Same here.  I had never played this one until it was mentioned here (I thought I had played them all), so I booted it up this AM and spent most of the morning playing.

It's not really surprising that you've never heard of it; the game itself was only released in Japan and the arcade PCB also happens to be extremely rare and a real one will cost you about $800~$1000 (USD) or so. Fakes are cheaper, though. The only international release of the game, as well as its only home release, is now unobtainable, just like R-Types and R-Type Delta on the PS1, which were on the PS3 PSN store but they all got pulled from sale about 8 years ago or so.

Here it is, in case anyone wants to not buy it: https://www.amazon.com/DotEmu-Irem-Arcade-Hits-Download/dp/B008ELNDLA

Oh cool!  It's an IREM game!!  VERY easy for us to get then as we already have a fantastic relationship with them.

Great to know!  Thanks for the additional info!

Yeah, it was made (or at least published by, as it wasn't originally supposed to be an R-Type game at all before being converted into an R-Type game during development) by the original Irem Corporation before the whole thing with Irem Software Engineering and Nazca and that confusing mess. I'm not sure how long Scott Tsumura was at Irem (and his Wikipedia page got deleted, it seems), but I think he's at Intellivision here in Japan now, right?

Another cool looking shooter. Great music too. Perhaps it could be on Amico.

I like the enemies that move on a grid, usually these games are filled with all sorts of more organic enemy patterns but usually not symmetrical fixed movement zones.

Hey Tommy,

Have you thought about producing any coloring books for the kids based on the upcoming Amico games? For example, you could take one of those Finnigan Fox screenshots, remove the color but keep the black outlines, and there you go, you have a drawing waiting to be colored in!

I remember back when I was an elementary school kid and those Nintendo Game & Watches came out. A bunch of kids in my school had them, and I remember we had a small assignment in class where we had to draw something and explain it. Some boys who usually weren't that interested in studying suddenly got excited and asked if they could draw their Game & Watch. The teacher agreed, and they eagerly started drawing them, trying to get perfect realism. I just think kids might be that eager to try coloring in scenes from their favorite Amico games. I know I would've loved to have colored in the box art for Astrosmash had it existed.

Thanks as always!

I got to see it live.  But I missed the first half.  I thought it started at 8pm.  And it was on earlier.  I went back and watched what I missed.

BHG now does a short version with his own comments. He's another Amico convert and didn't event host Tommy yet.

Love this video - not only is DJC my go to for 4th hand news (check out the Tommy exclusives mentioned in the AAA podcast last night), but his mini Intellivision box art tour points out some of the great Intellivision classics covers. Always loved the detailed bubble inserts and the water color paintings. Here is one in my top 10 he didn't mention:

I can't wait to see the re-imagined Sub Hunt & Sea Battle on Amico.

Thumbs up on both of those. Sea Battle is already multiplayer but I wonder if a re-imagined Sub Hunt might involve one player being the convoy and the other the sub? Both games, but especially Sub Hunt, would likely rely on secret information on the controller screens - lots of interesting possibilities.

Oh man, you got to make a live one sometime - they are so much fun. Yes, it was an awesome anniversary edition, a must watch video. What game, he covered so many I can't remember any "not currently" mentions?

I was always a fan of the Glacier White anyway (although I think most people prefer graphite in the base models) but it is looking even better now. With those controller overlays to customize the white, man that would be cool looking.

My first Cornhole (in the wild) sighting!!!

image.thumb.png.0c5ea0f3d89b148c42431fc03ba5da1e.png

I was out for a walk, early in the morning this weekend.. Saw this.  I don't know these people, but I will go ahead and earn my shill Check this week and let them know about Amico. :)

That brings up a question about the play mechanics of the game itself: I've noticed that every player in the ACL, before tossing the beanbag, will fling the bag in the air a few inches and spin it around a few times. I'm sure there is a "professional" term for it.  But everything that I type makes the 12 year old me... Giggle.  Will this play mechanic be included in the game? I know its not really essential for the game But just wondering.  I assume that is a reason and its more than just a nervous tick with everyone. Distributing weight evenly around the bag? Flattening the bag for better aerodynamics? Or are they just having fun?

Here's a screenshot, if anyone's curious:

You can also see a sneak peek at the Glacier White and Graphite Black controllers, as well as the top shell of a couple Vintage Woodgrain systems.

The latter seems less metallic and more glossy, when compared to render shots. Not sure how good it's gonna look if they go with that...
