Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Recommended Posts

Hi Tommy,

I have two more questions about game control (Sorry if I disappoint some as they have nothing to do with "lag"...)

1. About how many percent of the release titles will use motion control in a meaningful way?

2. How do you draw in telestrations? Will there be something like a stylus included?

Thank you. This game is great. It has everything you already would be interested in for the system: co-op, interesting and varied level design, enemies, and enemy placement, excellent difficulty curve, good music and SFX, simple 2-button gameplay, and a completely unique take on R-Type that has never been done since (aside from the R-9Leo and R-9Leo2 being in R-Type Final and Final 2). I have no idea why it hasn't gotten a home release aside from that one poorly emulated release. Supposedly there was a Genesis/MD port that was suggested at the time but it got rejected.

I think you said you have a MAME cabinet, right? Try it on your MAME cabinet, get your wife or someone to play it with you, and have fun with it because the game is awesome and MAME runs it well.

Port it, emulate it, remake it... please make it happen if you can. Insta-buy with absolutely no hesitation.

Cool to see a guy who makes great games get so excited about another game.

Now I'm intrigued to play this on the Amico.

Not strictly Amico related but Netflix is about to launch their new He-Man cartoon:

This was after their reboot of She-ra a few years ago: https://www.engadget.com/2019-05-11-netflix-she-ra-season-3-geena-davis.html

This got me reminiscing about all of the original Intellivision games with non gaming tie-ins, like Master of the Universe, Major League Baseball, Advanced D&D, Tron, Scooby Doo, etc. All of those brands are still alive and kicking today. Of course, the Amico is continuing the Intellivision brand cross licensing tradition with Harlem Globe Trotters, ACL, Major League Baseball, Hot Wheels, Evel Knievel, Care Bears & Sesame Street. Can't wait to see what additional brands the Amico can bring to the Intellivision stable & add to it's long history.

I hope the new He-Man is not all woke. I'm a little surprised he's not wearing glasses, skinny jeans and a tight sweater.

With you all the way on wokeness. Please Tommy, dont make the amico a woke/pc machine (i doubt it will be) but please dont let it permeate into the games. Any movie that embraced woke/pc culture tanked badly and ruined franchises (terminator for example)

It sure would be nice to the Q and A thread was about Questions and Answers, rather than a few people throwing out personal insults,  presumably hoping others will respond in kind so they have an excuse to remove them from the thread/forum.  That won't work for me, sorry.

I also like how, instead of the Q&A thread being Qs and As, some people use it as a chance post long posts with images and videos that have nothing to do with the subject (and, heck, even their opening line states as much, so they're well aware that they're trying to derail a Q&A discussion) so they can push the entire topic out of the recent comments.

I'm here to talk Amico, players.  Please check your personal dramas at the door.  Thanks.

EDIT: Lots of good info and exclusives in this one - he asked tons of good questions, some you have heard before but several new & interesting that Tommy mentioned some brand new info on. HIGHLY recommended.

Thanks for posting.  Yeah, he asked a lot of great questions and this was one of the better interviews over the past few months for sure.

Is SmashJT an official spokesperson for Intellivision Entertainment?  Does SmashJT's statements represent Intellivision Entertainment?  If so, I'll gladly watch every SmashJT video out there.  If not... that's why I'm coming to YOU and asking YOU in a A & Q thread for YOU, Tommy.  I want to hear what Intellivision Entertainment's stance on the statements made by IGN are.  Not what RandomYoutuber2779's experience is.

I find it so interesting that when you give answers to certain folks that they don't want to hear, they will keep trying to ask the question no matter how many times you've answered it.

They would rather hear the answer they want to hear as opposed to the truth.

Then, what typically happens is when they don't get the answer they want they'll say I'm arguing with them and that I'm being unprofessional... followed closely by I "can't take criticism".

Very strange.

Can we just move on from the negativity please?  I don't post a lot here, but I do try to read this thread throughout the week.  It's usually something fun and positive to look forward to.  Can we please take it back to that?

