customer a clear idea what to expect and stop the nitpickers to start any discussion concerning exclusivity.

2. Do you consider any FREE post launch content for your games e.g. to celebrate high selling numbers. Or adding a special-themed car for example to Nitro Derby when EWJ 4 is released. Or maybe a pumpkin car to celebrate Halloween... May we expect things like that?

Number 2 is most likely a no. Anything they want to add would just end up in a sequel for the current game in order not to muddy the waters on dlc

Hi!,

Thanks for the questions.

I don't think we would be interested in basing any future strategies in hopes of pleasing a small group of "nitpickers".  All of our games are exclusive versions to Amico.  The exclusive versions of our games will not be on any other console.  I think it's pretty self-explanatory.

I believe a game is either fun or it isn't.  I don't think anyone would decide to purchase something based on how many other versions are on other consoles (especially ones that don't have the same content as ours).  If folks are that interested, I'm sure all of these games will eventually have their own Wiki pages or Moby Games for them to check out to find that kind of data if they are interested.  We also wouldn't label and try to break down how much of the new Astrosmash or Shark! Shark! was taken from the original versions.  If anyone should do stuff like that you would think it would be EA with Madden, FIFA or Activision with Call of Duty.   :)

Our target audience doesn't really care if 20% of a certain game came out once on mobile 5 years ago.  Like you said... only the nitpickers are so bent out of shape about it.  And lets be real.  It doesn't have anything to do with how they personally define the term "exclusive".  It just something else they can complain about.

We definitely have some fun things planned for holidays, etc.  And maybe some surprises and easter eggs with certain games here and there.  So what you mentioned wouldn't be out of the question.

Another fantastic write-up @GrudgeQ!!

I'm glad people are staring to notice the amount of detail and quality we are putting into everything we do.  We went through about 30 revisions of that bag to get everything just perfect.  :)

Appreciate the detailed review!
