Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

I wonder if this month we'll get the reveal of the 6th pack in game?  Or perhaps a confirmation for a 7th game?  If I remember correctly, Tommy said there could be as many as 8 pack in games.  That would be great.  I was happy with just the original 5, but the more the merrier.

The way I see it is that 6 games is a lot and enough to hit the ground running. It would keep us retro dorks happy, but also be a solid family system to play at get togethers. Having everyone playing the 6 would buy time for them to touch up and wrap up the bigger titles. I personally know the anticipation for that first game release is gonna be big and the slow release will keep the excitement roaring.

So I saw that Pat the NES Punk is going through some IE job posts on ZipRecruiters.

I guess he'd love to be an employee 😊

Haha those guys are boneheads. The funny thing is I haven't subscribed to them but they show up in my feed because I'll watch a little bit of a video to see what they're gonna say this time. I like the format of two people talking juicy tech rumors and info, but then they poison it with their negativity and pessimism. Even my gf who doesn't even know about them or my videos has commented "oh those are the guys that are too negative". Lol.

@Tommy Tallarico You should call Pat the NES Punk to say that you received his resume and wanted to know if he'd be available for an interview

Posting this BEFORE @Intellivision Master!!!

Muhahahahaahaa!!

🥰😇

So this demo is incredible. I'm actually running through the older Diablo's now and this gives me similar, and cool vibes. I think the graphics are great and I dig the neon color trailing theme that we are seeing here and from night stalker. The sound is so crisp and engaging (Tommy is showing off there LOL).

One thing I would suggest is the snakes sounded great and scary, but they didn't pop out and hit my eyes. I think they could use some darker outlines? Maybe just me? What do you guys think? Regardless... I'm very excited for this one.

I am also wondering if the dual pack of controllers that have been talked about will come with a charging station. Maybe one pack with a charging station and one without ?

We may not have those available on launch (2 controllers with charging station), but something we are working on and trying to find ENGINEERS for.  We may have even put out a job description or two to help with certain things like this.

:)

And just to be 100% clear, we will definitely have extra controllers available at launch... but the 2 w/docking/charging will not be on launch (which we have never officially promised).

:)

I thought this was interesting.  I agree, games should be shorter.  Who has time to devote 1,000 hours to a game?  Lol.

With games on Amico, you just jump in and jump out.  Nothing like short and sweet.

I just finished Last of Us 2 in 38 hours. Half way through I was thinking "man this is cool, but please be over soon". I'm definitely gonna slow down on buying AAA titles. Not enough time in the month for them.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_mobile_games

I came across this list, and it really shined a light on something Tommy talks about quite a bit.  I think we get stuck in our own little bubbles or our own views of the world. Tommy says the focus testing says this, or the data tells us that...  Critics make videos or post endless comments about "mobile graphics" and that nobody wants that. The numbers in the list of highest grossing mobile games seems to indicate differently.

Clash of Clans has grossed more than $6.4 billion.  That's billion, with a "b".  But who plays Clash of Clans? I don't. Nobody I know plays it. I don't see people on Twitter or comment sections hyping it up, but yet it has grossed more than Grand Theft Auto V (which has recently claimed title the "most valuable entertainment product" of all time). Tommy's favorite mobile game, Roblox, has brought in over $1.5 billion. Compare those numbers to console/PC games. Compare them to blockbuster movies.

Perhaps IE is on to something by trying to tap into this market that so many people think doesn't exist.

Exactly.  I've been screaming from the mountain tops about this for about 3 years now.  Mobile DWARFS both PC & home console gaming.

Amazing that some of these self-proclaimed "experts" who declare how wrong and stupid we are (and how there is NO MARKET for us) don't even acknowledge or recognize reality.  Stuck in their own incredulous bubbles trapped by their bias and narcissism.

Reminds me of this screen grab someone sent me...

Yeah... OK buddy.  Everyone should pay attention to what you say because you're so knowledgeable about the video game industry.

