Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Recommended Posts

Hi tommy,

in the second video, one of your team member mentioned that the console is designed to last generations, which it will, especially with no moving parts.

one thing that will guarantee this is if you DONT use the electrolytic capacitors pictured. They are a disaster. After 20 years, they leak current and then go open circuit. The next stage, they physically leak acid over the board, rotting everything in its path. This has destroyed many a mac, amiga. Its a well known issue. Thought id bring it to your attention, as i fully support the console outlasting me. Use tantalum smd capacitors instead. The price is very similar

Tommy kinda did but I agree, it should have probably been in red, flashing and bounced on the screen (or at least one of those ;)). Some people just aren't used to seeing raw game play and not slick cinematic (often times of not even real render engine stuff). Personally I love it because I get to see the game progress and get more refined, but not everyone gets it.

That's an understatement!  Hahahha!

Yay! So excited to see a lengthy sneak peek at the newest iteration of Biplanes with similar physics to the original. Also loving the board / party game treatment. It's clear the team knows what will work with a group of people, and the best way to present it. Seeing the progress on Skiing, Shark Shark, Night Stalker, Cloudy Mountain, MLB Baseball, and Snafu almost make me happy that the launch was delayed. I'd much rather see the games get refined and tweaked to their absolute best before being released out to the masses. Hopefully this also means more time to acquire new licenses and plant some more Easter Eggs :)

Thank you!  I appreciate it!

This looks neat.  Perhaps it could be on Amico.

thanks for posting this... I just added it to my Retropie build.  What a fun arcade game.  I forgot about this one!

After seeing the controller in action, could we please get modern versions of Gyruss and Time Pilot? Those games would play really well with the disc! Both games are still a blast to play, but the arcade originals had Monroe joysticks, and standard joysticks don't do them justice. The Amico controller is perfect though. You have to admit Tommy, that Gyruss soundtrack is still amazing.

This is a Mac Classic II motherboard that has been destroyed by these little bastards. The second image are the tantalums. They stay stable for WAY longer and never leak

Yo!

Check it out!  Let me know if you have any questions and what you think the product should be called!

This is really cool! It would be fun if the LEDs on the console flickered like the candles. I like the 'treat yo self' aspect of the free game and the ability to gift games to someone. Very convenient that my birthday is close to the launch date 😂

One thing I thought of, as far as holidays go, will the main menu of Amico have a theme to go with it? Like on Roku for example, the menu theme changes for Halloween, Christmas and sometimes for seasons.

Good to know you can choose the free game on your birthday.

Sounds good on the surface but I already know how this is going to work out: "Happy Birthday Grudge! You Get a Free Game!". "Thanks Amico, let me open the store and get my free game... Hmm already purchased, already purchased, already purchased, oh what about... already purchased, already purchased, already purchased...." ;)

Well, I'm not buying every game.  So, I'll have some choices.

So@Tommy Tallarico so a few weeks back on oeb petes podcast( under my real name walter)  i asked you about the xfl  football game  mainly because the rock just purchased it and what a spomespersom hw and the xfl would be for amico.

But i thought of something just as cool.or cooler...at least in my opinion.

Remember  the game comixzone on genesis?

What if you  got a celebrity license which was a major sega move that got them attention.

But say you license  the rocks likeness for  a game like that...but instead of comics you battle through  action movies ( this can go from top down 3d to side scroll shooter to platforming racing and so on.  Throw some  jabs like tooth feery references. For fun jokes in game.

Like you said when licensing brands its about sometimes more so on what makes sense as in the scope that brand reaches.

As of past week or so the rock is officially  the most followed  person on social media in America. And has a huge global following with  children to adults. And in many circles from. Movies   wwe, to out reach programs such as the special.olympics and other youth groups.     Hes over 200 million followers.

I remember  action platformers on SNES with  shaq  and micheal.jordon. micheal hackson not the best games lol sure although jordons was kinda fun in a cheesy way. And like moonwalker

But  having a huge action star in his own action game would be  cool  to anyone.

Call.it ActionZone or something like that.

I am just on this slippery slope where I know I am getting MLB, Evel Knievel, Cloudy Mountain and Night Stalker but them someone says something like "hey I thought Snafoo looked cool" and I am thinking, "yeah Snafoo looks cool probably need to get it" and then "I need to pick up Blank Slate for playing over the holidays" and pretty soon I realize I am going to be down to getting Grover's Math Fun for my free Birthday game. 🤣

Lol  ill be getting most of the games. With exception of simple games design for children.   Will pick up edutainment titles that are fun for adults though.

Oooo ooo ooo Sinistar while we're dealing with games that used 49-way joys of yesteryear :)

edit : Thought the Monroe sticks were the 49-way sticks, but basically 8 way leaf sticks with round restrictor plates. My Sinistar suggestion stands.

I live close to beach and had my original X-Box die from a circuit trace corrosion issue, so that sucked. My old boss lived on the beach and he said his stereos only lasted a year or two; not sure what kind of receivers he was buying but no way could I pay for the receivers I buy every year; of course if you can afford to live on the beach...

And for those of us who have the personality sickness quirk that says, “Well, I already have most of the Amico games, so I might as well have the complete collection”, Grover, Big Bird, and the rest of the Sesame gang will be easy to justify. After all, it’s to complete the collection. (Plus, Grover is cool.)

It just occurred to me... the Amico (regular edition) releases on tax day in the U.S. For those of us getting money back, a mass purchase of every launch title would be easy to justify, too.

Wonder if Tommy and the crew would consider a launch week special... every launch game in one purchase package for some kind of discount. I’d be soooo tempted.

You're backwards here!

A free game on birthdays is awesome! If the FE launches/gets shipped on April 3rd, that means I'll hopefully have a free launch game since my birthday is on the 7th. Hopefully it makes it to me in time!

Anyway, yeah, I played the Breakout demo for a while. I wish there was more to it, but that's what demos are for, so I guess that's a good sign.

I'm guessing at the beginning of the new year... but nothing set in stone just yet.  We are waiting to show off all our accessories at the same time... including our physical media and other cool surprises.

I want it all !! Lol

Assuming I get 6 extra controllers and there are no charging stations at launch, would I have to charge them all on the Amico ?
