Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Recommended Posts

Aesir Interactive are doing Skiing.

After taking a look at their website, I found that they seemed to be a good company  !

They have experience with horse games.

Could they be the ones who will be working on Horse Racing !?

We have no news about this game. Probably not yet in development ?

What would be interesting in my opinion for horse racing would be to have a story mode that would allow us to take care of a horse. A young man or girl receives a horse as a gift.

We have to take care of the horse, train it and participate in small competitions which would allow us to win money and trophies to display in the child's room.

This could greatly attract young girls and adolescent girls. ( Some boys also obvioulsly ! )

With this money, it is possible to buy new equipment and thus unlock new training exercises.

And some Sunday, the family goes to see horse races. (Not involving our horse yet)

We can then make our bets as in the original game, and the money won will allow us to continue to improve the training of our horse.

And one day, we could participate with our horse in those championship races !!!  😀

Remember it would be for story mode.

The other game mode would simply be racing one after the other, to play  multiplayers. 😁

This reminds me: remember earlier in the thread, when you pointed out how The Pokemon Company is technically its own separate entity, when discussing Nintendo's stocks after Pokemon Go? Would this apply to gamer licensing too, like Pokemon's educational PC titles in the past? Or is that all tied up in Nintendo exclusivity?

(Gonna go ahead and assume all the mainline titles are co-copyrighted by Nintendo themselves...As well as all the spinoff titles on Nintendo systems.)

It's exclusive.  You won't be seeing Pokemon on Xbox or PS anytime soon.   :)

Which is why starting manufacturing in March/April and shipping for stores in October makes sense

Exactly!

And even our timeline is super tight!!  I was being nice when I said if everything goes right they'll be out in April.  :)

The difference of course being the "units" needed to manufacture.

Even in our "worse case scenario" our manufacturing may slide to May... and if so... it just means there will be less units available on store shelves in October.

Great news for anyone with the Founder's Edition!  (or folks who buy multiples to sell on Ebay!)   Hahhaa!

:)

The most positive thing out of the Atari VCS disaster is the entertainment, Atari's recent history has probably enough material for a movie, some kind of comedy-drama. The most negative aspect is that it can impact the perception of the Amico by the general public as "just another potentially failed retro console". But then again, Sony was also a newcomer in 1994 and they came just after the CDI, the Jaguar and the 3DO and I don't think the potential Amico buyers will ever know about the Hatari VCX.

Yeah... although the perception now is bad for us due to "newcomer" association to things like the VCS & Ouya... it will also play GREATLY into our hands when we're a big success!  It will make us look even that much better.

We succeeded where all the others failed.  Even Google!!!

Grandpa won't be seeing the VCS on a store shelf.... so we got them there.

Hi Tommy!  Just wondering....will Intellivision have in-store demonstration kiosks/displays at retail?

In any event, I can't begin to state how excited I am for your launch.  I never thought I'd see the day where there'd be same-year launches for Xbox, Playstation, Atari and intellivision.  What kind of alternate timeline did I land myself in!

Hahahhaa!  I know right!?!?  It's pretty crazy to think about.  2020 will be a year that is talked about in video game history for a long time to come I think.  :)

Yes... we will have in-store demos for sure.  It's a big part of our marketing plan/spend.  Mall tours as well.

Hmm...  I wonder how many units you will have for Christmas 2020 ! It's probably the best kept secret right now !

So now is the time for me to go with my predictions !!!!!   🥁🥁🥁  (drum roll ...  )

Intellivision Amico will sell between 500 000 and 2 millions units.  ( hard to say before marketing, but I think I am in a good spot ! lol )

So I hope you will have at least 500 000 units available for Christmas. 🤔

In 2021, Amico will sell between 10 and 20 millions units !  I know, it's huge numbers ! But as I have already said, I am a believer ! 😉

Ha!  And those are just the mild ones!

Funny thing about this video.  At this point in the video (below), that is my voice!

It's an orchestra hit and sample taken from the 1992 game Global Gladiators.  It's me saying "Awesome!"

hahaha!

That would be an amazing number for Christmas, but very highly unlikely.  Let's put it this way... Microsoft & Sony will only have around 1 million units each available in the U.S.

We gotta take the "walk before we run" attitude or else it could put the entire project in jeopardy.   Scaling properly is super crucial to our success.  Especially when we're starting off super small compared to the others.  Sony & Microsoft have thousands of employees and 25 years of infrastructure around the world with literally billions of dollars to spend and other hardware/software margins to leverage with retailers.

We are currently about 40 people in an office with a huge dream, experience and the talent to make it a reality.

Getting out a few hundred thousand machines worldwide by the end of 2020 is a HUGE victory for us.  Building lots of buzz and people wanting it badly puts us in a great position to scale the way we want.

Manufacturing too many units and not having the infrastructure to get them all sold (marketing $'s, distribution points, manufacturing pipelines, investor reactions, etc) could be the death of us.  Happens all the time with smaller companies.  Sometimes success too quickly turns into a bad thing if you aren't prepared.  I know it probably sounds crazy... but it's true.  If any of you ever watch Shark Tank... you hear the stories all the time.  And retail can be vicious and brutal at times if you're not careful.  Retailer A decides to drop the price $5 which pisses off Retailer B & C so they follow suit or want more things in order to continue carrying it or making the next big order, etc.  It's all a huge negotiation that needs to be handled with the utmost care.  That is why our super experienced video game sales team of 40+ years is a very important component to this process.

Really intricate stuff.

I'll have to write a book someday.   :)

Cool.  Nice find!

