Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, today is 10/10 and some time ago, I thought I would have passed it differently.  But that's okay, I am convinced that the extra time we wait will be rewarded.  Whatever happened, 10/10 will always be Amico's day.  Greetings to Tommy and all the great guys on the forum.

Too bad the Amico live stream wasn't working too well.  But at least we got the reveal for the new demo which is Breakout.  I wasn't expecting the demo to be released for PC only.  I thought it was going to be on the Amico Club app.  Anyway, it's all good.  Can't wait to try the new version.

I do hope no one was turning in today to get their first impression of the Amico.

Wish for everyone involved that went better.

As someone who has been following all along and will always be a supporter I am still exactly that!👍

The hardware & gameplay videos were great Tommy.  It was a nice update.  I like the music in the gameplay video.  Seeing all the new footage was cool.  Some highlights; Bi-Planes, Care Bears, Major League Baseball & Snafoo.  I was wondering how Snafoo would look in particular & it looks great.

There were definitely a lot of surprises in the gameplay video. I was also really happy to hear that Lock n Chase will be coming to Amico. Lots of stuff to watch today. Sorry the livestream part of it didn't go as planned. That guy Murphy...

I like seeing multiplayer skiing too and you can really see the RPG elements of Cloudy Mountain in the latest video.

Plus just thinking about it, MLB baseball, Sesame Street, Hot Wheels and Care Bears are some pretty powerful brands to be pasting on the box or featuring in an ad. The brand tie ins are really adding up.

That gameplay trailer is strong, looking good. As far as the laggy live stuff, oh well, its 2020, it just makes Tommy even more relatable, likable and human.  Its maybe the one good thing that will come from 2020, all that fake production and phoney stuff is gone by the boards, we have seen experts in all fields and the like all at home with the dogs barking, kids screaming, etc etc , its making us all relate better and realize we all are just trying to take a day at a time.

Tommy and Amico are gonna be just fine, the gameplay trailer is what really matters and it looks solid.  Im excited.

My random thoughts from the game video and some of the announcements...

Bump ’N’ Jump - Yes!! One of my most played games on the Intellivision.

Lode Runner - Yes, Yes!! I think we knew this was coming, but nice to hear it mentioned. I’m not really into remakes, but Lode Runner was one of the first games I bought on my Apple //e and remains one of my favorite games of all time. So I’ll usually buy any version that comes along and that will include the Amico version. I do hope we get a true retro version of the game at some point.

Cloudy Mountain - I really enjoyed seeing the overview map. Not a huge moment in the context of the whole video, but that’s the one point where I paused the video to linger at the screen.

MLB - Looked nice! Looking forward to see how this one develops.

Bomberman - Yeah, I know that’s not its name now, but that’s how I think of it. Probably the game my daughter and I will enjoy the most together as we’ve played it in the past.

Breakout download - Not surprising, but no Mac version. In a way, I’m almost glad. Unless you have the right controller, Breakout (and other games that used a paddle) can be a bit of a pain. This was a game my mom and I played a lot so it has a special place for me. I think I’d probably prefer to just wait until the Amico is out to play it. Hope you PC folks have a blast with it, though.

The game video in general - At first I was concerned because I’m trying to get my wife interested in the the Amico. She works in healthcare and her days are long, and sometimes the job involves telling people they don’t have long to live. That really drains you. She has no desire to come home and play “battle” games, if you know what I mean. About the first half of the video was games I don’t ever think I’ll ever get her interested in. Fortunately, the video also included things like Spades and Snafoo, so I was happy to see that. That’s probably going to be her entry point. And on the days when she’s really wiped out, maybe I’ll have to set her up with Care Bears. ;)

Just told Wifey about Burgertime and she was like cool and all that, but she said that if you all got Kool-Aid man, she would be super happy. Like happy enough she wouldn't be mad that I bought a second Amico--when I tell her I bought the second one that is...

I know there was a lot of focus on the game trailer, but I also thought the hardware video was very strong. I was really impressed on the focus for making a durable machine that would last years, if not generations. The effort to reduce as many moving parts as possible and how they use passive cooling to keep it cool and quiet. I just recently bought a cooling stand for my PS4 because that thing is so loud whenever I play any game on it. It'd be nice to have a silent console again, just like they used to be.

Perhaps the most impressive demonstration was with the lighting. I knew it had the LED lights, but I had no idea it that many. It also really showed what could be done through lighting, and making it look like a police siren was really cool to see. Overall, between the two videos, there was a lot of news and reveals that were great to see.

Yes the hardware video was impressive.  I liked that they talked about the charging of the controllers.  The guy said it takes 2 hours to fully charge and you get 4 to 6 hours battery life which is good.  Also, the cooling part was neat.  It's definitely nice to have a quiet console.  No jet engine, lol.  As for the LED lights, I was surprised by the amount of them.  I forgot how many were mentioned.

A question for @Tommy Tallarico...

I just watched the game demo video again and I paid more attention to Blank Slate this time. That’s another game I think my wife would enjoy when we have enough people over.

Typically with games like that, if it gets popular enough, the company sells more cards so you’re not just playing the same cards over and over.

I imagine Blank Slate for the Amico will come with lots of cards, but since you don’t plan on having IAPs, is there any concern that games like that could get stale after a while?

I really liked the look of a lot of those games. I like the new characters in Liar's Dice. All the games have improved a lot and are looking awesome. Great to see SNAFOO back. Looks like a blast!

I've played a lot of Blank Slate, and I don't see this as being a problem. There are so many cards that by the time you get to it a second time, you have completely different ideas of what to write down. I'm really excited for this one, alone with Night Stalker. Is it April yet?

Which I’d be totally OK with. With Amico game prices being so low, a new version would be on par or cheaper than a typical new set of physical cards.
