I did like the Missile Command video. I like the little sound effect from the original before each wave, little touches like that go a long way.  Still find the perspective a little off, but I could be wrong since I havent seen it on a screen in person.

I find the brightly colored ringed "explosions" very distracting. Maybe they should be muted a bit so you can better see your targets.

Yea, there are a lot of dials to turn for sure. Its been a while, but my recollection is that the explosions were slower and lasted longer in the OG version. Again, this all goes toward personal preferences, but I trust IE will get things within the majorities ball park.

Let's resist the temptation to discuss politics and current events in this thread.  Discussions of these topics in other threads have been most unproductive recently, and I have no reason to believe things will be different here, so let's keep this thread on topic.

Tommy,

Great video but I have to say "Fix those boxes!"

I mean after the quarantine.

But man those stacks of boxes leaning over look dangerous.

If John Alvarado happen to walk by and get buried under piles of boxes that would not be good.

Oh and you and your other employees could get hurt too so I want everyone safe.

"Box safety is everybody's safety."

Ask OEB Pete.

He knows all about box safety.

🙂

I did have one question, was it my internet connection (admittedly  its a bit slow) but did some of those reticles  seem to move a bit jerky?  If some indeed did move a bit jerky I can only assume as this is still an Alpha or Beta of the system and software and that the final product will be smooth and silky for every control method.

I know I speak for many here Tommy, but great job!  Tommy it is impossible for you to give us too much information and gameplay videos by the way.. haha..

I thought the same thing.  There were moments when the reticles were choppy, and then there were times when they were a lot smoother.  The game looks like a lot of fun, and I can't wait to try it for myself.  I do wish these early videos were a little more than Tommy walking around with his phone and recording people in what looks to be a storage closet.  And maybe this is just me, but in a short video, Tommy needs to be more focused on what he's going to say.  In a two hour long podcast, hell yeah, talk your heart out.  But in these shorter videos, I think he has so much he wants to say that he sometimes overdoes it. I think the same thing happened at the reveal at the Portland Retro Gaming Convention.  He went long in his speech because when he starts talking, he just can't help himself.  I get it. He's excited and passionate about Amico and wants to share that. I think being more focused and concise in these Meet Amico videos would give them a better punch.

As for Nintendo's 51 casual games announcement from earlier... it's missing the whole point.  Nintendo has tried this route before. PlayStation has tried to put out their casual/party games.  The problem for these companies is that the idea of family fun is just a side thought. It's something they toss out for a few minutes in a presentation, maybe put out a couple of games, then they quickly focus all their efforts on the bread n' butter "hardcore gamers."  Try as they like, they can not break into this market because they have to keep their core customers happy. If it's ever seen that they're putting too much attention into casual fun, they'll ignore it until it dies (for Sony, see WonderBook or PlayLink). Intellivision is approaching this from the opposite direction.  Make those games the core focus and not just a side project.

I love everything I've seen from Amico so far.  October can't come soon enough. I know that now there is zero marketing dollars being spent, and I can't wait to see what happens when they really start putting their full effort into it.

Yeah really great ! Here it is when it's only sound !

This is just awesome!  I agree, the sound was excellent.  I really got the arcade feel from it.  I may have under-rated this game in my ratings from the very short clip from the previous trailer.  This does seem like a ton of fun - especially with the couch co-op!

Very encouraging video. Too bad he lost the actual interview. Murphy’s Law, sigh. Was this the guy talking about covering a lot of underserved areas of gaming? Just a thought again: Xbox Fitness had over 2 million subscribers and spending megabucks on subscriptions before the plug was pulled on Kinect. However, people may be wary of having the subscription streaming rug pulled out from under them again with a new system, so a download would be better, although it would be a 6-8 GB 20 min download quite likely.

Just wanted to say, GREAT job @OEB_Pete interviewing @Tommy Tallarico...  Just finished the long interview and to date, my favorite of what you have done. Well planned out and executed.

So today you are still my favorite Canadian.  ;-)

Maybe one day when this world is not as kookoo and at some Gaming Show where Intellivision has a big booth, you and I can converge on it and meet...

Maybe we can tackle Tommy and get some more "worlds firsts" from him... and if he refrains... maybe a noogie or two will help him tell us more.  No wedgies though... that would be too juvenile.  😝

haha

Be well and great video!

One thing I'd like to point out about Nintendo (besides the fact that I think they are great and seemed to be killing it on the Switch) is this:

They used to come out with two systems (a home console and a portable system) pretty close to each other or overlapping in some way.

If you add the totals from NES through Gamecube their sales went down generation over generation. Then the wii/ds blow up and were huge successes (an anomaly). Then the wii u and 3ds did less (the trend of going down returned) and now the Switch is by itself so those numbers would have to do better than wii u AND 3ds.  It could happen but it hasn't yet.

I'm not knocking the Company.  They have Billions of dollars in the bank and are really doing well with the Switch.  They have great games and know their fans.

I'm saying that Nintendo sales go down. It's not a knock on the company but it is a reality. The NES sold more than the SNES.  The SNES sold more than the Gamecube.  The Gameboy sold more than the GBA. Etc. etc.

Compare this to Sony.  The sales from PS1 to the PS2 went up.  They they hit an anomaly (the PS3 - which was the same time Nintendo hit there anomaly with the wii) and that went down.  The PS4 is up again.

These are just broad strokes but they tell a story.

