Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Yeah, could be a possibility for sure.  We're starting with their 12 biggest titles and after they are out and how well received, we'll see where it goes from there.

That's good to know.

I genuinely think this is a good fit for the new Intellivision. The game looks like it fits in with games from that era. I say that as a compliment. This is exactly what I want from this console. It looks like something my family/friends and I can play for a few and laugh. I know it might be catering to young gamers, but it's an awesome update to the classics for older (um... More mature?) gamers too. I would seriously love to see an updated, multiplayer Dodge em from the Atari 2600.

Yeah!  It's definitely one of those quick to just pick up and play with friends who have never played before and have loads of fun right off the bat!

And there are a TON of unlockables for folks interested in the single player and battling against the A.I.!

I thought you already did.  I know a few Imagic games are coming to Amico.  Last year I recall you saying you had access to the whole library.  Maybe I dreamt it or misheard what you said.  Oh well.  Hopefully someday you can own the entire Imagic library and put all their games on Amico.  Wouldn't that be something?

I think Tommy was just referring to the rights to re-imagine the games (and perhaps publish the originals for the Amico OG emulator), not full ownership or merchandising rights. I agree, Intellivision Entertainment actually *owning* the Imagic collection would be beyond awesome for both the Amico and people who love the original. The Imagic games were some of the best and being able to fold that collection into the Amico/flashbacks/merch etc. would help the Intellivision legacy live on.

We don't own the Imagic library.  We are licensing the games from the people who officially own them.  So we wouldn't be able to make merchandise without their permission.

Pretty cool survey here on AtariAge about the best publishers for the OG, just look at the poll results for games & boxes. Imagic is an important part of the legacy (and hopefully the future):

PSA: If you are thinking of ordering any Merch from the Intellivision Amico Store, make sure you check out the latest email from Intellivision Entertainment to save some $$s (and if you aren't subscribed, there is still time to correct your dubious life choices by going here immediately ;) )

May the Merch Be With You!

Posted (edited)

so does IE now have the licensing rights and permission from Disney to us some of their most iconic franchise figures for advertising purposes? just curious, its one thing to have some fan made fun images in some obscure forum, quite another to use them in direct advertising. So perhaps IE does have some Disney licensing and that would be great as working and licensing Disney stuff would be great for the system.

This is great!  I love the inclusion of Tron!  Can someone please explain the obsession of TAB on this forum to me?  My only memory of it was trying it in the 80's and it reminded me of Pepsi gone flat! 🤢

It's mostly from the marketing nostalgia standpoint. . .this was the era before "diet" sodas (Coca-Cola produced it) were mainstream. In the late 1960's and early 1970's, people were just starting to become aware of the health dangers of high sugar intake, obesity and related health issues. So Tab was marketed as a healthier soft drink option, but not as a "diet" drink. By the early 1980's "dieting" hit fad status and Coca-Cola introduced Diet Coke. However, Tab still appeared in popular culture, appearing in WarGames, one of the Rambo movies, and was a running gag as an obsession of Brian Posehn's character in the TV sitcom Just Shoot Me, among other things. That was probably mostly to increase appeal among younger consumers who didn't see a need to consume Diet Coke at a younger age.
