Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Speaking of Pitfall...

Activision is apparently pulling Toys For Bob onto work on the Call of Duty franchise, meaning all of their owned studios will have contributed to COD.

Do they even want to own the classic Activision IP's? Maybe Intellivision shouldn't be asking if they want to license them from Activision...but rather, if they want to buy them!

Would love to get to a point where that happens!  We already have a few things up our sleeves in regards to owning certain big retro things out there.  More to come later this year!

:)

So, an update from me on R-Type: I got my R-Type Final 2 the day before launch day and I beat it before it was released. Then I turned the difficulty up and beat it again. R-Type Final 2 was excellent, just as I hoped it would be. I hope whoever does Amico R-Type makes something that is at least as good as Final 2 is. If you guys can talk to Granzella and get them to make it, even better, as they are mostly former Irem staff like Kujo (who did In the Hunt, R-Type Delta, R-Type Final, R-Type Final 2, and also Metal Slug over at Nazca), but they are apparently working on more content for Final 2 for the next 2 years or something, so maybe not possible.

Good to know!  Glad you enjoyed it.  Will definitely be speaking to them about it.

Just kind of interesting: With the Sports/Rec overlays, Intellivision went with probably the 3 most popular casual sports in North America (and also very unisex sports) and not the top 3 most watched sports (like football, basketball, baseball or hockey). It looks like they are targeting the person's hobbies over what they might watch for entertainment.

Also why 3 overlays? Of course, it could be to give some variety in case you don't like one of the images, but I wonder if Intellivsion market research shows that the average Amico buyer is going to end up with 3 controllers?

Also just some pop marketing psychology here but I wonder if these are divided roughly (not to say anyone can't like any of these) into

Kids:

Older kids/mid age adults:

We have a PRO Sports one as well.  Baseball, Football & Soccer... maybe Basketball.   :)

Hi Tommy,

here come two more questions for you:

1. Is the cat sword fighting game from the very first gameplay trailer still in active development?

No.  Not actively at this time.

2. Do you consider a game based on the Miraculous brand one day? My daughter absolutely adores that tv show. (And Ladybug for sure has some Spiderman vibes I would say.)

We would consider anything that is popular and for kids!

Had a dream last night Tommy was showing off some of the peripherals for Amico. A couple of them involved placing the controller into a remote-controlled monster truck, bicycle, or a thing that could scale the walls, all controlled in-game, sorta like a cooler Mario Kart Live Home Circuit.

Is my subconscious onto anything Tommy?? XD

I like the way you think and dream!!

We've actually had some crazy brainstorming ideas somewhat along those lines... but nothing that scales the walls.   :)

I hear his mind control is laggy though.

Well sure, Vader's is a bit outdated, being from the 70's. I'm pretty sure it's dial up.

I know I mentioned a LOTR game on here before.  It would be nice to have a LOTR game on Amico if possible.  In LOTR is a location called the Misty Mountains.  If a LOTR game comes to Amico it should have the Cloudy Mountains in it as a nod to AD&D.

I guess that makes him a part of the old man cringe community then.

Welcome to the club Vader!!

I can't right now.  But it's big stuff that people definitely know about.

They got a few things incorrect in that article.  For example, you can't use your RFID credit card on Amico to purchase.  They must have gotten that mixed up with our gift cards.

Was cool to see IGN checking out Amico in Dubai though.  They knew Sumeet and asked to get a little sneak peak:D

From what Sumeet tells me they were very impressed.

Yeah... we definitely have those strategy type of games.  Risk vs. reward, etc.  Incan Gold is a perfect example!

Farkle (AKA Zilch) is a great dice risk vs reward game as well, and that one comes in the box.

Tommy, sometimes it’s better to just keep missteps to yourself 🤣

Well, just after 5 months from contracting COVID, I’m finally going back to work tomorrow😁. Its been a long haul to date and have a bit to go, but continuing to get better week by week.

Been hitting some good milestones of late; off oxygen during the day 6 weeks ago, off oxygen at night 2 weeks ago, returned oxygen to vendor late last week (meaning any issues going forward is a 911 call, but don’t think that’s happening), going back to work tomorrow is a big one and also just did my first mile long walk since December (was typically doing 2-4 miles 3-4 times a week before getting sick).  Will be working toward my goal of 4 miles in 80 minutes, then back into the water for some paddling. Might be a little longer but I’ll get there. We all have our own mountains to climb.

Thanks (and sorry) Tommy for having to perpetually postpone my wife collecting her Moon Patrol Contest Prize. We’ll see you in July and we are both really looking forward to it.

Anyone concerned Hot Wheels Unleashed is getting a lot more press than the Amico game?

Hot Wheels Unleashed looks pretty great and I don't own any Hot Wheels games.

Honestly, I didn't even know it was coming out until you posted this and peaked my interest. Now, after watching a demo video about the game, I'd like to purchase it on Xbox Series X when it becomes available.

It's probably getting a lot of attention because it's going to be available on several different platforms.

I know there's a lot of Mattel nostalgia here, but why is nobody asking for Hyperscan ports? :-D
Interesting to me, to watch this, but I guess most readers here already know a lot about it?

The serious use of RFID "media" was something I had totally missed, but very interesting!
