Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

So I just watched the latest Pat and Ian video on YouTube where they each gave their opinions about which console they'd play for the rest of their life should there only be one.

To my surprise it wasnt bad at all, but what struck me most was Ian's argument about the PC Engine and GameBoy being the ones he'd choose, mainly because of the type of game he enjoys, shooter and mahjong games, but also that:

he could have access to many games that he can play for short periods of time and have fun with (45 mins);

he can log his scores in;

they are simple games that he can access quickly;

boot up time;

He finally went a chose the PC Engine because he prefers to have a game console for TV.

Seems to me that if a shooter game and a mahjong game was made available on Amico, he'd like it

😉

I've thought about this before. I have many game consoles, handhelds, and PC's to play games. If I had to pick just one to play for the rest of my life, I don't think I could choose one. But if someone were to look at all my gaming devices and say "That is the only one you can play for the rest of your life" I'd be ok with any of them.

They went with hating it at the start (probably not too surprising from someone self proclaiming to be a “NES Punk”) and instead of being open to input got out the shovel and dug in at every opportunity. Quite likely they would love some games in the Amico, probably dislike some and would be fine with a bunch of others - you know like pretty much any normal person - but that will never be admitted. If the Amico is a success it will be down to “stupid mobile players who will buy anything” or some other excuses, if it fails they will be dancing in the street and proclaiming what geniuses they were by not actually doing anything, just running down someone else’s idea.

They did just get a new investor who was placed on the Board of Atari SA - maybe they brought some money to bail them out of the VCS mess and that is why things are suddenly moving a bit. According to my back of napkin math, I think they are at best breaking even on the base unit and are only making a few bucks on the $400 ish combo controller pack. If they can ramp their volume up that might work itself out but considering their less than stellar reputation and feeble software library, I don’t see these flying out of the warehouse.

Tommy,

If you put an SD card into the Amico and download a digital game, will it go directly onto the SD card?  Or will it go onto the flash memory?  Hopefully there are options of where to save a game to.  Because on the Nintendo Switch, if you're using an SD card, the game downloads & saves right on the card.

Yo!,

If anyone has any "controversial" or "tough" questions for me... please make sure to send them to @MADMAXMOVIES1 by tonight so he can ask me during our interview.

You can also leave them in the video comments on the video below where he called out Pat & Ian for not having the courage to just ask me themselves.   :)

Here's the video to leave your questions.  All haters and misinformers welcome to ask as many of their "tough" questions as they'd like.  Unlike some folks... I'm not afraid and don't hide.  Besides, when you tell the truth... you don't have anything to hide from.

Gee after all of these interviews with the comment sections with haters and sometimes even hosted by anti Amico people - why haven’t the REAL questions ever been asked yet? OK answer me this Mr Tallarico:

Pizza - pineapple or not?

Required new pet: Miniature elephant or giant hamster?

Peanut butter or Nutella - permanent life choice?

Hamilton or SPAMalot?
Is white chocolate really chocolate?

Your wife wants to name your first child after her grandmother Gertrude - yes or no? What if it is a boy?

I just spent far too much time answering 10 questions that weren’t even trying to be impartial why did I do it I don’t really know I suppose because the way the questions were written pissed me off lol.  I realize these people are not journalists or anything but questions should be impartial and focused on obtaining information one would think and not focused on trying to tear down and inflame the person that the questions are being aimed at. However I guess the days of treating people the way you would want to be treated are largely behind us.  With all the negativity in the world today I don’t think like many will say we need Mr. Rogers now more than ever I think what we really need if we want to see change on the world is for the millions of people from the different generations who grew up with Mr. Rodgers to exemplify those things he thought us and be a force for positive change

Are there any non-loud intros to the Amico? I'm not interested in watching youtube at ADHD speeds and cranked to AMP 11. And I don't want any ridiculous bashing he-said vids either. Just show me some professional clips Bob Ross style.

@Tommy Tallarico

Here is a tough question:

Where are the Amico branded wallets since you still haven't hired someone to actually build your Amico and my wallet has been chewed to bits. Now I need a new one and hopefully it comes with a  nice belt chain. 😉

Took me almost 40 years to buy my Heavy Sixer... I just don't see me buying this thing.

No.  It was pre-recorded.  I can tell you that it was over 3 hours long and EVERY ridiculous anti-Amico question was answered (and a few good ones as well).

He's splitting it up into 2 parts.

Intellivision Master will post them within 1 minute of their release!!   :)

Yes Shoot em Ups are still very popular for many Hardcore Gamer and Star Soilder was an awesome Shmup alone for this game you can buy the PC Engine Mini. Also the R-Type Series :) :) :), the Darius Series (Was again in most sold Shmups Games on Steam this week and last Taito Type X Arcade Game comes to the Switch :) and PS4 later this year). Shoot em Ups yes they are for Hardcore Gamer but as Tommy wants to bring an R-Type (maybe PS1 R-Type Delta into 2D Port that would be so awesome) I think a lot of Shmup Fans will get an Amico for this game. And wouldn`t it be great if Tommy brings back the Thunderforce Series with Sega and M2 :). M2`s great Contra and Gradius games on WiiWare. Still play them very often and both are the main reasons that I still have the Wii connected to my TV.

How did you find this?  I searched for the video and it's not there.  I should've been subscribed to his channel then the video would've shown up.  Oh well.  Maybe I can get the next part uploaded.  I like that Tommy did an interview with Dr. Doom.  Lol.

I, too, would like some professional vids showing walk-throughs of the production versions for promotional purposes.  Getting a bit tired of all the mud-slinging.  At this point I am just waiting for the console and games to be released.  Let's get to that and see how everything all shakes out.

For those not having hours and hours listening everything about Amico,
here is something I heard for the first time.

What do you think about it ? Tommy is saying that they have this possibility. Do you like the idea or not and why ?

Here is the sequence (50:18  to 51:24)

Have a nice day everyone.

I think it's fine.  I like the idea because it's different and it'll make the Amico stand out more.

I would love the idea of not having a monolithic estore for everyone especially when the system takes off and you have a lot of games in development at once. You would still have the one release being promoted at a time, just to each owner customized by their preferences. So maybe a retro game and and edutainment game are released at the same day technically but they are pushed to two different groups. Then after the week or so of exclusive time for the retro game being pushed to retro fans, the edutainment game shows up in my feed. Alternately maybe the retro game gets the big splash page to me but a simple kick on 'Other new games' lets me see the edutainment title that also just came out (meanwhile it is the big new game being promoted to people who buy a lot of edutainment games and the retro game is in 'other'). Less waiting to get things we may be more interested in sounds good to me.

I don't see Street Fighter being a good fit for us.  Metal Slug potentially maybe... down the road though.

Yeah.. I can see why Street fighter would not fit. Same with most of the other fighting games. Although Divekick would be a hoot... More of a parody than a true fighting game.

I didn't think Metal Slug would fit.. But I'm not going to argue!
