Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Could be he finds all the things other people love about it not that thrilling. If that is the case, he won’t be talked into it, although he keeps pushing Tommy to try for some reason. Maybe he wants to be really, really, really sure before he cancels his pre-order. However, the arguments started out as a mix of weird (why can’t I play real cornhole, assuming of course it’s a nice summer day and the people who live there own one) and normal, but seems to be becoming more and more off the cuff and, “okay, but besides all that, why would someone buy this” and “okay, but assume they don’t want the games to be all PG and they don’t mind rooting around through an e-shop and watching YouTube reviews to see what 17 cent games are great and enjoy using modern controllers. “. ;-)

EDIT: I guess this is actually in direct response to Mr. Trust in the other thread. I’m using my small phone which makes where I am a bit less obvious than a monitor. No matter, though. The basic idea applies to both.

Not strictly Amico related but Netflix is about to launch their new He-Man cartoon:

https://www.engadget.com/netflix-masters-of-the-universe-first-look-action-figures-150027951.html

This was after their reboot of She-ra a few years ago: https://www.engadget.com/2019-05-11-netflix-she-ra-season-3-geena-davis.html

This got me reminiscing about all of the original Intellivision games with non gaming tie-ins, like Master of the Universe, Major League Baseball, Advanced D&D, Tron, Scooby Doo, etc. All of those brands are still alive and kicking today. Of course, the Amico is continuing the Intellivision brand cross licensing tradition with Harlem Globe Trotters, ACL, Major League Baseball, Hot Wheels, Evel Knievel, Care Bears & Sesame Street. Can't wait to see what additional brands the Amico can bring to the Intellivision stable & add to it's long history.

There's still controversy about that.

Some people still say you didn't post it and, as you can see, Tommy didn't remember it.

Of course, you can choose to reply to this message posting a screenshot of your message with the video, or you can choose to ignore my message: in both cases, it will only be further proof that you didn't post it (for some reason).

The fact that you replied to Tommy saying that you posted it is also a concern, as well as the "heart" reactions received from people who believe you posted it, who are obviously lying because you have bribed them.

At this point, the only thing you can do to make me a believer is creating a time machine and making a Youtube video of yourself posting the interview. You see, I really want to believe that you posted it, but I want you to give me a reason. Why would I believe you? How can I be sure you're not secretly trafficking adrenochrome? Please create a compelling report specifying what does differentiate you from the rest of Atari Age users giving detailed examples of your posting milestones, or else.

Let's all judge this unfinished product shall we?!?!?!

image.thumb.png.4d71e04a704be2beb9157297a8dd6ac7.png

Looks kinda silly now.. Nothing real exciting to see for most people.. And totally unfinished. The die hard fan of the above product gets 5 kinds of excited because of the potential they are seeing.  The people who don't like this kind of product were "meh".  Or said that it's not "cinema".  Go see my 3 hour yawn-fest instead. There are no green-screens there. You don't need to see this kind of film. Mine kind of films are better.  The films you like are bad.

My point is: We never really saw the above image and videos until AFTER the finished product came out.

Right now, we've been seeing a whole lot of this sort of stuff on the Amico. Games and hardware at this stage of production. Some a little later into it. Some, not quite ready for the prite-time. Not interesting to most people.  Seeing things at this stage, the haters say "Look how crappy it looks or plays".  To others,a whole lot of fun to watch and talk about. We currently are at over 1200  pages and going strong on this forum. Back to my thoughts: I didn't expect to see the above screen when I walked into a theater. I expected a finished product.  They had to go through this process to get it to the theaters.  If I'd seen the above image BEFORE it came out, I was pretty sure I would like it based on the 21 previous films. Not all great. Some  could, arguably, be called bad. But due to the track record of the people behind the scenes. I expected to have fun. And I did!

When I see the people Tommy has surrounded himself with. I see a ton of veterans. Great track records in releasing products that I like. Most of which I have put my hard-earned cash into. I believe that I can expect the same thing when it arrives on my doorstep..  A finished product that is fun to use!   Hopefully before 10/10 as I have one on pre-order.   :)

He thinks he is too clever for people to see that. I like his latest attempt to infer since Intellivision Entertainment won’t send out a video on lag, it must be because they would be lying, which would subject them to lawsuits.

Reality is that they are building a console, and defending in-development efficiencies has no large benefit for them, and takes resources away from actually finishing. The webs he lays are not clever, and don’t constitute a final logical result.

In the game within the game he feels he has already won with as many posts this has attracted, but IMO his game is weak and actually lessens the detractors credibility more.

How do we know that he has truly pre-ordered an Amico.  He could just be saying that so those of us on here will take his lag concerns seriously.  There have been enough people on here that started blowing smoke and hating on the Amico that it's pretty obvious when a new person comes on for the same reason.  I'm beginning to think this is another one of those (fill in the blank) kind of people.  No matter what kind of proof is given, they are never satisfied, hence the only reason they are here is to try and stir the pot... 🙄

There are a few posters on Reddit that have 'finally got fed up and cancelled their order' so many times that they must have at least 100 individual orders. Must be incredibly tiring to cancel them one by one like that. ;)

I don’t do reddit except when it comes up in google searches for questions, but, there was the guy trying to sell his 2600 Extra Terrestrials for $15,000. When everyone called B.S. on him he posted a pic of a pile of money claiming someone had bought it for that. Of course, then, the same guy posted it on eBay for $90,000 BIN. You probably know the one. So, it’s not unheard of someone would pose as a fan who pre-ordered one. In fact, everyone who comes in just curious and then quickly becomes more aggressive seems to have pre-ordered one, so, they can’t be trolling (wup, there it is).

