I think the two biggest issues facing the Amico now are fear of coronavirus causing people to stay home and things like the Dow dropping over 50%.

I don't think the I need a lime virus is that big of problem. Might make exposure harder to reach people, but there's evidently a Plan B.

Now the economy taking a nose dive probably will. That's were keeping the Amico at the original $150 to $180 might have had its benefits.

Karma Engine.

Been thinking about this a lot and I'm curious as to everyone's thoughts on it.

Part of me think it sounds like a way to incorporate the blue turtle shell from Mario Kart into other games thus rubberbanding. Part of me thinks its a fancy modern name for the difficulty switches on the old 2600. Like how some games allowed you to only affect one of the players.

I know it can be turned off etc. but curious to see what others thoughts are.

Mario Kart was ruined the moment they made the AI able to get that damn thing, which was also the moment that it was actually possible to get without getting one of the item boxes that was guaranteed to give it to you. I imagine this was Mario Kart DS, which I have never played, but it wasn't available to the AI in 64 or Super Circuit and I have purged the horribleness of Double Dash from my brain despite owning it. Now you are guaranteed to get hit by that stupid thing in every single race and if you don't have that sound box or whatever there is nothing you can do about it.

I've never been a fan of it since it was introduced.

64. It's basically impossible to get unless you are in last place or your get one of those special item boxes that is guaranteed to give it to you. There are only 2 of those in the game.

8 and 8 Deluxe are considerably less fun now because of it.

The way I imagine the Karma Engine is this:

In Night Stalker if its vs mode and you kill someone like 2 or three times (let's say one hit is a kill) then the person who is loosing will have 3 hits to kill them and you'll still be one hit to kill you.  Also I can see bullets or lasers being slightly bigger meaning easier to hit you.

I thought Tommy may have given the example of Pong where the paddle shrinks for one person and grows for the other.  I think he was just spitballing an idea an not giving a real example but the idea was there.

I still enjoy 8 but yeah I don't like things that make it where you can't push yourself. You will always be X away from other players.

I don't see how Karma will work unless you have objectives. If it is based on points I would think that would be easily exploited and harder to do.

Looks like you beat me before I edited; I have confirmed that there are only 2 item boxes in 64 that are guaranteed to give it to you. I have mixed feelings about 8/8 Deluxe. Good game(s), but the frequency of blue shells is way too high.

I think we will just have to wait to see what the Karma system is and how it works. Maybe it will be like a handicap system like the one used in chess and shogi. But maybe not.

I think if it was as simple as a difficulty switch on the 2600 that would be okay. For example in Human Cannonball you can flip one switch and the person's bucket would be bigger. However, you could make it where player 1 or 2 had different sized buckets.

I could see people trying to exploit it in VS depending on how it is implemented. Also does the Karma Engine work in single mode? If it is there to try and help more casuals keep up with regular games what is there to help them when playing solo?

Tommy said you could manipulate the Karma Engine but you are right next to the person you're doing it to so they will call you out.  I believe it's more for hardcore gamers to play to their best while with significant others or family members and not a way to "game" the system.

These are my thoughts.  I'll try to find the source for Tommy's comment.

Wonder if it's only for vs and Co-op though? If it is only for those modes does that mean there won't be the same thing for those who need it in solo? Or is that just when they hope for an easy mode? 🤣

Watch "Interview With Tommy Tallarico President of Intellivision Discussing The Amico Ft. Victor Lucas" on YouTube

Found it. It's about the 2 hour and 19 minute mark where Tommy talks about the Karma Engine and playing next to people.

Just before that he answers a question stating that you can turn the Karma Engine off.

I am not aware of it being used in single player mode so that would be an awesome question to ask Tommy.

I so want to play a game but I can't decide which one.  I wish the Amico was out now so I could just play one of those games.

What platforms do you have?

Physical Media. I liked the idea of having physical media again. Something I have disliked in the recent generations.

With the announcement you will still need internet just disappoints me that the Amiicos (cards, boxes, figures, manuals, or whatever) will basically just be a more expensive digital purchase. It almost feels less like physical media and more like a fancy giftcard. Same problem I have with buying physical discs for Xbox anymore.

Thoughts?
