Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Finally watched the video today.  It was very impressive to see the behind-the-scenes of the design and what went into it.  I always wondered what it took in modern society to design something new, and innovative and how much thought goes into it.  It was great to see some of the 3d modeling and what some of the inner workings of the design look like, thanks for that.  As with any new console, you often wonder how well it's made and how long it will last... looks like the Amico is built for the long-haul.  The controller looks well made, and with all the little faucets that you guys designed into it, appears to be one impressive piece of gaming technology right in your palm.

I'm happy to see big name manufacturing going into the production as well.  Qualcomm and Ark are both very good/solid name brands when it comes to technology.  Ark has always been the supporter of producing both smaller and larger design projects, along with very good quality in most anything they produce.  Great choice.  I guess I need to buy more Qualcomm stock!!

Game video was great.  So much pop to many of the games.  Some have a little too much, but I can see games like Skiing, AD&D, Nitro and Biplanes being a lot of fun right out of the "box".  Looking forward to those.   Good to see a large genre menu as well.  Kids, teens, adults and seniors all look like they're well represented.

Thanks for the video, I'm looking forward to more and can't wait till April!

I felt bad for Tommy during the live stream, wonder what the issue was. Was he running it through an old Intellivision Entertainment Computer System :). I have been there and done that at my job (Tech crapping out on me, not use an ECS).  Tech is a bitch sometimes.

I too own Qualcomm (my second biggest holding behind Mastercard), so I was stoked when he said the Amico is using the Snapdragon. I have owned QCOM for a couple years, and it has been on fire lately.

The games are looking good. You can see the progress in the early games like Shark!Shark! I actually stopped the video to read the shop items during the Cloudy Mountain part of the video, and Biplanes reminded me of the good old days.  MLB looked like an updated version of the classic.  I hope that the crowd gets some animation when it is completed.  Also, I hope Cloudy Mountain auto generates the game so it is different every time.  Maybe a level creator?

Unfortunately I can't play the Breakout demo on my PC.  My anti-virus software says the files are not safe.  That's a shame.  😥

You should be able to get the antivirus program to give you the option to run it.

Tommy,

In the re-imagined Night Stalker, when the invisible robots show up, will there be a way to know where they are?  I never played the original, so I was wondering with the new version if you can know their location via some kind of hint on screen?  Maybe the controller vibrates to let you know they're close by?  Or the controller lights up a certain color?

With intellivision night stalker there is a way to sometimes locate the invisible robot.

It's a good question.  Will Amico Night Stalker have an invisible robot?

I got the warning too, but those are just the system being overly cautious. . .you should be OK allowing or whitelisting the files. It's just asking you to verify you trust the source of the file.

2nd gen, Sega and the big three have had similar hiccups in their early and recent days. We probably would have seen a lot more of them if they hadn't started before the internet age took off. The product, product support and continued quality for many years are what is really important.

Although I feel, you. It must have been really frustrating going through that, but just saying he is in good company. I'm not savvy at all about the streaming stuff. Could have been a bottleneck somewhere in the server line or Youtube itself, which is far from reliable, or even the computer deciding to do some background root diagnostic.

I'm able to download the zip file.  When I extract it, the anti-virus starts removing all the files that were extracted.  I need to find a way to stop that before it happens.  There must be a setting to fix it.

Can you disable the program or otherwise turn the antivirus off before extracting?

What directory are you putting it in? Have you tried extracting it directly into the C:\ root drive?

Open up your antivirus interface and looks for something like the “virus vault” or “detection log” or something like that - usually you can click (or right click) on the entry and have the option to restore/whitelist the file

It puts the files in quarantine.  From there I can get them back but it gives a warning that the files could be harmful to the computer.

That is 99% likely because it is simply a program it hasn’t seen before and it probably isn’t signed. This is just your anitivirus being overly protective.

It just thinks this because it is an exe files and viruses sometimes take the form of exe (executable) files. I don't know how it chooses but some exe files it thinks are viruses and others are not. Sometimes the antivirus just seems to get a bug up it's ass about a legitimate exe file.

I was extracting it from File Explorer.  I don't think I tried the C:\root drive.

I just ran Breakout.exe through VirusTotal (multiple engine, online virus checker) came out clean - your antivirus program is being what we in the IT industry call "a little bitch". ;)

Great tech support to be found here, and I’d ask how to get around my issue but I can already hear the jokes.

My issue; I got a Mac.

Queue the jokes in 5, 4, 3...

Awesome videos tommy. Smart move using arm architecture, macs will be using them soon enough too.

watched it with my wife and shes very excited for the amico. A good spread of games that does a excellent job of showcasing what the amico is about.

missile command looks a lot less hectic than the last video. I really liked the industrial design section, explaining how its physically constructed, and attention to detail with selection of materials.

Mine is a smidge newer then this model.

For the record, I so used to not be a mac guy when these were the current model. I was solely a PC guy; then the iPods came out, then I got an iPhone, then an iPad, then iMac (and then apple TV, apple air pods, apple air pod pro’s, then mac book, subscribed to Apple Music (yea, I’m all in, no hope)) AND THEN- Windows XP got replaced, and thats When I got rid of our PC.