It sure would be nice to the Q and A thread was about Questions and Answers, rather than a few people throwing out personal insults,  presumably hoping others will respond in kind so they have an excuse to remove them from the thread/forum.  That won't work for me, sorry.

I also like how, instead of the Q&A thread being Qs and As, some people use it as a chance post long posts with images and videos that have nothing to do with the subject (and, heck, even their opening line states as much, so they're well aware that they're trying to derail a Q&A discussion) so they can push the entire topic out of the recent comments.

I'm here to talk Amico, players.  Please check your personal dramas at the door.  Thanks.

Don't worry you will always be *the* Intellivision Master to me. Without you I would have missed a *lot* of Amico videos and live streams. Have said it many times, but a huge toast for the one and only @Intellivision Master! 🥂

Tommy: A follow-up question, since the lag may or may not be an issue that may or may not have already been addressed.

As of this moment, is everything on-target for having Founders Edition units in players' hands prior to the 10/10/2021 projected in-store date?  I am well aware that everything from gas, to chicken, to pool chemicals are suffering from supply chain issues and I would wholly understand if the units are not going to ship on time.

If things are currently on schedule to get units into hands prior to the 10/10/2021 date, but there's a chance of things being delayed again, what do you feel is the "moment of truth" for knowing for sure when the unit will be delayed?  I've seen talk about lines being reserved, production and shipping time frames, etc.  Conservatively, when would you feel comfortable saying "If we make it to this date with no further issues, we will 100% be in stores on 10/10/2021." (obviously, something crazy like blocking the Suez Canal not withstanding).

It’s been two months the last two times. Likely the same if it were to happen again. So, beginning of August.

Yes and no.

It is absolutely okay for the system to have issues at this point.  Perfectly okay and understandable.

Does this issue exist?  That is all I would like to see proof of.  Not compensated testimonials.  I could give you a dozen scientologists who would swear to your face that Xenu is real.  I just want to see proof of it myself before I change my mind.

If Intellivision Entertainment said "Yes, there are some lag issues we're still working out.", then that would be understandable.  But that's not what is being said.  So, for you to say "It's pointless to ask about issues on an unfinished product" is frankly disingenuous and not conducive to the conversation at all.  The question is less about if there is lag and more about if there are issues (frankly, a pretty petty and small issue) that Intellivision Entertainment are denying exists for virtually no reason.  Because if they're willing to bend the truth about something this petty, what else are they lying to us about.

Hope that helps you (and some others) understand the concern,  Thanks.

Hi Tommy.  Thanks for joining the discussion.

First, let me clarify that I'm simply not interested in the petty grievances others may have against you or what you're doing or what issues you may have with them.  So let's move past that drama and stick to the amico, deal?

To answer your question, a simple yes or no won't do.

The problem is, many of the people who have commented on this are individuals who are invested, are receiving compensation, and/or are not professionals at reviewing hardware/software.  Like the guy who runs the official amico sub on reddit.  In very clear violation of reddit rules, he has received perks and boasted about getting them from Intellivision Entertainment.  Reddit rules specifically forbid sub moderators from receiving any kind of compensation.  You can see why I might be sus of someone like that.  And youtubers who get rewarded with free hats, tee, and Q&As with you.  Have you been willing to go on a youtube broadvast/interview with someone who has been openly critical of the amico?  Or only those who support what you're doing?

The IGN article is the first time someone wholly independent of compensation has come out with a hands-on of the system.  They showed a video of the screen being unresponsive and sluggish.  You first said this was due to the system not being up to date - which is a perfectly reasonable explanation.  You then said the lag doesn't exist.  Which means you're saying the video is lying to my eyes.

Is there perceivable lag/response issues?  If so, that's fine.  You're at least five months from launch.  Do these issues not exist at all?  Even better!  So.... can we see a video that is comparable to what IGN showed, but shows these specific issues have been addressed?

Thanks.

As I understand the IGN article and follow up was not about lag with the game itself but with the touch screen on the controller. Also from what Intellivision has said the unit this person played on was one of the very early units with resistive instead of capacitive screens and an older version of firmware.

The proof that this is no longer an issue is that people who have actually played a newer unit and newer version of the controller which includes capacitive touch screens have all said there is no perceivable lag.  I don’t know about you but for me that information is enough to put to rest any concerns about lag

It did, in fact, have a capacitive screen, but outdated firmware. The unit was in the Intellivision office when the IGN guy stopped by. It wasn’t sent over to the IGN guy.

@Tommy Tallarico

Intellivision and Leo have a history.  Keith was on with Leo back in the TechTV days.  Gee, maybe even the ZDTV days.  I'll have to look this up.

But you should get in touch and talk Amico, maybe a Hands on Tech segment.

https://twit.tv/shows/the-tech-guy/episodes/1795?autostart=false   About 15 mins in, they talk playing games with your kids.   However, this is remote.  But.. Along the lines..

Not a good showing for these two...  Wow!

Leo Laporte is great and one of my best friends Victor Lucas was the producer on his show for awhile.

Will definitely reach out.