I think we had to do a press release at some point in Germany to announce the studios and projects as part of the deal with the Bavarian Government.  I think it's probably on some official government website as well.

Just wanted to give a heads up to the folks in here that we're thinking the Founder's Edition will be going on sale on Monday.  Which is why you haven't seen anything on social media, etc.

We're still gathering the content as everyday something new & cool gets put into one of the games that we want to show off.  Hahaha!

A lot of times in this thread I'm thinking/typing out loud.  The hope was for this Friday... but looking like next Monday or potentially Tuesday instead.  Definitely NOT past Tuesday as I have a trip to the Middle East on Wednesday.  Really pushing for Monday if possible.  Lots to do and set-up... making great progress, but don't want to officially announce to the public a date... and then have it slide.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

Video's coming today, tomorrow and over the weekend!  I think you'll be pleased.

25,000 units sold is a lot better than 100,000 units in the warehouse and in the channel.

But yeah... 500,000 is unfortunately out of the realm of reality.

Is there a reason why on the game console it says "Intellivision Amico", but on each controller it says only "Intellivison"?

You could have written only "Amico" if the reason was the lack of space? Unless it is really to name the console "Amico" and the controllers are not Amico!

Example when the console says "good morning" when we open it !! ?? I can already imagine answering him (her) "Good morning to you too Amico"! lol

P.S.  Tommy, when you will be ready to use my avatar there will be no problem, I will leave it to you ... but I imagine that you will take a picture from one of the special edition !! (Red or Woodgrain ") lol.

Hey Tommy, here's an idea for promotion and two ideas for soccer games:

- Don't you think you should try to appear on other Youtube channels with more views? Closer to 100,000 or 10,000 instead of 1,000. There must be some bigger Youtube channels that see the Amico with an open mind (Gamesack?).

- Will there be any soccer game where you control cars? Like Bumperball.

- What do you think about Haxball? I think its simplicity could inspire a great soccer game for the Amico.

Thanks for the update. I don't think many of us are taking the posts as absolute promises, at least until it gets close to October haha

I think LePionnier is right about much larger 2021 numbers. A million units or more moved through Christmas 2021 would really get the tech press talking and I think that is very doable with the word of mouth potential with the Amico. I suspect Amico will have relatively strong off seasonal sales (Spring/Summer) as people get the machines they wanted but couldn’t during Christmas and as more people find it through friends, Youtubers, bloggers and human interest pieces “A Channel 5 Special Report: Seniors get moving again... playing video games”.

That is my prediction - the world really “discovers” the Amico in 2021.

I think he is waiting after E3. Everything should be revealed.

That way people will be even more excited because of things that are "Game Changer" like he said.

And there will be fewer "Haters" because there will be many more concrete things, and many players will have tried the games.

We're all excited about Intellivision being a share of the overall market and designing games and hardware again.

But let's not set expectations to unachievable places right off the bat.  Michael Pachter discussed sales predictions for Holiday 2020 for the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5... 1 to 1.5 million units over November and December, up to 2 million at the very most.

Intellivision is going to want to sell enough units to be a smashing success.  But not stretch too thin early in production and cause retailers to balk at large reorders and increased manufacturing.  A steady, consistent manufacturing run can save the company tens of millions in production costs in the long run, and make so much more in met demand.  But an inconsistent manufacturing run where supply noticeably exceeds demand can sink them within the year.  There is no rebound from that.

The smartest move here is to, again, approach this like Nintendo does with its products.  Undershoot your production.  Amico needs to be a talked about, hard-to-find product with some shortage of availability.  You don't want thirty Amico consoles sitting on shelves in December and January.  You want 5.  Maybe 8.  You want people to see it's a product and has shelf-space, but you want to see sales and see that there aren't infinite amounts.  A product shortage not meeting demand, for a short period, will be great for Intellivision.  Think of the Wii.  Think of the Switch.  Everybody was talking about the fun, innovative must-have system, and they were hard to find that first launch and first holiday season.  Even the Wii had shortages its second year.  Same with the NES Classic.  Undershooting just drove demand, drove that social media base craving and talking about and sharing, and sales rocketed even after supply more-or-less met demand.

Realistically, if Microsoft is playing it safe this holiday with around 750,000-1,000,000 consoles, and Sony reads its market right and produces around 1.5 million, with plans to move to about 1m and 1.5m per month, respectively (12m - 18m per year), then Intellivision really should be looking closer to 100,000-250,000 units globally that first holiday season.  Closer to 100,000-125,000 may be more prudent, but their summer/fall pre-orders (not next week's FE) will tell retailers a lot more about how many they think they can move in early 2021 if it's high demand.  Retailers will place their orders this spring for holiday, but E3 and summer marketing are going to help gauge how early they can ramp up production and how much they can plan for the later quarters of 2021.  And 150,000 units over the holiday is still going to be the surprise success story of the season (even if this is a conservative number, I think it could do much better.. could also just need more hands-on and time to incubate, maybe it's even a little aggressive.. we just don't know).  But Intellivision emerging out of nowhere to post 20-25% of the expected sales of Microsoft in their big release year?  That's more than a foot in the door, that's a statement of intent.

We don't want them to overshoot the mark.  Too much of an undershoot, leaving demand unmet, leaves too much money on the table.  No pressure on Intellivision, but the fate of the universe is on them marketing right and getting those numbers right and getting those games to stand out and pull people.  No pressure, just don't disappoint us.

Don't.  Disappoint.  😶

It's a great question.

The word Amico just looked bad there.  Just didn't look right because the letters are tall & fat... so in order for it to fit... it had to be very small and didn't read well.