@Toobin, it seems that your issues are complicated enough to start your own thread topic rather than taking over this thread.

I think it's time for another @CurlyQ pic to lighten the mood!

No... there is no lag... oh... wait... sorry... just a trigger reaction.

Um... okay... getting on with it...

1.  Cornhole, Farkle, Evel Knievel & Bomb Squad are probably the top ones.

2.  That's a great question as we've just been talking about that this week.  You can use the tip of your finger and it draws pretty good.  Talking about the ability to change thicknesses of the brush in an easy way so you can get a little more detailed... but still messing around with what the final would be.  We could potentially put a stylus into the physical version, but obviously wouldn't be able to do that for the digital version.  Any stylus would work though, but that is assuming people have one at all.  We're trying to make it great with just a finger.

The folks at Retro Gaming Revival (The UK blokes who were a bit critical about Amico) did a live stream earlier.  I just got through listening.

There were 6 folks on the panel who all didn't want to purchase an Amico.  They were contacted by Snestastic Pete (aka The Amico Kid) and he gave them a bunch of info and then they had me on earlier this week.

How do the 6 of them feel now?
Here's the final decision:

https://youtu.be/KmwqrfZMC20?t=5236

This part of the stream was particularly funny.  They made a clip of this and posted it on their Facebook group of over 5,000 retro gamers.  Cool dudes.

If you're interested in just hearing the Amico parts of the stream, it starts here:

Thanks to the Retro Gaming Revival guys for keeping an open mind!

Tommy, I have heard you talk about the online leaderboards which sound awesome. I’m wondering how the local leaderboards are coming along. Those are the most important to me.

Going good!  Hoping to have them all for launch.  If not, within months.

Local leaderboards are implemented directly into the games so no worries there.  They are already implemented and working.

I would love to see the local leaderboards be specific to smaller geographic areas, such as city or county.  It might lead to some local meetups or in-person Amico events if a few people from the same city realize they keep competing with each other.

If an entire state is the smallest geographic area, I'll likely be ranked #20,000 or worse in California because it's so populated.

Awesome and the friends leaderboards also are are great idea even though I have no friends or family buying the Amico .....yet.   It would be awesome to have a friends leaderboard with anyone on this board that wants to Join !

Yeah!  That would be pretty cool.  An Atari Age Amico Q&A group.

or AAAQA for short.

GAME ON!   :)

Yep!  We definitely have them by states/provinces (for the larger countries) as well as country and world.  Cities got a little too granular as we do want it to mean something when you get to the top!

Sorry haven't been on in a while been busy. Wanted to say thanks to everyone at Atariage for their hard work keeping out the riffraff. It's come to my knowledge that some odd individuals on YT are making claims false claims about me and in regards to Intellivision Amico and Tommy Tallarico. That I'm bias because I'm

1 an investor.

2 I've been banned from Atariage

Both are incorrect, I've never invested in the republic investment option. Just did a deposit on the FE.

And the 2nd one well is pretty obvious lol

Just don't want mosl information about me or Tommy Tallarico to be put out there.

I think a statement from an official from Intellivision Entertainment holds much more weight than that of a random Youtuber or otherwise compensated fan.  The fact that it would give investors potential recourse is *why* is gives an official statement more weight.

Why do you assume us fans are compensated?  Do you truly believe some of us are here because we are being paid?  How about instead of drawing conclusions you assume we are here because we are fans of the Intellivision and the system they are currently attempting to put out.  It's assumptions like this that make an, well you know how the old saying goes, besides I don't want you to use it to claim you are being attacked by me.  At this point, because the product is not finished, you will not get an official statement from IE.  Why not do yourself a favor and watch some videos from users who have been invited to play and listen to their impressions to date?  That's the best anyone on here can do at this point to do some research.  I'll even get you started.  Watch Brett Weiss as he was one of the chosen who got to try out the Amico at the National Video Game Museum.  His videos are well done and informative and I believe he addresses your Holy Grail issue of in game lag...