😱🤣💩🤡

The saddest part is that all anyone needs to do is take all of 5 seconds to just Google game industry facts and money or player statistics.  They are everywhere.
Especially when it's your so-called job and you are supposed to be a self-proclaimed expert that you expect people to listen to.

Talk about LAZY!

Ah ha! Tommy was finally caught in a lie, as I already know for a fact that I will be able to buy an additional two controllers with a charger at launch.  It even comes with an extra Amico console 🤣

Damn!  Foiled again!!

QUICK!!  Someone make a MEME about it!  Or better yet... lets waste more of our free time and make a video that 5 people will see.

:D
:D
:D

No wonder there have been less AtariVCS MEME's lately.  Those folks over in the UK need to step up their game.  Not only are we going to beat Atari in units sold... but hate MEME's too! (sorry... PARODY MEME's)

😁🥰

I believe Tommy's most egregious lie, "... while J is a friend, it isn't J."  LIE!!!

My first job for him would be to write a factual report on the state of the video game industry.  How many people are playing which kinds of devices and how much money is generated in each of the categories.

:)

I gotta tell you all something hilarious though!

We got a really good resume from a person yesterday who has a ton of experience who said he watched their recent video and knew immediately that they were reading and interpretting everything completely wrong.  So after unsubscribing from their channel (he said they used to be good a few years ago, but now come across as a bunch of bitter curmudgeonly old men) he sent us his resume as he is a big believer in what we're doing.

The guy has incredible experience and our team is interviewing with him on Monday!

Would be pretty funny if we end up hiring him.

Wouldn't That Be Something?

:)

I agree.  All of the enemy art is strictly placeholder for now.  It's only about 50% of what it's going to be!

On my part I need those two kind of games.  Those short and sweet like Shark Shark, Ski Cross, Auto Racing and Missile Command.

But I also want to advance in some games, like Moon Patrol, Cloudy Mountain, etc.

Probably we will also have games that will satisfy both types of games.

A game like Night Stalker will probably have kind of a story mode, and also quick arcade play that you are choosing which level you want to play with or against friends.

So lets say between 3 and 7 hours could be good.

But one thing is sure, I don't have enough free time for a 50 hours + for one game ! 😬

We are definitely trying to strike a balance between short pick up and play... and longer adventures.  Couch co-op gives us that opportunity to make almost everything easy pick up and play... while single player can provide hours of entertainment on its own as well.  And then some games (Night Stalker, Cloudy Mountain, that DOLPHIN game...  for examples) can provide hours of multiplayer fun as well.

At the game level, Amico covers many different aspects of game types; at the console level, Amico supports the different types of games that are made for it. The console literally will have something for everyone.

First tenet of Amico, “Simple”.  It doesn't get simpler than that; eggshells aside.

But, I’m finding that Amico is like having to go to the bathroom really, really bad; the closer you get to “your destination”, the worse the anticipation becomes.

All good. If I pick up 6 extra controllers will I be able to buy the charging docks at a later date if and when they get released ?

Hey Tommy,

Did you ever address if you would allow games like Metal Slug or Street Fighter on the system? I'm not much of a fighter fan, but there are a lot of people that do like them.  I doubt things like Mortal Kombat or Killer Instinct games could make it on Amico. But Super Street Fighter or a brawler like King of the Monsters may fit your guidelines. Just wondering.

Hi Tommy,

A question about games involving controller motion.

I'm curious about how games like cornhole and shuffleboard will play, specifically the feeling of ‘weight’. In PSVR, there are a lot of games where everything seems weightless, and disproportional strength. Gorn and drunkn bar fight are good examples of this. Where as games like everybodys golf vr feels fantastic. Have the developers honed in on this?

PSVR is fantastic, but a very singular experience most of the time.

Calcio Storico Florentino would be a fantastic game 😏 it would never be released on amico, perhaps a intellivision entertainment release on psvr 2?
