Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Recommended Posts

I have a question regarding VIP preorders from Europe (Austria).

I am from Austria and preordered my VIP woodgrain edition on April 2.

This was before preordering was available in Europe by MediaMarkt. (Also I see that the woodgrain is not offered on the European preorder site on www.intellivisionamico.com.)

Does this mean that my VIP woodgrain edition, once available, will be sent from the USA to Austria and that I have to pay all the customs charges and so on?

Or will the VIP editions outside the USA be delivered by the nearest Intellivision sales subsidiary?

Ive emailed kevin regarding this. Its looking like we will be paying for postage at this stage, which could effectively double the price of our amicos, bringing it right into ps5 money.

at best postage will be $100USD.

i hope it is shipped via distributors, as the release dates are very close.

Double?? I can’t imagine the postage being hundreds of dollars? If it is more than 25$ it would be cheaper to cancel my preorder as well and order from a European dealer instead.

Tommy, when IE will ask us if we still want our order before shipping, will your team will know the cost for each delivery so people will make an informed choice before deciding !?

Thank you.

How about a Super Bowl LV ad for the Amico?

(I know, I know, very original.)

Or perhaps one for Puppy Bowl XVII would be more your guys' style? Although the network might have already filmed that earlier in October...

Considering the cost of Super Bowl add space my guess is it would probably be year 2nor 3 before that happened or you’d be using up a huge chunk of advertising budget on one add

I hope your right. Just going to wait and see what IE confirms, they're working it out as we speak.

a little off topic , but in case you were waiting and didnt get the email, the mini replica of Dragons lair arcade game is finally available.  I just grabbed mine.

They are killing me with releasing this right after the Asteroids one.  I was hoping they would space the release out so I could pay off my previous orders!  I just finished paying for the Tempest & Street Fighter order and they dropped the Asteroids.  Had to get the one of each bundle and the one regular (because I have to have one to open and one to keep sealed).  Now I need to get 2 Dragons Lairs and one more Tempest (missed out on getting the second Street Fighter)! I’m waiting to see if they do a free shipping promo after the Asteroids pre-sale is over.  Shipping for the three of those came to $58!

Loved the video on using the lighting effects on the Amico console. I have one more example.  What if the Amico console was your B-17 bomber.  A German fighter sweeps in from the left side and strafes your bomber.  Now you see bullet holes on the left side of your console. Or, a fighter comes from behind to take out your tail gunner.   A fire breaks out.  A single red LED starts flickering on the back side of the console and if it goes unnoticed the fire could spread.  This could affect game play without the player knowing if they don’t pay attention as it will not show on the controller or game screen.  Years ago, there wasn’t the technology to know all damage unless you had physical eyes on the problem.  Just a thought.

I love your spreadable fire indicator idea for B-17 Bomber. I was working on a list of some examples too. I broke them down into "Interactive" - stuff you need to pay attention to - vs Status (or maybe Ambient) which are more 'eye candy' and might be prominently represented elsewhere on the screen or controllers. A lot of these have been mentioned elsewhere so I brought those together with the ones I could think of.

Interactive Game Lighting Examples (lighting effects that might impact actual game play)
•    Breathing effect as enemy gets closer (proximity indicator)
•    Left & right ‘arrows’ to point the players in different directions
•    Traffic lights or car racing ‘Christmas tree’ start indicators
•    Color matching Simon like game between the base & the controllers
•    “Next Player Up” color notifications (matches their controller color)
•    Show hidden enemy type by color and/or pattern
•    Act as a rough directional indicator to enemies (somewhat like a HUD radar)
•    Trap warning indicator, turns yellow if you approach a booby trapped door
•    “Needed Next” indicator, if it green you should put on the green robot part next
•    Showing coded patterns for numbers or symbols (maybe for Safecracker)
•    Pre warning of next wave of enemies, color/pattern may indicate type
•    Patient breathing LED effect showing health status in MicroSurgeon

•    1 – 4  player health status by number of LEDs lit and color (LEDs would be lit by different zones for different players) so you would keep an eye on the rough health of other players

•    Timer until a power up/game over (count down or up) like a potion wearing off

Game Status Condition Examples (more ambient stuff you don't necessarily have to pay attention to)
•    Game boat sinking (the blue water gets higher up the console sides)
•    Police car lights for games like Safecracker
•    Victory or defeat light shows
•    Power level meter (red to green and the lights creep up the sides)
•    Animated mouth as the evil boss character speaks
•    Seasonal game modes like white for winter, orange for fall, etc.
•    Mirror player inputs like pressing the flippers on a pinball game
•    Synchronized music light show

All great suggestions!  So many possibilities, limited only by our imaginations.

May take a while for PewDiePie but this was Pete's numbers just back in February 16th of 2020. That is some pretty amazing growth, great job Pete!

Yeah it has been a wild ride for sure... for me it is not about growing as much as the people I am  meeting along the way... so many memories.  I may have to do a retrospective in February of this year on the 1 year anniversary of my AMico coverage :)  All day Stream perhaps

Just a bit off topic...Tommy seems to have the pre-school edutainment covered pretty well.  How about educational games for HS students?  For example, graphic novels (Moby Dick, 1984, Hunt for Red October) that would be 80% text and 20% graphics and mini game play.  Might be showing my age.  Back on the topic of flashing lights - maybe they could be used to create a hypnotic state to get them to read more 🤓

Great Examples!

•    Extra Bonus points for the player that first reacts to the light color of the console on his controller. This could be given asynchronous to the normal gameplay.

•    Instead of extra bonus points also invulnerability could be the gift.

Too bad, the woodgrain is not available from Europe.

With Covid shipping from the States could last forever.

Tommy, at one point you mentioned releasing 1 game every 2 weeks (so approximately 26/year).  Of those, how many can we look forward to being reimagined games?  Having loved the old Intellivision games, I’m hoping to see some of those reimagined titles for 2021, even if the games aren’t quite fully developed yet.  I’m not necessarily talking launch tittles, but going beyond that.

The console LED's could do some of our late 70's early 80's tv show effects.

KITT grill for a Knight Rider game  or  Cylon "eye" for Space Battle: Galactica

KITT and B9 from Lost in space have a square/rectangle shape for talking, but could make it work?  Certainly the controller touch pad screen could do this.
