Intellivision Amico - Tommy Tallarico introduction + Q&A

Recommended Posts

Too much focus on negativity and nitpicking lately.  I want to get back to the games.  I love 2 types of games especially.  I love shooters, which I see the Amico will have aplenty such as Astrosmash, Moon Patrol, Asteroids etc.  The other type of game I love is being an Indiana Jones type treasure seeking adventurer, climbing up and down vines or ladders, jumping over dangers, fighting beasties etc.  Love 'em.  From Uncharted and Tomb Raider all the way back to Pitfall and Montezuma's Revenge.  Never grown tired of them.  I haven't seen any examples of this type of game for the Amico though.  I was wondering what games in that vein are in the works for the Amico.

I am all for these adventure with pits, vines & gators types of games too. I know Tommy is trying his best to get a Pitfall license for just this type of game but Activation isn't budging. That is probably why it hasn't been talked about much. I am sure we could get a "Colorado Phil's Mayan Adventure" but Tommy wants to do Pitfall if at all possible.

I think there was a NES version.

No, the first three games were on PC Engine though, with the same amount of buttons. But I never managed to do anything in them. :(

By the way my nickname is from Fire Pro Wrestling. ;)

It's one of my favorite games, but it's far too complex for the Amico in my opinion.

Edit: That being said, Masato Masuda, the late creator of the Fire Pro Series, also created Pro Wrestling on the NES. You were maybe referring to that game.

They may not get Pitfall, but they do have the rights to Tropical Trouble. A bit of expansion on the play, get rid of the creeping screen and make it a larger world adventure without having to rescue some bimbo from the brute, but steal his sailboat to get off the island.. Cause he deserves it!

Edit: There is no adventurer or archeologist that ever existed that was named "Phil".😳

That’s what I said. Some hyper-alarmist dude pushes the chameleon/ataribox panic button, the rumor is going to take on its own life in the blogosphere. Thing is, he said he didn’t want people to risk losing $100, but him and most of the others will probably waste that much on stuff they’ll use 0-2 times, like the Flashback Blast.

Also, they are taking the alarmist dudes misinformation that he wants $300 up front when it is only $100. So, good healthy discussion bojay, more misinformation spread, but I’m sure you enjoy the attention.

I feel like I was part of this trouble, so...I'm really sorry guys :_(

Hope Tommy and Co. don't have to deal with that "info" for too long.

You know Im hoping sooner or later these passive aggressive and negative undertones post's made by some individuals here will hopefully come to an end or these individuals get locked out of this thread like some before them. We all can read into what they are really trying to accomplish here(there not fooling anyone) .. There actions and post's ,Reminds me of another individual earlier in this thread that finally got themselves banned. Its like anyone that has an addiction sooner or latter it will consume you and something will be said or done that will end it.. I'm just going to watch their shit show , then have a few beers in celebration when the door get shut...  Pages of this crap from the same few.  With them wanting the last word but fueling for more with that last word..

Wow is all I can say..

Now maybe if they had some dragon, drink and cranked some tunes(Motley Crue of coarse ;) )  , They would appreciate what is happening here. Two years of watching this great /new venture(Amico) come to reality and  given inside information and asking for feedback as it progresses to full release from the CEO of the Company that's rare for sure..   I personally cant wait for the FE edtion. Plus it will be a bonus to have it before it's official release..

Blarneo for the win as usual - forgot about Tropical Trouble (that game never really clicked with me, however your re-imagining sounds much better). And yeah, no-way an archeologist could be named Phil ;)

What started out as “can’t believe what i’m hearing” and support of the console probably went on too long, so, I’ll try to keep my ranting in check better to draw less attention to the blogosphere.

I didn't see IMBerzerk started another thread on Neil. I just saw the news on my phone. We should go to the other thread.

Yes.  I dedicated a thread beacuse everyone knows anything 80s, Intellivision, geeky, video games and Rush go hand-in-hand.

Sucks.

Yeah. Sorry I wasn't clear. I knew the same people worked on one for the NES (not called FP), but forgot which one.

I don't get all the complaints about the Founder's Edition. If you think it's too risky, just wait for the regular launch. Let's pretend Tommy is running the biggest scam of all time and some people pre-order and lose their money. Why should anyone care except them?

I for one am definitely interested in the FE. I'm a huge supporter of everything the console stands for. I give huge props to Tommy for staying involved with this forum. I think it's hilarious how much hate he gets for offering a simple pre-order for die hard fans. He has created a vision for a console that is actually innovative and different for which I am excited. The Amico could sell 150 million units and some would still be here saying we somehow got scammed on a pre-order.

They could do a fire pro game that's less complex as well as have many differences. Fire pro advance was good and was far simpler.   But a hybrid sim arcade style game visuals lime fire pro maybe  take a sim arcade hybrid from Sega's giant gram wrestling arcade games

I haven't found it necessary to ban anyone new from this thread ... yet.  Contrary to what some people insist on saying about us, we're not power-tripping dictators, and we aren't out to "kiss up to," "protect," or "make excuses for" anyone.  It's preferable to allow diversions like the whole "Founders Edition" argument to die down on their own once everyone has had their say.  I think that's finally happened, but those few individuals you refer to (and they know who they are) are on notice: if they insist on perpetuating the argument further, and if they continue to post snarky or passive-aggressive remarks, I'm going to have to start kicking them out.

A video interview with Tommy at CES 2020 by the Tech Up team. You get a really good view of the new controller and light blue wrist strap near the end of the video. Plus he mentions game sharing between machines via the controllers.

I know the value of slogans to sell products, so I get that he's telling new people, but... as someone who's seen most of the YouTube interviews over the last year+, "... is Italian for Friend" and the SAFE slogan is like a broken record for me now. 🤣

And 5 months before E3 and then most of the campaign will start !

I think you should turn everything off and stop listening before you go crazy ! 😅   lol lol

If you only use the visual style of Fire Pro, maybe, but I think an arcade version of Fire Pro is simply not Fire Pro. I know a few games like Natsume Championship Wrestling on the SNES that offer similar gameplay and try to simplify it, but it actually breaks it. 😕 To me, the whole point of Fire Pro is the automatic counter system that kind of works like an RPG. In NCS, they tried to make it less forgiving, so powerful attacks are less countered, which makes the game too easy and almost pointless. 😑

I agree that Fire Pro Advance was easier to play, mainly because timing was a little more forgiving than in other versions. But a timing based system does not fit the philosophy of Amico in my opinion. That being said, I'd love a different kind of wrestling game, on the Amico or anywhere actually. At the time of the Wii, I was hoping they would make a Fire Pro with Miis, which kind of happen with the Xbox 360 game but it didn't work that much for me because 360 avatars were not as good as Miis at caricaturing people - avatars almost all look the same, like flawless dolls. Japanese wrestling legends are actually really easy to create with Miis. :)

Forget about the Founders Edition, I have a better idea for hardcore fans: It's 9 months until 10/10/2020... so babies "created" today will born around the official Amico launch date!

On a more serious note, I think I probably found the best Youtube list ever created: Every Video Game Console Ranked From WORST To BEST, a 1h45min video that appeared only a few days ago. The original Intellivision appears the 29th. The actual order has many flaws (PS3 is 3rd, better than PS1 and PS4; Ouya is the 28th; the 360 is 2nd, better than the PS1; the Vectrex is placed far worse than many terrible machines that are not even "consoles" or fun...). They used too many external factors to rate consoles. Instead of considering only the number and quality of the games and how the controllers work, they also include economical factors and "how long the consoles were supported". Still, it's a great video to learn about incredibly rare consoles.

That game was horrible on 360
