Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Recommended Posts

Just a brief playtesting story for Tommy.

My son is 9 yo, and his two best friends (twins) are the same age. His friends play Fortnite almost exclusively on their Xbox One. When they come over to play, they ask if I have a baseball game for my PS4. I don't like sports games and didn't have any, so the twins end up playing Fortnite.

Then I remembered that I had Little League World Series 2009 for the Wii. They hadn't really ever played the Wii--it was too old to even be on their radar. We had a blast playing four player, each kid (and me) controlling different parts of the team. Super easy to pick up and play. Not intimidating like modern sports games for Xbox One or PS4. They went home asking their dad for a Wii.

Amico can have that market that the big three seem to have abandoned.

It is Quilted Mahogany from "The Tree" as it is call in the luthier world. Mostly used in the custom guitar wood it is so rare. It is dense and sounds like Brazilian Rosewood in an acoustic guitar. I just happen to have a large stash of this stuff. Only one Mahogany tree was ever found with this figure. It was a mutant, much like me.

Cool. What is that?

New logo from: https://www.reddit.com/r/Amico/comments/c007nz/amicos_new_logo/

These were my comments on seeing it:

The black textured background and light blue green reminds me of the net yaroze :D

The font is too arty feely and kinda hard to read... the A and m

The i looks like it's from a cartoon or a game

The c looks so boring xD

The o well.. again kinda boring, it could have been like MetallicA's logo with a big O

So it's not consistent... a lot wrong with it.

People get paid big bucks for logo's.. I wonder who did it? or if they'll put their name to it xD

He should have a comp for it and let his email list vote on their favourite ;)

New logo feels a little too Fisher-Price "Baby's First Computer" Toy to me to be honest. Really not a fan at all. I think the launch logo was much nicer, sleeker, and appealing to Adults as well as Children. This logo sort of only skews in the direction of a very young child's toy.

An easy fix is to imagine the "O" as as a martini olive.

For me the logo is cool ! What I care most is games and Gameplay ! :)

I have a challenge for those who don't really like the logo ...

Make one and show it to us ! ;)

You don't get a new logo outta me for free. People expecting spec work in the graphics design industry get no respect from me.

So, as to the games, are we to anticipate any specific news about this thing that's being shown this week behind closed doors. Even Atari got some info out, and this is no Atari, one would hope.

Atari has delayed multiple times and while they show a release date being only 6 months away from backer release with no games announced seems like a bad move to me.

Gameplay screenshots and trailers I believe are to start showing up in July but Amico isn’t due our fiat 16 months so there are lots more come slowly looking forward to it

They are clearly going for family friendly, so the logo fits I guess. I know a lot of people here are excited by it, and I wish them the best, but I'm still imagining a Walmart early learning toy mixed with the tech of a Wii.

I can appreciate them trying to distance themselves from the image of video games as only for the angry solitary crowd but the M heart is a little much.

I think that's what they are going for; mom's buying Amicos in Walmart.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Amico logo stretches and squashes and "dances" in place when shown in commericals and while the console itself starts up.

I like the look of the consoles...not particularly liking the logo but might fit the "all ages" image the Amico is trying for. Still need more information before I decide for myself whether the Amico will be a good console or not, but the vision articulated so far sound interesting enough that it could surprise people in the next generation if it's executed well. But at least it will be better than the Ataribox.

From Andre' LaMothe's latest update on his electronic course (it's good BTW!)

Additionally, I have been hammered working on the new
Intellivision Amico
Controllers for the past months and had to get a prototype ready for E3 (Electronics Entertainment Expo) 16 months ahead of schedule, just a bit of stress
:)
I did it though -- delivered working hardware, wrote demos, firmware, a training guide and videos, for the programmers, so E3 went as planned. Alas, I can get back into neutral and try "sleeping" again
:)

Andre L. Is an amazing engineer and when I found out he was doing the hardware I knew I wanted the amico. I met him at classic game expo and his udemy class is awesome if you want to learn electronics from scratch.

I am sure the amico will be a great hardware design.
