Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Check out Micro Mages on Steam too. It's a NES game. 4 player co-op too.

The Amico is suppose to have the jzintv emulator in it so shouldn't require them to build one.

I'm glad Tommy and co. went and got the permission for jzintv. They could've just adopted some open source solution and not tell anyone, but it shows a lot of thoughtfulness to go straight to the source.

The people who didn't pre-order the Amico

Will people still get one?

I will, because it is different, which is why I bought a Wii.

Screw that low-end PC, Nutari is hacking together. 🌮

I don't know if this has been answered but are we talking carts here or something else akin to a disc? Perhaps a DS or Switch sd card kind of thing?

I haven't said just yet.  We will be announcing at E3.

Wish I could say more.

It's cool though.  :)

Caught up on recent pages and had a few things on some of the games talked about:

Harness Racing - sounds great. I have not seen a fun horse racing game in years, and never one with harnesses. OMG Horse Racing 2016 for PS4 may be the winner of worst game I played on the console.

Stardew Valley - I get the pixel art comments, but that game would be AMAZING on the Amico. Could be a killer app even. Think Animal Crossing meets light RPG.

Drifting games - There are some out there, but none that have been very good. The best Drift game mechanic for me was in the PS4's Driveclub, which had a pretty darn good drifting feel and mechanic.

Photo-taking instead of shooting - I remember one about 5-10 years ago where you were in Africa taking pictures instead of hunting. Worked great.

Yep!  It was called Afrika!  Loved that game.

Jzintv is opensource and uses gnu gpl v2 licensing.

When they do put intellivision console games on their store, which might include homebrews, I expect it will be a distinct section.  That's to avoid looking like a retro console.

Pardon me?  I didn't question the product, I like PCB porn, ask Kevin.  He sent me some unpopulated proto motherboards. ;)

Just let it go, I will just buy one and open it up.  I missed any shots of it, I don't really have the time to go through all the youtube stuff.  It's all good.

Yo,

That comment wasn't directed at you what-so-ever.  I was referring to Shawn the trouble-maker who said everyone was drowning in my Kool-Aid.

Let it go guys, I really was just curious about the design.  I've known Tommy forever and I know he will succeed, he is a very hard worker.  And if any of the "they don't know what they are talking about", was directed at me, LOL.  I've been programming games for 35 years.  Tommy did work for at least one of my games, namely Pac-Man World.

Discuss the games, they are the most important part, not the hardware.

I don't believe any of that was directed at you.  It was the nerdy cupcake Smurf trying to once again upset the apple cart as he's done in other threads.

:)

Back to driving games on the Amico ... anything like Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast on PS2 and original Xbox will be a winner.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to take a second look at PS2/original Xbox/Wii games that hold their value in the used market.

Outrun 2006 is one of these. Earlier, someone had mentioned Family Feud for Wii. That's another one. Easy, cheap research. These used games hold their value because they're good (not all do, obviously).

Outrun 2006 Coast to coast is one of my fav arcade racing game but most of the entire "into the screen" arcade racing genre is in jeopardy on Amico as it's very hard to do multiplayer coop without doing split screen (I know there could be exceptions but I don't think they will be focusing on this genre for quite a while).   I do hope they find a way to do this genre on Amico, since going as far the first outrun in the arcade, right through  the awesome Lotus 2 on the Amiga, it seems that genre has always combined killer fun gameplay with fantastic music and it would be appreciated here

Oh yeah.  For sure.

A few of the big retailers will be doing pre-orders as well.

And we may even do another Vintage Woodgrain version (not as good as the Founders Edition... but something still cool for all the folks who missed out).

 game.

Another question about the controllers. From my vague understanding, you can hold the controller in various positions for gameplay: upright, on its side and on its side "upside down" and it will automatically match the orientation. When using my cell phone, when it gets close to back facing down, will sometimes change orientations and get stuck in them and I have to turn them this way and that to get the preferred orientation back. As you can imagine, this would be bad during gameplay. Have you looked into preventing this from happening somehow if the controller should get tilted wrong during gameplay?

It's THE BEST... and we want THE BEST!

No one is more passionate about the inner workings of the original Intellivision than him.  I keep trying to hire him... but he works for "the man" and they pay him very well... cause he's worth it!

Precisely!  We have a lot of different categories for games... the originals will have their own category so as not to confuse folks.

We've been trying to figure out ways to deal with this.  Potentially just locking it in once the game starts (so you're unable to switch it on the fly during gameplay).

RFID Trading card type deal? Bring back the game binders but well for cards. Hence the Golden Ticket type things? Just a guess.

RFID cards are unstable. I bought into the DropMix music-mixing game system by Harmonix which was pretty cool, and used RFID cards, but lots of people had some cards randomly fail. Like one day they worked, next day they didn't.

I meant to say this myself, you're  always posting PCB porn, 😆 I took your question to be legit and not trolling in any fashion. 👍🏻

We do know the game will be a physical game and not a download card. AFAIK, RFID cards can only store 2K to 4K. I'm guessing it is more like an SD card, since I believe all there will be are USB and SD card slots. I thinking the collectability will be in the box and manual, maybe a trading card?

Perhaps an RFID card that just has your serial number or key to allow download?
