Yo Stoke!!,

Thanks for posting and joining in the conversation!

Oddly enough... we're going through those same FREEZING tests as well!  :)

I love that you're not a gamer and the system has caught your attention.  Further proof of how big our audience can be!

QUESTION:  Where did you first hear about Amico?

Thank you for the kind words and support.  We wanted to approach Amico in a very different and transparent way.  We wanted to take folks on the journey with us.

Thank you for being a part of the community and please let me know if you ever have any questions.

Hope to see you around more!

Tommy,

I can't remember how I found out about it, as it was over 2 years ago.  I think it was a news story about a new Intellivision coming out in 2020. I do remember finding the Amico website and joining the mailing list very early on.  Sorry that I can't be of more help.  I know it would help you with marketing.

Good to hear you are still freezing Intellivisions . . . I think.

I marked up @CurlyQ latest "I Spy" Amico picture - did I miss anything?

Damn son, you've got a good eye! 😉👍

The dots on the desk are morse code. You'll have to copy the code below:

.---- ----- .---- ----- ..--- ----- ..--- -----

and then paste it into this online morse code translator to find out what it means.

P.S. Snake is a badass!

Hah I actually thought about Morse code but the pattern was so regular I discounted it. I was thinking Morse code would look something like this: -.-. ..- .-. .-.. -.-- --.- -...- --. . -. .. ..- ...

In one of the last linked videos, someone brought up a desire for a D&D dice game on the Amico.  I personally would love that, as each person could control their own character and roll the dice with their own controller.  Now a D&D campaign or module takes more than a 15 minute session, however you could do little quests or some character leveling in short amounts of time and save the real questing for longer sessions.  That sounds so fun to me, and if Intellivision were able to secure the D&D license for Cloudy Mountain, perhaps they could secure a license for an actual campaign/module/series.  That could be an awesome couch coop experience!

Somebody mentioned Imagic games, and I think White Water would adapt well to the Amico with maybe 4-6 players paddling in a raft.

That sounds really cool to me.👍😀

Tommy, a question comes to mind.

With all the different style we can have with the controller for a baseball game, you already said it could be possible to have 2 or 3 baseball games.

The deal with MLB is it for one particular game, or it could be for more games ?

Thank you.

I like that idea. There have been many fun baseball games, and other sports titles, over the years...with many different styles of play. It’d be a blast to have more choices, at least down the road. For example, you have Intellivision NHL Hockey and then the NES hockey with the average guys, big guys and skinny guys. Very different games and both fun.

I didn't know the American Cornhole League was a thing 😁

Yes!  I mentioned it in another thread, but two students at my university won the ACL's College Cornhole Doubles National Championship last year.  I agree with Brett Weiss's latest video (and thanks to @Intellivision Master for posting it!): it would be a mistake to downplay the Cornhole license, because the game is bigger than most may realize.

I would love this ..maybe a hardcore mode for serioys d&d players  ome some cool graphical aspects to video gameify it more.  But this would be a killer title.  Id  buy as soon as hit the amico store.

Yeah I've gathered, it's probably bigger in the U.S. than here in Canada, we have curling which is a niche sport but which is pretty big up here (Tommy any curling games coming?  Maybe  an association with the World Curling Federation?)  I guess if Amico is the only console that has ACL as a sponsor it could draw in fans of the sport as they play their favorite pastime at home with friends and family.  I could it see it doing well.

I think here is the formula for success!  Several parts D&D modules, 1 part Superman, 1 part Dragon Warrior.  Let's make it so, Engage!

Whoa! Congrats on the MLB licence, Tommy! There hasn't been a good baseball (especially licensed) game outside of the PlayStation arena in forever. Instabuy for me. Not a big baseball fan but I love baseball videogames. Currently the only good one I have is Reggie Jackson Baseball on Sega Master System, so that's going back a bit!

I think cornhole could be somewhat of a Wii Bowling for the Amico, but as far as the license, it reminds me of the Intellivision license for Backgammon back in the day. Doubt the license sold a ton more of Backgammon. To a degree, name licensing is like a explaining a joke. If you have to explain it, a ton is lost in the process. MLB is huge because MLB (and for some of us, Intellivision history). A very small population is familiar with ACL (I wasn't). I like the license because it's a nod back to ABPA Backgammon, but much as the ABPA didn't sell billions of Intellivision Backgammon (people weren't familiar with that organization), the ACL name won't sell this game either to a significant degree. Wii Bowling didn't have PBA attached to it (unless I'm mistaken). Regardless, it delivered, and that was because of compelling gameplay.

Ultimately, the games need to be compelling. I am a fan of the throwback "what is that?!" level of Intellivision licensing, though. Intellivision lives!

I could be wrong. The "explaining the joke" factor is there. The amount of people (in the US anyway) that have ever played baseball, or softball, or tee-ball, in any way, and don't know about MLB is minimal. The amount of people who haven't played any related sport at any level but know about Major League Baseball (might be as simple as "Professional Baseball" in their mind, but it's MLB) is very, very high. I'm not knocking the license at all. It's a cool throwback to Intellivision backgammon, where lots of people were familiar with the game but not so much about the league. I think ACL is a positive.

Don't mistake appeal for cornhole with the ACL. The ABPA wasn't the primary focus for most people who loved Backgammon around 1980. Same thing now. Again, if you have to explain it, impact is lost big time. Not a lot of explaining (regionally anyway) for MLB.

Regarding the Cornhole license... it depends on what Amico gets for it beyond just a game on the console.

I’ve only watched it in recent weeks but what I see is guys standing in a very regulated area and not moving around a lot until changing sides.

If there’s an Amico ad on one of those banners (which aren’t digital, so they don’t change that I’m aware of) that’s a lot of eyeballs on an ad throughout a match.

By comparison, I’m watching an AFL game right now and their advertising around the playing field is digital and constantly changes, along with constant changes in camera angles to follow play. I don’t think that happens as much in Cornhole so your banner gets good visibility if it’s within a great camera angle. The organization can probably be pretty dang specific with how much camera time you’ll get based on where your banner is.

I don’t think, back in the day, there were backgammon tourneys on TV. So for me, any comparison with that doesn’t quite fit.

I think it will become more clear to all of us once Tommy comes along and explains (if he can at this point) what these relationships with Cornhole and MLB will mean as far as visibility at games, and if there’s a player/Amico TV commercial partnership.

But picture a TV ad during a Cornhole match with some of the top players having a great time at home with their families playing the Amico version while it’s pouring rain outside. (Dare I even ponder an ACL-branded Amico?)

Then do the same thing with Curling in Canada. And whatever sport is popular to a wide number of people (but isn’t a “major” sport) in whichever countries the Amico is eventually moving into.

MLB's reach is farther than most people would expect, I think. They show MLB stuff on the news inside trains here. I guess Japanese people like the MLB or something.

Yes, and I also see many people making the mistake of thinking that people who plays the real game would not play the video game as much, or more in winter time when they couldn’t play the actual game. I belive it is the opposite, people who likes/plays the real game a lot, would be more prone to like/play the video game version, regardless of wether conditions, since they are two different experiences that are not competing with each other. Like the skiing game, I don’t see why I would play that game less during the winter, just because I have the possibility to do the actual sport, as one is not a substitute for the other.
