Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Recommended Posts

VIP Order # 349_.  ( Almost 3500 people. )

I add an order because one of my friend told me he wants an Amico "wood grain".

Tommy, will it be easy for I.E. to join my two VIP orders together for shipping cost reason ?

Should I mention it at the appropriate time ?

Thank you.

Could everyone do me a favor?

Remember that Bobby Bombastic video someone shared in here?

The company is putting out a ton of short videos about their games and asking if we would like to see them on the Amico.

See the Bobby Bombastic one below.

Could we all go and flood them with request to come to Amico.

And @Tommy Tallarico

Can you give them a "Yo, love your art style..hit us up in our Intellivision Amico website?"

I'm not being pushy. Just asking..

Asking is ok right?

 😄😅🤣

Watch "BOBBY BOMBASTIC - H.E.R.O. style game for the Intellivision Amico or Atari VCS?" on YouTube

Cute game! I'd buy it. I never played HERO but heard a lot of good things about it. 👍

Tommy did say tho, he's not into pixel art in the first year.

Sometimes it's done really well like this game, Owlboy or Hyper Light Drifter.

Who's the studio?

Right. Pixel art would probably put the console more into the gamer crowd with the "indie" and "retro" console market when Tommy needs to clearly differentiate this as a modern family console for everyone and not just gamers.

That's probably true. Even though Sturmwind is on every console & Steam now, it's seems like a perfect "gamer" fit for Amico (aside from no exclusivity). It's also selling for a "too much" $20 (EDIT: Actually $12.99- I just checked my M$ receipt email) on Xbox.

It'll tide me over until Amico R-Type is done.

I wouldn't mind something like that on Amico.  It's the 8 & 16 bit pixel art that I feel is too overdone to death at this point (and would send the wrong message about what Amico is).  But I like this one!

Here is what Tommy said about Bobby Bombastic...in his own words....

Here's my thoughts....

1) Tommy said he like it..that's good enough for me.

2) I believe (and Tommy correct me if I'm wrong) that a H.E.R.O. remake or update was something thought about but wasn't currently in the cards.  Someone drops a spiritual successor (which I dont believe is out on anything yet) on your lap and even mentions the Amico by name and that's nothing to just brush off.  If the game is near completion why not at least see what they want for it.  Perhaps give them another 6 months to add coop and versus.  Just a thought.

3) Tommy (again correct me if I'm wrong) said he had the launch games and about 3 to 6 months worth of games already "in the works" and/or "planned out". That doesn't mean done but it does mean he's planned ahead and anything we would suggest right now would be something which would naturally come out over  6 months after launch.

4) Tommy (again correct me if I'm wrong) said (when I said Fox n Forests looked great) "wait until you see it on Amico ". Fox and Forests is far more pixilated that Bobby Bombastic IMHO.

5) The Amico's launch titles and first 6 months to a year will naturally have an overall aesthetic but things will move away from that I believe.  Not every game will have the same exact look and a few more pixelated ones after year 1 is over would actually "pop" if done right.

6) See number 1.

I'm not saying this game is perfect...in fact I'm a little worried that the last trailer was over a year ago and they dont seem to show anything new.  I dont know of any of their games (except Sigi) which have come out so that worries me a little.

@Tommy Tallarico

Could the Amico handle this with some optimization? Or would it need baked in backgrounds and asset flips?

Looks pretty good. May be a little too detailed for an Amico title when it comes to style though. (looks like a hardcore gamer game)

that's another thing what they used to call it in the 80s "cute" games need to make a comeback..i mean not kids games but lead characters that are cute like for instance the Penguin from Pengo or the Chef and characters in Burger Time..i notice when they remake classics from the 80s they always get rid of the cute lead character and replace them with some generic character that have zero charm like in Montazuma's Revenge & Boulderdash

I would settle for it to be on ps4...looks like I might have to break out my Dreamcast and buy a physical copy of this one...

This was a sega dreamcast game. I'd imagine the amico can do way beyond this.  Keep in mind that this game did not push the dreamcast to it imits. And dreamcast was a single core arm cpu (from 1998)  at 200 mhz and who knows if dev had access to it all.  16 meg ram , plus 8 meg video and 2 meg for sound.    GPU at 100 mhz

The specs atleast what's available  online  is an 8 core 1.8 ghz arm CPU ( tommy I seen a video panel where you said I think 2.3 ghz or might have been 2.7 or 8 I forget...) so I'm not sure if that was an error on your part tommy . Ot if that was a later upgrade that you guys are  not worried about posting as it's not a big deal right now

Rams at 2 GB unless they may have upgraded that to 4 or whatever who knows. I'd assume if got a cou upgrade maybe that could get one.

Dunno if the system gas a dedicated graphics chip.   That would be the only area I'm curious about. Or if the 8 core cpu is a ting as both.

Also keep in.mind a raspberry pi 4 can emulate the dreamcast  and a pi 4 has a 4 core 2.5 ghz arm CPU and 4 GB ram

Also emulating and native code are two separate beasts performance wise.

So I would assume this is nothing . .

I have the Dreamcast version. It's pretty detailed for the age of the DC processors. This is a remake called "EX", which is in 1080p, 16x9 aspect and HD rendered graphics. My screen grabs were from the Nintendo Switch version (an Nvidia ARM chip set up).

I didn't know it wasn't on PS4. Finally Xbox One gets something you don't have!

Hahaha! Too bad, so sad! Grandma live in Leningrad!😜

I think some people are underestimating the amico graphic capabilities. It cant do open world real time 3d, lets not confuse that with not being able to do world class 2d and 2.5 detail. The amico will be a 2-d beast and the detail it should be able to render will likely surprise many.

Games like these (and Gears and Halo and Forza) were why I was interested in Series X.  Then the Amico took my heart and never let go.

Tommy did say a while ago that their goal was to make games that looked like these...

Ori & The Will of the Wisps, Cuphead & 2013 Killer Instinct

I have a thought...

I know that Tommy has said there are several categories:

20% Retro Reimagined

20% Sports and Casual Sports

20% Board Games and Card Games

20% Edutainment

20% New IP

Will the Amico stick to this strictly?

I mean of the 40 games that "may" be on day one will there be exactly 4 each?

Will games going forward follow a pattern of 1 of each category and then rotate through that (so we would get a retro first and have to wait 28 to 40 days for the next one)?

I'm not worried if this is the case as I'm getting all games but it just dawned on me that it will be hard to really stick to the 20% breakdown.

If anyone can do it I know Tommy can. 😄

@Tommy Tallarico is there a repository someplace with full size 1080p images of some of the games coming out for Amico?  Would be fun to use them as desktop pictures cycling all day on my screen.  Like of Missle Command, Astrosmash, Moon Patrol,  Night Stalker, and heck.. lets go for broke... AD&D.