So when people come into this forum and dump on an upstart company like Intellivision (which just wants to spread joy) and these same people continously talk about how Nintendo is better, I ask myself: "better than what?"

Is Nintendo of today better than Nintendo of 15 years ago? 20 years ago?

Is Nintendo better than Sony?  How are they comparing "better"?  Is it sales? Quality of games?

What about money they have in the bank? Does Nintendo have more money then Microsoft?

What is the measurement?

Is it that those people like one system better than another?

That seems to be what they are getting at when they say "better".

Do they own stock in Nintendo?

Because if they don't then why are they rooting for them?  Why are they trashing another company?  Do the CEOs of Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony trash each other?  Do they trash Intellivision?

Where are they getting this venom they spit out from?  Who is stoking this fire?

I thought console wars were over with the SNES/Genesis era.

I don't care what systems you have and which "team" your on (I'm on team John Alvarado by the way).

You shouldn't care either.

Trashing one system to make you feel better is a sad way to live.  Writing things just off enough that when someone quotes you, you quickly state "that's not what I said" is disingenuous and very shallow.   We all see it.  We all don't care.  It's another dog barking at the wind.  The wind won't change direction if you bark at it.  It'll just go where it wants and the dog will be alone with its cries.

Sorry about the long rant but I just wanted to lay down some facts.

As for the Big Three - I have Systems from each company.  My sons have systems from each company.  I'm going to buy my girlfriend's son an Xbox Series X.  I bought my ex wife's youngest son a 2ds and he will probably get a Switch lite in the future from me (he already has an xbox one and a ps4).

So enjoy gaming.

Bring your thoughts and feeling here if you like.

But know this....we can spot a genuine post and a clickbait troll one too.

Have a nice day.

If you are wondering I think its obvious that I am buying an Amico for myself, one for my two sons and one for my ex's youngest son.

Just not all at once.

its a great question,  I used to really piss off some of my friends by acting as if I jumped on bandwagon of their favorite team when they made championship runs. I'd pop over at parties to watch games wearing their favorite teams hats and stuff.  it was really funny for some of us, but hell some guys got so upset and pissed, ( You aint a real fan... blah blah) you would of thought I kicked their puppy and shit on their pool table.  I stopped after a few times but it was kinda scary how people take tribalism/fanbooism so serious.

With regard to video gaming its even weirder. As a gamer I hope for every system to kick ass, simply because if someone make a system with great games I will buy that system.  I dont care who makes it, why should I.

I’ve tried to think of where these types of behavior stem as well, but think it comes down to something as simple as just making noise and getting a reaction. I’ll gladly take that belief over them being truly that ignorant and thinking that much of themselves (but I may be giving them too much credit).

I’ll probably kick myself for not getting the Founder’s, but I have this prudential complex of waiting until the second model comes out to compare it to the first. May be a model one buyer this time around, depending on what I see this summer. So, with the Xbox 360, the E series was the strongest model although certainly the hardest to homebrew, while with the Wii, the second model lost GC compatibility that the first (Revolution #1) had which was a big deal. I’m not sure what it means but I own six GC compatible Wiis in four colors.

Watch "Meet Amico™ - Missile Command w/controllers!" on YouTube

Here ya go

Not an exaggeration to say the kiddo and I loved this! The siren kind of gave the Mrs. the creeps a little, but she was very intrigued by the top/bottom of screen versus scenario, as it was described.

Personally, the more I see the controller in action, the more interested I am to see the different ways the games will be designed to make use of it. Every time Tommy mentions Texas Hold 'em in an interview, I start thinking about how great it would be to get a poker night back together without climbing back to the attic for my chips

Also, some random questions, because I've been living this week on power naps and coffee, and it's made me slightly more random than usual:

-Tommy, again I thank you for answering my previous question about Baseball for the Amico. I'm personally super-psyched to see the finished product, but wanted to pick your brain on a few more ideas:

Will it have a HR Derby mode? If so, what is your favorite iteration of HR Derby?

Will there be the option for day or night games? Perhaps a 'double-header' option, where the first game is day and the second night?

If I recall correctly, you're a Yankees fan, correct? Have you been tempted to put navy pinstripes on a white console?

This one for my father - would there be a possible '1972 mode', where no teams have a Designated Hitter? Seriously, a yes here would sell him a console immediately!

-For the community in general, what would your ideal play through of AD&D be like, as you imagine it? For myself, I'm probably taking point while my son shoots into every dark corridor blind, and my wife lags slightly back to look for any potential item we may have missed. Actually, on that subject, is there the potential for hidden items in an explored room? I know that wasn't part of the original, but how cool would it be to find a chest hidden behind a wall or under a boulder?

-I'm not sure if I'm remembering this correctly, but was there talk of a potential 4-player Joust coming out down the line? If so, any chance of that being a 2020 title?

Lastly, I did want to mention how awesome Pete's interview with Tommy was! I know I'm a little late to the party on this, but all the praise in the world to you two for that one. Totally cool to see the reaction about the cards in the physical media portion of the interview. I was cracking up watching it!

One last note: my son just got a GAME OVER in Dr. Mario, and turned to tell me he "doesn't think he's much of a doctor." 5-year-olds have the best way of looking at things, no?

Hahahaha.   I was just in the car with my girlfriend getting groceries and she said that I better watch it with my forum posts or John Alvarado will think I have a crush on him.

I said nah...he knows I'm just a big fan.  And the restraining order says I can't even be in the same state as him anyway.
